A dismembered body that was dumped in garbage bags and burned along a rural Troup County road last week was that of a black woman whose head, hands and feet were removed and are still missing, investigators say.

The bags were discovered along Stitcher Road about 7:40 a.m. Thursday by an area resident on the way to work, said Lt. Rick Massie of the Troup County Sheriff's Department.

"We've had a few promising calls, but I don't know what they have produced," he said. "We've had a bunch of missing persons calls, but they may not have fit the description. Some were missing a lot longer than the time this occurred.

"We're really focusing on the Atlanta metro area. We found out the head was not in the bag we didn't breach. It was not with the body."

Investigators think the bags were dumped along Stitcher Road after dark Dec. 5 and before sunup Thursday. Evidence shows an attempt was made to burn the bags using Domino's Pizza coupons. Remains of the coupons contain the names of three Atlanta metro cities -- Chamblee, Doraville and Hiram -- leading authorities to suspect the person may have been slain in the Atlanta area and the body parts dumped in Troup County, Massie said.

The Georgia Crime Lab is still doing a preliminary investigation of the body. Massie said the lab still hasn't indicated an age range for the victim.

Identifying the victim could be difficult without fingerprints or teeth to compare with dental records.

The bags were discovered about 95 feet from the intersection of Whitfield and Stitcher roads, less than a mile from Callaway High School.

Since the body parts were probably dumped late at night, Massie said it might be difficult finding someone who observed it.

Local Crime Stoppers has approved a $1,000 reward in the case, he said.

Anyone with information about a missing woman from the area or who saw something that might be linked to the case should call the Troup County Sheriff's Department at 706-883-1746 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.

investigators in LaGrange wondering whether Hilton may be involved in yet another killing, though officials are quick to dismiss any known connection. Still, there are "obvious coincidences," said Capt. Mike Nixon, chief investigator for the Troup County Sheriff's Department.

On Dec. 6, a passing motorist discovered the body of a woman -- still unidentified -- missing hands, feet and head. The mutilated body was in five black plastic garbage bags along Stitcher Road in LaGrange, which is west of Macon near the Alabama line.

Although an attempt was made to burn the bags, some evidence was recovered, including a Domino's Pizza coupon from Chamblee. The address on Hilton's arrest warrant for Emerson's kidnapping is on Clairmont Road in Chamblee. Nixon said investigators believe the woman was killed in metro Atlanta.

"We're looking into Hilton. We're looking into everything," he said.

Is he a suspect or not?

Troup County authorities said they do not, at this time, consider Hilton a suspect in the dismemberment of an unidentified woman found in December outside of LaGrange. The woman's mutilated body was in five black plastic bags left along Stitcher Road near the Alabama line. Earlier this week, Capt. Mike Nixon said there were "obvious coincidences" to be inspected. But Friday, Troup County District Attorney Pete Skandalakis said, "At this point they are not looking at him."

Lawmen: Body here not linked to drifter

Troup County sheriff’s investigators don’t believe that the suspected murderer of a hiker in north Georgia killed and dismembered the woman whose body was found on Stitcher Road Dec. 6.

“We read (the report of Meredith Emerson’s death), and we looked at it. There were just no similarities at all,” said chief investigator Charles Nixon.

I can't think of the case name, however, this case reminds me a lot of the one from NYC where the young mans dismembered body parts were placed in 5 trashbags in the NYC subway station.
I guess the reason I thought of this is because you don't hear everyday of a murder involving trashbags of burned body parts being found. It seems unusual and rare.

The first thing I would check is to see if this woman's ATM or credit cards were used after her death.

Dang, I love the state of GA but y'all got some freaky stuff going on these days!

I was wondering if they were related also.

I've been thinking about the Domino's coupons. For someone to try and start a fire they must have had quite a lot. If so this person either works at Domino's or has contact with someone that does. I say this because I have two sons that manage a Domino's store. I asked both of them why someone would have alot of coupons. Their response was that they worked at one or knew someone that did. So I asked what kind of coupons they would have. They told me the coupons would possibly be "door hangers". When business is slow employees go out and hang coupons on doors. Therefore having several coupons to start a fire.:0009: Just thinking.

Good thoughts. The only Dominos coupons I've ever seen are the mailer that I get each week. I thought it was strange that the person would save mailers for Dominos. :waitasec: lol Your explanation makes much more sense.

I have had this in my 'unidentified' folder for ages. This does sound more like the Deana Null killer than Gary Hilton's work. I wonder if they have checked into Charles Ray Hicks (Ms. Null's killer) past.
I suppose the killer of this poor soul could be anyone, but if I were in charge of the investigation, I sure would look into Hicks.

If I remember correctly, either shortly before or after this young woman's torso was found, there was a man that was found in a similar fashion not far from this area. I will look into that and see if I see any connection there.

Coincidences' could connect killings in Clayton, Bibb counties

By Daniel Silliman

dsilliman@news-daily.com

Homicide detectives in Clayton and Bibb counties are comparing notes, connections and uncanny coincidences in the murders of two women.

Melissa Peters Rushing, a 36-year-old woman, was found off a logging road in Bibb County, early in the morning on Aug. 7, beaten to death and set on fire. The case sounded familiar to Clayton County Police Department detectives, reminding them of Kennoa Janelle Fitzpatrick, a 19-year-old woman found at the end of a dead-end street in College Park in 2002, beaten to death and set on fire.

Capt. Richard Gandee called the Bibb County Sheriff's office, after hearing about their recent murder, and the two departments are now cooperating, comparing case files, said Lt. George Meadows, spokesman for the Bibb County Sheriff's office.

"We're not sure how far the connection goes," Meadows said. "Right now, it's pretty coincidental."

Coincidences include:

• Both deaths were caused by blunt-force trauma.

• Both bodies were set on fire, after the women were killed, a tactic delaying identification.

• Both women were black, unemployed and lived in Macon.

• Both women were with one particular man at the time they were last seen alive.

Allegedly, the man drove with Fitzpatrick to Atlanta, and returned to Macon alone. Fitzpatrick was last seen at the Greenbriar Mall, and "left the area with a black male individual," according to a missing person report filed in Macon. Allegedly, the Macon man also was with Rushing when she was at a Wal-Mart the night before her body was found on fire.

Neither agency has charged the Macon man, and the possible connections are, at the this point, just being considered.

Clayton County detectives are saying the connections could be significant, according to department spokeswoman, Sonja Sanchez. Police think the connections could be a break in a case that was basically "cold," for five years.

It wasn't until 2007 that police found Fitzpatrick's name, connecting her with a missing person's report and matching her DNA to her mother's.

According to The (Macon) Telegraph, Rushing's body was drenched in accelerant. Witnesses, driving down the logging road, thought they were reporting a brush fire. The 36-year-old woman was identified by her three tattoos.

Meadows downplayed the possibility of a serial killer, saying the Bibb County detectives were following other leads as well, and would consider "any tip that comes in."

Clayton County police have looked at the possibility a serial killer was responsible for Fitzpatrick's death before. She is one of four young women murdered and set on fire in Clayton County, between 2002 and 2007.

When a 17-year-old girl was killed and set on fire near Blalock Lake in June 2007, detectives sent the set of case files to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Behavior Science Unit for review. Police officials said they didn't think a serial killer theory could really be supported, but there were enough similarities and unanswered questions to check.

The FBI didn't find anything substantial connecting the four cases.

Fitzpatrick's death was the first one of that type in Clayton County, and had the fewest leads. After five years, the victim was still a "Jane Doe."

If the "coincidences" in the murders of both Macon women are actual connections, detectives hope they can close the 19-year-old's homicide.
