This Exonerated case is a little different than most we have on the board. This man served about a month in jail not prison. But, I thought is was still a case that should be on the board. It is a long article so to read the rest hit the link at the bottom.
PANAMA CITY
As he was being taken to jail last month for a crime he did not commit, Lonnie Louis Bacon II asked his accuser a question.
“Have you ever made a mistake?” Bacon recalled asking Saturday.
The Panama City police investigator responded by calling Bacon an arrogant, conniving deceiver, Bacon said. He told him he was sure Bacon, 39, had robbed a CVS pharmacy and promised to send Bacon to prison for so long he would come out in a “pine box,” Bacon added.
“It scared the living (expletive) out of me,” Bacon said.
But Bacon was innocent.
He was released Friday after spending 24 days in jail for the April 14 robbery of a CVS pharmacy on Cove Boulevard. Another man, Mark William Moore, 51, of Wewahitchka, told investigators last week he was responsible for three local armed robberies, including the CVS holdup. Investigators described Moore’s confession as “absolute,” saying he provided details only the robber would know and gave them the location of the gun he allegedly used in the crimes.
Panama City Police Department officials said Friday they are working to ensure Bacon’s record is expunged of any connection to the robbery. However, they declined Saturday to talk further about the case and would not release the name of the investigator.
Investigation
Bacon, an auto mechanic, came to Panama City in February. Shortly after the CVS robbery, as he was walking home from his job, he was approached by a Panama City police officer. The officer believed Bacon was “acting suspicious,” investigators said later.
