The Arizona Republic

A 59-year-old Tempe woman reported missing more than two weeks ago has been found dead near Arizona 88, about 20 miles west of the community of Roosevelt northeast of the Valley, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Susan B. Berkowitz apparently was killed in a single-vehicle car crash and was found in a canyon area approximately 300 to 500 feet away from the road, according to a DPS news release. Authorities are investigating her death.

The crash may have occurred on May 21 or later, the release said. Berkowitz was last seen on the morning of May 18 at her home near Warner and Kyrene roads in Tempe. At the time, police said there was no indication of foul play, but Berkowitz's family said she was supposed to be taking a prescribed medication that she did not have with her.

It's not immediately clear where Berkowitz was headed or what led to the crash, authorities said.
