Uncle charged with felony child abuse
April 14, 2008 - 2:15PM
A 4-year-old boy airlifted on Friday to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in serious condition died Sunday morning, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
The boy's uncle, Chance Eric Wright, 18, of Sands Court, has been in the Onslow County Jail under a $200,000 bond since Friday on felony child abuse charges after the boy was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries.
Deputy Chief Paul Spring said the Jacksonville Police Department is awaiting autopsy results but anticipates filing charges against Wright in the boy's death.
Wright said he was horseplaying with the child when the boy was injured, Dave Kaderbek, a detective with the Police Department, said Friday.
When police and emergency workers arrived, the child was having trouble breathing and had to be revived, Spring said Friday
