Police seek man in slaying of woman
Tuesday, May 06, 2008
BY BARBARA MILLER
Of Our Lebanon County Bureau
State police investigating the stabbing death of a Lebanon County woman are seeking a Reading man they want to interview.
Kathy Ann Leibig, 45, of the first block of South Mountain Road, Millcreek Twp., died of multiple stab wounds, Berks County Coroner Dennis Hess said after an autopsy Monday.
Authorities want to interview Glen Lyons, 42, who reportedly worked with Leibig, District Attorney John Adams said.
Leibig's body was found Sunday afternoon in her SUV in a parking lot at Wernersville State Hospital in Berks County.
Leibig was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m., but Hess said it was not clear how long she had been dead.
State police said Leibig's husband, Robert, had reported her missing, telling them she had not been seen since Thursday morning.
A family friend spotted Leibig's silver-gray 2005 Chevrolet Equinox about 2 p.m. and notified the family, Hess said.
He said Leibig was stabbed in the vehicle, but it was not clear if she was killed at the parking lot or elsewhere.
The Reading Eagle newspaper reported Lyons worked with Leibig at Linette Quality Chocolates in Heidelberg Twp., Berks County. State police said he is wanted on a parole violation.
Leibig's neighbor Charlotte Bear said people were searching the neighborhood Friday for Leibig, who frequently walked along the road.
"I'm eager to find out if it was somebody she knew or just a random thing," Bear said.
She described Leibig as "very pretty, very bubbly," but said she knew little about her.

Guth said police have received calls regarding Lyons.
"We have a lot of things we are looking into, but not things we would be willing to release," he said.
Lyons is wanted on a state parole violation, but a Department of Probation and Parole spokesman said he could not release details.
Lyons was released on parole from the state prison at Mahanoy in March 2003 after serving the minimum on an 11- to 22-year sentence for assault and four counts of robbery in Philadelphia, a parole department official said.
He was sent back to state prison in June 2006 on technical parole violations that included drug use and failing to report to a parole officer, and was released in August, records state.

Man sought for questioning // Co-worker hasn't been seen since woman's body was found
A co-worker of a slain Lebanon County woman hasn't been seen since the woman disappeared on Thursday, authorities said.
Glenn Lyons, 42, formerly of Reading, is being sought for questioning in the stabbing death of Kathy Ann Leibig, said Sgt. Raymond Guth of the state police barracks at Reading.
Leibig, 45, of Millcreek Twp., was found dead Sunday in her sport utility vehicle in a Wernersville State Hospital parking lot. She died of a stab wound to her carotid artery, the Berks County coroner's office said.
The two worked at Linette Quality Chocolates in Heidelberg Twp., Berks County, police said. Leibig, an Elco High School graduate, had worked there for five years.
Lyons has not been labeled a suspect, but is considered possibly armed and dangerous, Guth said.
Leibig was reported missing by her husband, Robert, on Thursday, and was last seen about 7 a.m.
Her vehicle was spotted at the hospital Sunday by a family friend. Her husband, accompanied by police, identified Leibig that day.
In addition to her husband, Leibig is survived by her parents, Maynard and Doris Hernley Hartranft of Newmanstown; two brothers and a sister; and a stepson and two step-grandchildren.
