20-Year Sentence For Molestor Who Hired Hitman

A man accused of abducting and molesting a Texas boy, who was only 14-years-old at the time, pleaded no contest to charges of solicitation to commit murder. Bobby Minnis, of Fort Lauderdale, tried to have his teenage victim killed in hopes of preventing a trial for the sexual abuse charges.
Minnis faced life in prison if he had been convicted on attempted murder charges. As it stands now, Minnis faces at least 20 years in prison for the sexual abuse charges and another 20 years for the solicitation to commit murder charge.
Bobby Minnis was originally arrested in 2005 for driving to Texas and bringing the boy back to Broward County after meeting each other in an Internet chat room. Police say Minnis molested the boy at least 10 times before being caught in Fort Lauderdale.
Minnis cooked up the murder for hire scheme while in jail awaiting battery charges. He asked an inmate to give him a hitman's name, but the inmate told authorities instead. When Minnis arranged to meet the hitman, it turned out to be a Fort Lauderdale police detective.
The detective taped two conversations with Minnis, who gave the detective information about the boy including, his name, his home address, and even the route the boy took to a nearby mall. Minnis had offered to pay between $10,000 and $12,000 to the detective.
Minnis still faces federal charges for transporting the boy across state lines.
