Family, police seek help finding missing Idaho City man

The Boise County Sheriff's Office and Idaho City Police need the public’s help finding a man last seen three days after Christmas.
It was Steve Kalogerakos' mother and sister from Chicago who reported him missing after they hadn't heard from him in a week.
Steve’s mother and sister say they were in daily contact with each other, so not hearing from him for this long raises some concerns.
The Boise County Sheriff's Office says Kalogerakos was last seen on December 28th by his roommate in Idaho City - the same day his roommate kicked him out of their trailer.
“Because he no longer is making any contact with his family, which is his support group and financial backing, we're concerned as to where his whereabouts is," said Captain Dale Rogers, Boise County Sheriff's Office.
Steve’s sister and mother flew into Boise on Friday.
They have since been passing out flyers and doing what they can to find their brother and son.
Steve’s family says the last time they talked he mentioned he was quarreling with his girlfriend and his roommate.
"He said something's going on and I’m going to confront them, and I believe it was a lover's quarrel and something happened to him, that's exactly what I believe. But I have no proof of that, and that's what we're trying to get done with the police department up in Idaho city," said Maria Kalogerakos, Steve’s sister.
Authorities say his car and his belongings were left behind.
Steve is 42 years old, 5 foot 11, 180 pounds - with dark brown hair.
His family says he has a Greek nose and lips.
Authorities have unconfirmed information that he was last seen in Boise.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Idaho City Police or the Boise County Sheriff's Office at 208-392-4411.

Officials look to resume search for missing man
Story Created: May 12, 2008 at 5:00 PM MDT
By Jerry Manter
IDAHO CITY - Officials in Boise County plan to resume searching for a man who's been missing since Christmas.
County officials haven't been able to search for Steve Kalogerakos because of the snow. Now that it's melting, authorities hope the clearing ground could help the search.
They have no idea where he might be and there's been no indication of foul play.
Kalogerakos is described as 6 feet tall, husky build, 200-225 pounds, and brownish gray hair.

Sister of missing man doesn't want to give up hope

IDAHO CITY - Steve Kalo-Gerakos has been missing for five months and his sister is not giving up in her search for answers.
Christmas was the last time Maria Kalogerakos heard from her brother, Steve. He was supposed to call her back and never did.
That's why she was in Idaho City for the second time on Tuesday.
She says her brother had moved back to the area just three months before he disappeared. Now that the snow is melting, Maria got on a plane with a pilot specializing in search and rescue.
http://media.2news.tv/images/0805013_Missing_Man2.jpg
They circled the skies looking for any sign of Steve. While she hopes he's alive she says she's also realistic - but it's the not knowing that hurts the most.
"I don't know what to believe at this point," Kalogerakos said. "You have so much running through your head, there are so many unanswered questions."
The Boise Sheriff's office says Steve apparently got in a fight with his girlfriend and the man he was living with on the night of his disappearance. He was told to move out.
That was the last time anyone saw him. His car and belongings were all left at the house.
His sister is offering a reward of $10,000 hoping someone somewhere knows something.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Boise County Sheriff's office at 392-4411.

Reward offered for info on missing man
09:43 AM PDT on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
By SCOTT EVANS / KTVB
IDAHO CITY, Idaho - The family of a missing Idaho City man is now offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who can provide information to his whereabouts.
Steve Kalogerakos, 42, was last seen around Christmas in Idaho City.
Now that the temperatures are warming up and the snow is melting in the surrounding areas, family members participated in an air search looking for any clues to jump start this investigation.
Nearly five months after his sister Maria last spoke to her brother, she and her husband flew to Boise from Chicago - not giving up hope of finding him.
"It's really hard on anybody. You can't sleep, you can't eat, you can't do anything without wondering what happened," said Maria Kalogerakos.
Maria Kalogerakos and her husband are taking the search of her brother Steve into their own hands.
"Hopefully we will find something because it's been too long, and our hope is just demolishing," said Maria Kalogerakos.
Maria says she is receiving all the help she needs from law enforcement, but they are facing their own challenges in the case.
Idaho City Police Chief Scott Turner says at this point he would be surprised if Steve were still alive.
So finding out how he may have died is at the front of everyone's mind.
"After doing interviews and talking with friends and family we have no indication to lead us one way or the other. We're kind of walking the fence so to speak until we receive another tip, or he's actually located," said Turner.
Turner says this last winter's snowfall made searching for Steve by foot nearly impossible.
Now that most of the snow has melted, or is melting, searching is easier but still difficult.
"This county is 2,200 miles of trees and mountains, and where do you start? It would take us a lifetime to search every square foot of it," said Turner.
One of the reasons they conducted the search by air is because of the thickness of the foliage. Turner tells us that if they were to conduct the search by ground they could be standing next to a body and not even know it.
"I'm determined to find him," said Maria Kalogerakos.
But today's air search brought them no closer to finding Steve Kalogerakos.
"We'll keep searching, keep posting. Hopefully somebody will come up with something, maybe some type of lead for us," said Maria Kalogerakos.
Boise County conducts several searches for missing people each year, but this case is different than most of those because searchers believe Steve Kalogerakos may be dead – thus making the search efforts much more challenging.

I think common sense tells you that if he left that night on his own volition, he would have taken his car. Something is fishy about that story!! IMO
I hope they find him. And then the truth can be found. I am thrilled LE is working with the family to find him.
For Steve and his family. :1222423:
