MUNISING — Thomas David Richardson sat under blue stage lights Monday in the day room of the Alger County Jail, drinking a glass of water after his jailor gave him a pain pill.


Richardson, before being sent to state prison Monday, was interviewed for an hour for the television program “Dateline NBC.”

The interview by correspondent Josh Mankiewicz will be edited and packaged with interviews from family members, attorneys, investigators, court testimony and other materials into a one-hour nationally-televised program tentatively scheduled to air in July.


The “Dateline NBC” broadcast will tell the story of the death of Juanita Richardson and her husband’s trial and conviction for her murder.

MUNISING — For 10 minutes in Alger County Circuit Court Monday morning, time seemed to stand still for the sentencing hearing of Thomas David Richardson.


Though Richardson’s sentence of life in prison without parole had already been set by law, the intensity in the packed courtroom was not diminished.


Sheriff’s deputies guarded the two exit doors to the hallway. Reporters and camera crews were crowded into the jury box. And a large clock hanging on the wall marked a minute or so before 11 a.m.
