NEW YORK -- A pair of New York detectives believes there is a nationwide group of serial killers targeting young, popular, athletic young men; an Ohio case is included.

Channel 3 News is learning more about this story, but it seems private investigators Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte may have an Ohio University student's decades old death included in their research.

The New York men believe the killers leave a smiley face form of graffiti as their "calling card." The two retired detectives have used their own money to investigate some 90 cases.
They believe 40 cases are linked to these 'smiley face killers.' Out of cash, the men are urging the FBI to now get involved in the case.

One of the deaths Gannon and Duarte investigated is now ruled a homicide. Chris Jenkins' death had been ruled accidental after he was found drowned in 2003.

Minneapolis police now admit Jenkins, a University of Minnesota student, had been abducted in a van and tortured before being drowned in the Mississippi River.

Each case involves young college men who are both athletic and popular. Most had been drinking the night of their disappearance.

This case about Mario Williams may not be related yet there are questions about his so-called accidental drowning that need to be answered. Disappeared when separated from the group at a concert, found drowned, cell phone picture of him tied up. Hope they investigate further. Mario's thread is here.
