Robert Rodriguez
SACRAMENTO, CA - A man who fell into the Sacramento River last Thursday wasn't reported missing until Monday. Sacramento homicide investigators are looking into the disappearance of Robert Alexander Rodriguez.
Sgt. Matt Young with the Sacramento Police Department said Rodriguez, 20, was with a friend walking around the I Street Bridge at about 7:30 p.m., April 10, when the friend said Rodriguez fell into the river. The friend told police he spent hours looking along the river for him for hours, but Rodriguez did not resurface.
It is unclear why Rodriguez wasn't reported missing until five days later.
His family told investigators they had not seen him since Thursday.
Detectives have interviewed known involved parties and sent search boats to look for Rodriguez without avail.
The missing man was last seen wearing black "Dickie" pants, black shoes and a black sweater.
Anyone with information about Rodriguez' disappearance or whereabouts is asked to call Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous.

Why the heck didn't the "friend" go for help and/or call the police? Something wrong here.

Sacramento detectives are investigating the disappearance of a 20-year-old man who was last seen on the I Street bridge and may have fallen into the river.
As with missing person investigations that are somewhat complex, homicide investigators are looking into the disappearance of Robert Alexander Rodriguez, according to a press release from the Sacramento Police Department.
Rodriguez, a Sacramento resident, was last seen by a friend at 7:30 p.m. April 10. According to the friend, he and Rodriguez were walking on the I Street bridge, which connects downtown Sacramento and West Sacramento.
The friend told police he saw Rodriguez fall into the river and not resurface. The friend searched the river for hours, according to police.
Rodriguez was not reported missing until Monday. Rodriguez's family reports they had not heard from him since April 10, which is unusual.
Searches by boat proved unsuccessful. Rodriguez was last seen wearing black "Dickie" brand pants, black shoes and a black sweater.
Police request that anyone with information call (916) 443-HELP.

Man Missing For A Week After Falling Off Bridge
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Search crews are looking for a man who's been missing for nearly a week. His friend told police he fell of the I Street Bridge, but he didn't say anything until four days later.
There's still hope that Robert Rodriguez is still alive, even after police say a friend saw him fall from the I Street Bridge into the Sacramento River Thursday evening. The investigation is still a missing person's case, even though homicide detectives are now in charge.
"There are some peculiar circumstances, and that's why our Homicide Division has taken over the investigation," said Sgt. Matt Young, from the Sacramento Police Department.
Those peculiar and even strange circumstances include the fact the friend did not report the missing 20-year old until Monday, four days after Rodriguez allegedly fell into the river.
Police won't go into detail about how the friend is explaining that, but do note that the friend said he searched up and down the river for hours that night.
Rodriguez went to Wyotech in West Sacramento, studying to be an auto mechanic. The school's president tells me they contacted Robert's parents in southern California when he didn't show up for class on Friday and Monday.
Robert was last seen wearing black Dickie pants, black shoes and a black sweater. Right now, police say they have not yet identified any suspects even after questioning several people, including the friend who was with Robert the night he fell.

Missing Man's Body Found in River
SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento police homicide detectives have identified a man's body pulled from the river Thursday as that of Robert Alexander Rodriguez. He fell into the river April 10.
According to police, Rodriguez, 20, was with a friend walking around the I Street Bridge about 7:30 p.m. last Thursday when he fell into the water and didn't surface. Police learned of Rodriguez's disappearance on Monday when his family in Los Angeles couldn't contact him.
Marine units from the Sacramento Police Department and the Yolo County Sheriff Department were searching for Rodriguez along the river again Thursday afternoon when they found the missing man's body floating approximately 50 to 100 yards south of the I Street Bridge.
The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy and make a definitive identification, said police Sgt. Matt Young.

Update: Arrest made in connection with man's body found in river
Sacramento police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the death of his friend who he said fell into the Sacramento River, authorities said.
Richard David Froemke was arrested Wednesday evening on a felony charge of nonvehicular involuntary manslaughter, according to online jail records. He was being held in lieu of a $30,000 bail.
Froemke had told police that he saw his friend, Robert Alexander Rodriguez, 20, left, of Sacramento, fall into the river while they were walking on the I Street bridge about 7:30 p.m. April 10.
Froemke told police he searched the river for hours, but his friend did not resurface. Froemke did not report Rodriguez missing until four days later.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a65e5c8b970b-pi (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a65e5c8b970b-pi) Los Angeles police issued a murder warrant Thursday for the arrest of a teenage suspect in the killing of Robert Rodriguez (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/homicidereport/2009/10/van-nuys-robert-rodriguez-14.html), a 14-year-old Latino boy.
LAPD Det. Marc Matinez said Ignacio Araujo, a 16-year old Latino, is accused of killing Rodriguez in front of an apartment building in the 15400 block of Vanowen Street in Van Nuys on Oct. 23.
Rodriguez was shot about 3:50 p.m. when he was allegedly approached by Araujo. According to Martinez, Araujo asked Rodriguez where he was from, a common question used to determine gang identity, then shot him once in the head.
Martinez said Rodriguez was not a documented gang member and had no prior criminal history.
Araujo, who police say is a known member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang who goes by the nickname "Tiny," is being charged as an adult with Rodriguez's murder and is still at large. He is 5-foot-2 and weighs 120 pounds, according to a police flier.
In addition to Rodriguez's slaying, Araujo has been charged with the attempted murder of two other males and faces an additional count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, according to the complaint filed by Los Angeles County prosecutors.
Martinez said there was no dispute that led up to the shootings, but he would not discuss what specifically happened that afternoon.
Anyone with information about Araujo's whereabouts is asked to call LAPD Van Nuys detectives at (818) 374-0040.
