Police are putting out a public call for help to find this man, 59-year-old Johnny Lee Piper. He was reported missing this afternoon from the downtown area. Police say he suffers from dementia and wandered away. He's only lived in the area for about two weeks.

He's described as an African-American male with brown eyes and black hair. He's about 5'9", 150 lbs., and has a grey beard and mustache.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.

Police search for man missing from downtown Austin

Austin police sent out an alert Wednesday in their search for a man who disappeared in downtown Austin.

Police say Johnny Lee Piper, 59, was reported missing Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. He moved to the Austin area two weeks ago, and police say he suffers from dementia and can become disoriented.

Police say he also has not taken his medications for three days.

Piper is described as black, 5'9" tall and weighing 150 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and a gray beard and mustache. He has a tattoo of an eagle or a snake on his right shoulder and is missing front top and front lower teeth.

If you see Piper, call 9-1-1, and if you have any information about his whereabouts call 477-3588.

Police ask for help in locating missing man


AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) - The Austin Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a man who was last seen downtown on Tuesday afternoon and suffers from dementia.

According to the Austin Police Department, Johnny Lee Piper, 59, was reported missing around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Piper, who moved to the area from Arizona about two weeks ago, has been off his medication for about three days.

Piper is described as a black male with brown eyes and black hair. He has a grey beard and mustached. He is 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, is missing his top front and bottom front teeth and has either an eagle or snake tattoo on his right shoulder.
Piper was last seen wearing a black and purple plaid shirt, blue jeans and brownish Jodan tennis shoes. Police said they are especially concerned because Piper suffers from dementia and often becomes disoriented when off his medication.

Anyone who has seen Piper is asked to call 911 or the Austin Police Department 477-3588.

Austin police this morning said they have found 59-year-old Johnny Lee Piper, a man who went missing from the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Piper, who had been off his medication for three days, might have become disoriented when he went missing, police said.

Police said he will be reunited with his family today.
