LOMPOC

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department is still searching for a Lompoc man reported missing Tuesday.

Search teams are scouring the hills near the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 101.

That is where California Highway Patrol officers found 38-year-old Kenneth Sullivan's car.

Sullivan lives at the Kailani Village Apartment in Lompoc, but no one has seen or heard from him since April 15.

"He was last seen, as far as we know, by his sister who had taken him to run some errands and then dropped him off at his apartment complex," said Sergeant Danny Rios of the Lompoc Police Department.

Sullivan lives alone, and neighbors say they would often see him walking through the complex in the middle of the night.

His sister, who did not want to appear on camera, says he loves life and loves to sing, but he suffers from liver problems, diabetes and paranoia. She says he has always had mental health issues, but lately, his behavior was getting worse.

He may have stopped taking his medications, and just days before his disappearance he talked about leaving to pray in the mountains.

Lompoc police say Sullivan's car is a 1991 Gold Mercedes Benz. California Highway Patrol found it sitting on the side of the highway April 16. The keys were still inside.

Search teams have been on the lookout since Tuesday.

"Ground crew - so vehicles, people on foot and absolutely the helicopter is available if needed," Rios said.

His sister says shoes and a shirt were also found near the car, but police were not able to confirm that.

Sullivan has checked himself in to mental health treatment centers before, and his family hopes that's what happened here. His family is working closely with detectives and plans on posting flyers in the next few days.

Anyone with information should contact the Lompoc Police Department at (805) 736-2341

Body believed to be that of missing Lompoc man
Santa Maria Times
A body believed to be that of missing Lompoc man Kenneth Sullivan, 38, was found Wednesday on a ranch near the Highway 1 and Highway 101 interchange.

The body was found near a creek along Highway 101, not far from where Sullivan's car was found abandoned last month.

Sullivan's family was notified of the discovery by the Lompoc Police Department.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Office took custody of the body to make a positive identification. The condition of the body would delay the identification, according to Lompoc police Sgt. Nate Flint.

"The body had been out in the elements for a while," said Flint.

Sullivan was last seen alive by his sister on April 15, according to Lompoc police. His 1991 Mercedes was found the next day on Highway 1, one mile west of Highway 101, with the keys still inside.

The Santa Barbara County

Sheriff's Department searched

for Sullivan for three days, using dogs and helicopters to comb the rough terrain, but found no

indication that he was still in

the area.

Sullivan had been on medication for mental health problems, according to family members.

His sister said that he had talked recently about going into the mountains "to preach," said Sgt. Danny Rios, spokesman for the Lompoc Police Department.

The California Highway Patrol located a body Wednesday on ranch property near Highways 1 and 101, where the car of a missing Lompoc man was found April 21.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Office is trying to make a positive identification. It is expected that the identification process will take time because of the condition of the body, according to Lompoc police.

Kenneth Sullivan, 38, was reported missing April 22 by his family. A sheriff’s office search-and-rescue team combed the area, but did not find him initially.

While the body hasn’t been positively identified as Sullivan’s, Lompoc police said his family has been notified of the discovery.
