Yale hopes climate change conference is groundbreaking

Associated Press - April 13, 2008 2:24 PM ET

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - As many as ten governors - including Gov. Sebelius of Kansas - are gathering this week in Connecticut to discuss ways to combat global warming.

The governors and leading experts on global warming will be at Yale University Thursday and Friday. They will review state programs to combat global climate change and develop a strategy for future action.

Dan Esty, a Yale environmental law professor, says the conference is part of a series of initiatives designed to pressure officials to take action.

The gathering will also note the centennial of President Theodore Roosevelt's 1908 Conference of Governors, which launched the modern conservation movement.
