FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is searching for a 31-year-old man who has been missing since he left his north Forsyth County home on the morning of May 2.

Michael Brian Benson left his home on Country Walk Court around 8 a.m. on Friday, according to Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton.

Benson left his house in a 2000 black Toyota Tundra truck that he was test-driving. After leaving his home, Benson spoke to several people by phone and was scheduled to arrive at a job site in Cherokee County later that morning. Benson never arrived, Paxton said.

Benson's fiancee reported him missing to Forsyth County authorities on Saturday morning, May 3. On Saturday afternoon, the truck Benson had been driving was found in a remote area off of Hog Farm Circle in Cherokee County.

Areas surrounding Hog Farm Circle in Cherokee County have been searched using dogs, but no further trace of Benson has been found, officials said.

Paxton said investigators believe Benson’s disappearance is suspicious and may involve foul play.

Anyone who may have any information regarding the Benson’s disappearance should contact the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-781-2200 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 770-888-7308, where your call may remain confidential.

Missing Cumming man's body found in woods
May 29, 2008 | 02:17 PM

CHEROKEE COUNTY — The mysterious case of a Cumming man who went missing May 2 has only gotten stranger after his body was found May 15 in the woods of the Avery Estates area of Cherokee County.

Capt. Ron Hunton, a spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, said the body of Michael B. Benson, 31, of Cumming was found in a wooded area off Hog Farm Circle, about half a mile from where the 2000 black Toyota Tundra truck that he was test-driving was found May 3. At the time, Benson's clothes and wallet were found in the truck.

However, an initial autopsy of the body indicates, "no obvious wounds." Another autopsy is being conducted by an anthropologist who will look for deeper causes of death, Hunton said.

While the case was initially deemed a homicide, Hunton said there is no "concrete evidence" to suggest that.

"Right now the cause of death is undetermined," said Hunton. "I would term it suspicious, but nothing obvious."

Hunton said Benson's body was identified the next day during an initial autopsy by some "distinctive tattoos." He said the body was somewhat decomposed after two weeks in the woods, so a photo identification was not possible.

The owner of the truck, who was the last man seen with Benson, has been questioned by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Hunton said he's been cooperative.

"There is no reason to suggest he's been involved," he said.

Cherokee County deputies have canvassed the homes near where Benson's body was found, and none of the residents there saw anything suspicious.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said Benson was last seen as he left his home on Country Walk Court in the Tatum Woods subdivision around 8 a.m. After leaving his home, Benson spoke by phone to several people, including his father and employees, and was scheduled to arrive at a job site in Cherokee County later that morning. Benson never arrived, Sheriff Paxton said.

Benson's fiancee reported him missing to Forsyth County authorities the next morning.
