The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a missing woman in the Bayview and Bayfield area, and in the adjacent waters of Lake Superior.

Nancy L. Jerabeck, 56, was last seen at her home in the town of Bayview Monday morning.

The sheriff’s department was called Monday evening after her family was unable to fine her.

Foul play is not suspected, but the matter is under investigation and the sheriff’s department is looking at all possible scenarios, according to a new release issued Wednesday.

The initial search was conducted by the Bayfield and Washburn fire departments, Coast Guard and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources personnel. The search has now been supplemented by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department Rescue Squad from Minnesota with remotely operated vehicles, aircraft from Ashland and dogs from Sunshine Service Dogs Inc.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department at (715) 373-6120.

She was born on June 18, 1951, in Milwaukee. She was the daughter of Richard “Dick” and Betty Herrmann. She grew up in West Allis and graduated from Nathan Hale High School.

She married Mark Jerabek on Oct. 6, 1973. They moved to Superior where they lived for 30 wonderful years. During this time she raised her beloved sons Matthew and Seth.

She was a woman of many talents. Nancy started out working in Milwaukee as a dental assistant and dental lab technician. She was an accomplished artist, most well known for her beautiful stained glass and stepping stones. She also worked for the Superior School District as a Library Assistant at Four Corners, Nelson Dewey, Lake Superior, and Bryant elementary schools, East Junior High School, and Superior High School.

Mark and Nancy dedicated the last 14 years of their lives to building their dream home in Bayfield. They moved into their home in June 2006.

Nancy was taken by the beauty of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. She, Mark, and sons spent 20 years boating on Lake Superior. Nearly every weekend they would travel from Superior to Bayfield to explore the lake and islands. She cherished her time with family and friends. Above all, the love of family and friends were paramount.
