The Duggar's are having #18! You would think she would have worn out her baby making capabilities at least 8-10 babies ago! :faintTHUD:

I've seen so much about them on TV, and it looks like she's so busy having babies that all the work to be done is by the kids. Hubby is in government or something, yet everybody donates everything to them. I think they just want to be in the record books or something.

JMO, of course.

You may be right, but I would find another way to be in the record books.

I agree that the kids do the work. Especially, the older kids.

Perhaps they just like kids?

Are they on the dole? If not, it is their business. A single mother with multiple children, by multiple men, is a far more important matter for discussion.

I wonder if she uses cloth diapers?

I absolutely love this family! I have seen so many negative comments about them other places and it makes me angry. I say it is absolutely no one's business how large of a family they decide to have. They provide for their children with no aid from the government and have managed to raise nicer kids than some families who have just two or three. The Duggar children are happy, well spoken, respectful, loving, intelligent and unspoiled! Kudos to the parents and congratulations on baby #18! They are truly amazing people!

Although I am sure they are grateful for "donations" from people, what I have seen on the programs is that they work hard and budget their money wisely. "By used and save the difference" is one of their favorite sayings and boy is that a wise lesson to learn! I personally don't see anything wrong with kids doing chores - it builds character and responsibility - something that many kids today could benefit from. I bet Mrs. Duggar would have something to say about the statement that the kids do all the work - I certainly don't see it that way.

Childbirth takes a toll on a woman's body. Sometimes the toll it takes is not seen until the women are in their 40's and 50's. In plain language, eventually the woman's body wears out and the time she could have enjoying 5 or 6 kids are cut short in the long run by having a football team! He and she might just want to stop and think a minute about her health in the long run.

I think its wonderful they love kids. Even she has stated in the past several of the births have been difficult.

As for kids helping, thats fine. However, kids need to be kids. Childhood is very short. Kids should be expected to help their parents. But each additional child they have, the parents time is taken away from one of the other kids. Parents and kids need quality time with each other. As it is, most parents don't spend too much time with their kids in smaller families.

And yes, there are those who run off and leave the kids and mama, and then there are those women and men who are irresponsible about using any birth control, rip off the state and abuse the kids. The latter situations are often referred to as "if you breed them, you need to take care of them and feed them. Those are stories for another day and another thread.

As for government assistance not being in the picture, I commend them! They are smart with their spending habits which is more then many people in this country.

IMHO, JMHO

I've had three children. The youngest one is 10 years younger than the oldest and 7 years from my second child. Anyway, when I was pregnant with my youngest child my ob/gyn told me that it takes 5 years for a womans body to recover from the birth of a child. Everytime I hear of a woman having children close together in age, I think of what he told me.
I've seen the TV programs on the Duggar's and think they're a rather sweet family. We could write Mr. Duggar in for President of the U.S. He probably knows how to get us out of this recession.

I am sure that the Duggar's appreciate everyone's concern about her health. However, these are not dumb people and I am sure they are smart enough to make decisions regarding her health. IMO, procreation is no one's business but the mom and the dad. If a family decides to have no children, one or two children, or 18 - the only people that need to decide that are the parents. Likewise, decisions on how to raise their children - from education to chore assignments, that's strictly mom and dad's business as long as they aren't breaking the law. The Duggar children do not strike me as unhappy and they are more well behaved and loving than many children I see from smaller families. I say Mr. and Mrs. Duggar are doing something right! I certainly couldn't manage such a large family myself but I wish more families in this country were raising such well rounded children.

As always, JMHO.
