Huntsville, Ala.- Investigators with the Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit need assistance to identify a body found March 21, 2008 in north Huntsville.

Spokesman Wendell Johnson said they are treating the case as a homicide investigation. The unknown victim had been shot.

The decomposed remains of a male were found in a ditch located off Meridian Street, north of Winchester Road. The victim was wearing a size 34 blue jeans, brand name 30 degrees below.

He had a green polo style shirt with a pocket brand name Puritan. The victim was also wearing size 10 white leather Polo brand athletic shoes.

According to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, the male is believed to be in his 30's and of Hispanic and Caucasian descent.

The victim is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and the current weight at the time was 122 pounds.

Johnson said the case is being treated as a homicide and the victim has not been identified.

HUNTSVILLE, AL. -- Forensic investigators have identified the remains of a man found killed near a construction site on Meridian Street nearly a year ago, and police are asking the public for help finding the killer.

On March 21, 2008, human remains were found in a ditch near a construction site at 8020 Meridian Street. The Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit responded and initiated a death investigation. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences later determined the death to be a Homicide. After an extensive investigation the remains were identified to be those of Christopher Havis.

Havis worked in Huntsville and lived in the Harvest community and was originally from Guntersville, police said. At the time of his death he was 32 years old, police said.

Anyone who may have seen Christopher Havis in November of 2007 or anyone with information concerning the homicide should contact Investigator Michael Leftwich with the Huntsville Police Departments Major Crimes Unit at 256-213-4534.
