Brian M. Toth has not been seen since Sunday and was reported missing to police on Tuesday after his mother discovered a journal containing, "alarming," entries, said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman. His mother, also a Lakehurst resident, later found a letter on the family's computer.

"It was basically a good-bye letter, we're concerned about his well-being,"
Heinzman said. "At this point, everybody just wants to know he's OK."

The journal contains entries that demonstrate suicidal thoughts and depression,
Heinzman said.

Toth did not take his cell phone with him when he left his Brown Avenue home and his whereabouts have thus far been untraceable since he used a debit car to purchase $39 of gasoline at a Route 9 Wawa in Toms River.

He is believed to be driving a red 1995 Chevy Baretta with New Jersey license plate RKJ 98X.

Anyone with information about Toth's location is asked to call officer Matthew Kline of the Lakehurst Police Department at (732) 657-7811.

UPDATE: Missing Lakehurst man returns home

LAKEHURST — A Brown Avenue man who was last seen six days ago returned home today, police said.

Brian M. Toth, 28, was reported missing by his mother on Tuesday after she found passages in her sons journal that raised concerns he might be suicidal and depressed. He returned home today after police publicized that he had been reported missing, said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman.

"He's in good shape. He said he drove as far as Colorado and decided to come home," Heinzman said.

Toth was later transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a crisis evaluation.

Police said earlier today Toth left behind a cell phone and a "good-bye" note on
the family's computer before mysteriously leaving the area. Police learned he used a debit card to purchase gasoline at a Wawa on Route 9 in Toms River several days ago, but had been unable to track him since.
