ONA, W. Va (WSAZ)--Sheriff Deputies need you help locating a missing student.

The Cabell County Sheriff’s Department says 16-year old Gerarlene Nicole Shepard is a student at Cabell Midland High School.

Deputies say she was last seen getting off the bus Wednesday morning.

Investigators believe she may be in the company of Mark Anthony Marcum. They say Marcum is 33-year old, and may be headed to Williamson, WV or Pike County, Ky.

Marcum drives a cherry red, late 90’s or early 2000 model Dodge Dakota Sport.

Nicole is described as a white female, 5'4, 260 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information should the Cabell County Sheriff or 911.

Cabell Midland High School student Gerarlene Nicole Shepard rode the bus to school Wednesday, but she left early in the day and hasn't been seen since.

The 16-year-old's parents both told the Cabell County Sheriff's Office that there was no indication there was a problem nor were they are an arguments preceeding the disappearnce.

Sergeant R. B. Chafin and Cabell County Schools Communications Director Jedd Flowers both confirmed she went to school and left.

Her family has received no contact from her, but police believe she could be with Mark Anthony Marcum. Chafin said they are deeming the 33-year-old as a person of interest and just want to talk to him.

Marcum could be in the Williamson, W. Va. are or Pike County, Ky. He is driving a red, late 90's or early 2000 model Dodge Dakota Sport.

Shepard is described as a white female, 5'4, 260 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes.

A Cabell Midland Student Is Missing

Gerarlene Nicole Shepard, a student at Cabell Midland High School, went to school Wednesday morning, and never returned home. The sophomore never showed up for her first class on Wednesday morning, and her family wants answers. Her mother has filed a missing persons report after the teenager did not return home after school. The Cabell Sheriff's Department says it is still unclear if Shepard was abducted, or if she ranaway. They say they are already looking for one person of interest, Mark Marcum, a man who used to date Shephard's mother. Authorities believe Marcum is driving either a red-four-door Dodge Dakota or a recently purchased 1980's model blue Camaro. If you have any information as to where Marcum or Shepard could be, you are asked to call the Cabell Sheriff's Department at 304-743-1594.

This is Nicole's Aunt. Mark is not Nicole's father. He shared the same household for a number of years. His attraction to Nicole has consistantly been questionable. We have been trying to get him to stay away from Nicole. He is not a stable person and his perception of his responsibility and rights to the kids is impaired. He has absolutely no business having Nicole with him. Even if she wanted to be with him - He STILL has no business keeping her with him. Nicole did not go with him willingly - he had a warrent for his arrest for taking her (briefly) about two weeks ago - when he threatened to kill her mother if she wouldn't go with him. He hasn't been seen since then; aside from the report of when he demanded that she get in the car with him. Nicole would call us to tell us she was alright if that was the case. All this aside-whatever the case may be-we want Nicole safely home. We do not care about anything else. We are even willing to hear what in God's name is Mark thinking???

If he does; we think it will be because Nicole tries to physically fight her way away from him - or it will be because he thinks it's the 'end of the road' - and it will probably be a murder/suicide. He wrecked his car a little while back trying to kill himself. He went to the mothers house a couple weeks ago and had a knife to her throat telling her that if Nicole didn't go with him then he was going to kill her. Nicole loves her mother. We cannot understand why an Amber Alert wasn't issued. There was a kid that heard him screaming at her "to get in the f-ing car" over and over. He has guns - I don't know if he used them or show them to her her when he took her away. I am rambling and we don't know what else we can do. We are tired - and worried - and losing hope.

Sounds like she would certainly qualify for an Amber Alert, Cheryl.

I have asked our Administrators to look at this thread and see if there's any way they can help in your search.

In the meantime, call TV stations, newspapers, any one you can think of, to keep the story out in the public, so that someone may see them and bring Nichole home safely.

This is Nicole's mother, Nicole did not make it to school , the 4-5 different stories that were told by the school to the police has made this case start out very bad. Yes I do have more pictures of Mark Marcum and there's a lot more to this than just a simple missing child. This man and I dated for about ten years at first he was ok but towards the end he started punching holes in the wall, and breaking things, and then when he desided to beat me up, I left him and moved almost two hours away, this was over two years ago. After a while I fet sorry for Mark and started letting him visit the kids since he had been in their life for 10 years and Nicole saw him as her real dad. On 3/8/08 he tried to kill himself in front of Nicole and two of her friend but drinking a liter of Jack daniels and eating 20 xanaxs,and then drove his car into a land brace made of railroad ties. Then I went down to Migo county got the kids and checked on mark for three days in a role until he came out of his comma. Then after he woke I told him that he would not be ble to see the kids anymore due to his mental stability. Mark wanted to say goodbye to the kids without it being a bad scene so he came up and visited with them and then he said that he would leave us alone. Then for the next two weeks we got 20-30 phone calls a day from him , I finally put my foot down and our conversation turned ugly. This was on the night of the 7th on the 8th he drove almost two hours to come to my house. He parked his truck a mile away wanted for my boyfriend to leave for work, and walked to my house dressed in all black wearing thick industrial gloves that were padded. He disconnected my telephone lines from the outside and then tried to pry open every door at my house and then kicked open the front door. Nicole's bedroom door was locked but mine wasn't. I was woke up to Mark standing over my bed shaking violently with what I thought was a gun in his pocket. He held us kidnapped for over three hours. Mark said that Nicole was going to leave in my car and take him back to his truck, I told him no you walked in you can walk out, he got very mad and threatened to stab me with a screw driver in my skull and leave me to die, Nicole was getting so upset that she started vomiting so she ran to the bath room. when she came out I repeated to mark that she wasn't going with him because he had already threatened to kill me and I wanted Nicole to know what his mindset was. Mark also stated that he had been stalking her out for the past week from accross her school with binoculars. He yelled at Nicole your mom has no say so inthis you either get the keys and take me to my car or i'll trash the house until I find the keys. Nicole left woth Mark and returned within a few minutes. Nicole and I filed an oder of protection on Mark and two warrants were filled on him for one for B&E and domestic violence because he had hurt me during this hostage situation.
Nicole and I begged the school, the Board of Education, and the all involved to please let her stay at home until he is picked up and that I would get her home work for her. All doors were slammed in my faced and i was threatened that if I didn't send her to school that I would be prosecuted for trunancy. Nicole had a doctors appointment the next day so she didn't attend school, and she begged the secretary at the doctors office to give her another day off due to her injury. They gave it to her but she only wanted it due to being scared to go to school. This was on Thursday. Sunday night she begged me not to let her go back to school so I tried again with the board and the school and got the same responce. Nicole went to school on Tuesday and Mark was fired on Monday, bought a .45 mm gun and a older model 88 blue camero was last seen by his family tuesday night and on Wednesday morning he was ssen driving around the area for about ten minutes and when the bus pulled up one of the grade school kids got on the bus and said that he saw Nicole get into the blue car, another older kid said that he was standing closer to the car and said that Mark yelled "get into the car now "as nicole was getting ready to get on the bus Nicole said "no I can't I'll miss my school bus " Mark said again get in the car now" Ncole stepped towards the car and then got in. The older boy postively Identified Mark as the driver and said that he was very angry. He couldn't see in the car to see if he had the gun out or not. I had no idea that she was gone until the time she was supposed to get back home from school. When she didn't show up I went to the school and had one of the vice Principles look up to see if she was picked by anyone. She had not and that she definally was at school all day naccording to the absence list. by 10:00 pm that night Nicole hadn't even been to home room or any of her classes and the review of the videos shows that she didn't get off the bus at school. The main Principle first tells the police that he saw her get off the bus and that one of the vice prin. had even spoke to her, then they told the police that they had a video of her coming in through the front door, then it changed to the side door and the she walked in for a minute and then went back out the side door , then it was changed to there is no video at all. Because of all of these mistakes the local police is taking as a run-away case. I know my daughter she is terrified of him and she has her prom coming up , several things schhduled on her calendar, and had plans of going to a candle light vidiual of her three good friends that recently died in a car crash. She also left her cell phone, laptop, money, drivers lis., and several other key things that if she was running off she would have taken with her. This man is violent, and dangerous and is armed. The FBI are tring to get involved. I dont know who to give some more pictures to and I don't know what else to do. I don't feel like we' re getting anywhere. please any help is needed. Thanks Rhonda

Hi Rhonda, welcome. Thank you for updating us on how Nichole got into Marks possession.. This is a scary situation. You know Mark pretty well, where do you think he would have taken Nicole? Does he have enough money to stay in hotels and eat for this period of time? Do you think he may be with family hiding out?

I pray the FBI will get involved. You need all the help you can get.

Keep a journal. Every time you are told something write it down, date, who said it, time, etc. Make a note of all calls you make also.

Contact all local media sources. Their picture needs to be on TV in hoping someone will recognize them.

Welcome Rhonda. Mark is disturbed for sure. I'm appalled with the school board's lack of caring and with the Principal's of that school ... When you contacted them, they should've checked with the bus driver and others who ride that bus to see if she was on it. The fact that they said she was at school all day when she wasn't, is atrocious!!

Issuing an Amber Alert is based on the discretion of local Authorities and Shame on them for making the decision not to.....she is a 16 year old girl who was taken by a 33 year old man - The Center for Missing Exploited Children classify her as ENDANGERED and missing - He bought a gun two days before he did this. He bought a second car a week prior - He broke into their house two weeks prior - he attempted to commit suicide four weeks prior :doh:......I do not know what else they need???
