Six-year-old believed to be abducted by biological father

The following news release was issued by the Chandler Police Dept.:

CHANDLER - Chandler Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a child taken by his biological father. On May 20, 2008 at approximately 11:30 A.M., Daniel Bara checked his son, Zion Bara, out of a Chandler School District Elementary School.

When Daniel failed to return the child, the mother of the child was notified and subsequently police were called. Daniel has not seen Zion for the past 3 years and was last known to live in Lubbock, Texas, with Zion’s maternal aunt, identified as Sara Vasquez. Police believe Sara Vasquez was at the school with Daniel when Zion was checked out and maybe still with Daniel and Zion.

Daniel is known to drive a red colored 1991 2 door Acura, bearing Texas plate V83WKY. Daniel is described as a 36 year-old Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, black hair, brown eyes, no front teeth with tattoos of his last name on the fingers of one of his hands and right shoulder.

He also has a tattoo of a Grim Reaper on his left chest. Sara Vasquez is described as a 26-year old Hispanic Female, 5 feet tall, 150 pounds, black hair and brown eyes. Zion Bara is a 6-year old Hispanic male, 3 feet 6 inches tall, approximately 60 pounds last seen wearing a red colored polo shirt and dark blue shorts.

Daniel does not have any custodial rights to Zion and faces criminal charges of custodial interference. Daniel may still be in the area or traveling to Lubbock Texas. The Chandler Police Department is encouraging anyone with information about this case to call 480-782-4130

A 6-year-old boy was abducted from his school by his father on Tuesday morning, according to Chandler Police.

Daniel Bara, 36, checked his son, Zion, out of a Chandler elementary school about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and failed to return the child to school, prompting administrators to notify Zion's mother.

The child had not seen his father for 3 years, police said.

Police believe Daniel Bara could have been at the school with his sister, Sara Vasquez, who both live in Lubbock, Texas, and that the woman could still be with the pair.

The father has no custodial rights to Zion, police said, and could face charges of custodial interference.

Daniel, 36, stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with black hair, brown eyes and no front teeth. He has tattoos of his last name across the fingers of one of his hands and on his right shoulder, in addition to a tattoo of the grim reaper on his chest.

Police said Bara could be driving a red 1991 2-door Acura with Texas license plate V83WKY.

Sara Vasquez, 26, is about 5 feet tall, weighs about 150 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

Zion, 6, is 3 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs about 60 pounds and was last seen wearing a red polo shirt and dark blue shorts.

Police search for dad suspected of abducting son

Chandler police are looking for a 6-year-old Hispanic boy who they believe was abducted by his father after school. The father does not have legal custody of his son, and authorities believe he may attempt to take the child out of state.

Zion Bara is 3 feet, 6 inches tall, approximately 60 pounds, and was last seen wearing a red polo shirt and dark blue shorts. According to Chandler police, he was checked out of a school in the Chandler Unified School District at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Daniel Bara, the boy’s father, is a 36-year-old Hispanic male, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, with black hair, brown eyes and no front teeth. According to authorities, he has several tattoos, including his last name on the fingers of one of his hands and right shoulder as well as a tattoo of the Grim Reaper on the left side of his chest. He was last seen driving a red, 1991 two-door Acura bearing the Texas license plate V83WKY.

Authorities said Bara has no legal custody of his son and hadn’t seen the boy for three years. He could face charges of custodial interference.

Officials believe Bara may be taking the child to Lubbock, Texas, where he is known to live with his sister.

Police arrest dad in child abduction

Police arrested Daniel Bara, 36, Wednesday in connection with abducting his 6-year-old son from a Chandler school Tuesday and taking him to Texas.

Chandler police spokesman detective Dave Ramer said local police worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety, federal authorities and other Texas police departments to find Zion Bara and his father.
