Amber Alert: Missing child may be heading to Florida

Tallahassee, Florida -- The state issued an Amber Alert tonight for a teenaged girl from Illinois who may be heading to the Miami area.

The FDLE said Roza Ahmad, 15, was last seen near the Belleville East High School in Belleville, Illinois, and may be in the company of a 49-year-old man.

She is described as 5'3" tall, 130 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink long sleeve shirt, khaki pants and a multi-colored backpack.

The FDLE says she may be in the company of Heriberto Rodriguez, 49, 5'4", 160 lbs, brown hair, brown eyes.

The alert made no mention of a vehicle description.

Belleville, where she was last seen when she was dropped off at Belleville East High School that morning. Police later learned that Roza had met a man named Heriberto Torres Rodriguez, who she had knew through MySpace, in a high school parking lot and left the state, Belleville police said.

Rodriguez, who lives in Miami Gardens, Fla., allegedly rented a car on Monday in Miami and drove to Belleville, where he picked up Rosa about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, video footage from school cameras showed. He returned the rental car today about 3 p.m., police said.

Rodriguez has two vehicles listed to him in Florida: a white Ford van with plates V179CQ and a red Ford pickup with a plates Q152HE. Rodriguez has not been seen at the last known address during the past two months.

Illinois Teen May Be with 49-Year-Old She Met Online

(KSDK) -- Investigators fear a 15-year-old Shiloh, Illinois girl could be in danger. Belleville Police reported Thursday that the girl was last seen two days ago getting into a rental car driven by a 49-year-old Florida man she'd recently met online.

Roza Husein Ahmad had been dropped off at Belleville East High School by her father on Tuesday morning.


Belleville Police learned that the girl left school grounds with Heriberto Torres Rodriguez, a resident of Miami Gardens, Florida, in a white Chevy Cobalt. The Cobalt was a rental car Rodriguez had acquired in Miami on Monday, May 19.

Rodriguez returned the rental vehicle shortly after 3 p.m. on May 22.

"We have to assume that they think they're boyfriend and girlfiend, so we can only hope that she's not in danger," Belleville Police Capt. Don Sax said. "But with the perverted thought process of people, and that kind of an age difference, it scares you that you don't know."

According to police, Rodriguez has two vehicles registered in his name in Florida: a white Ford van with Florida license plate V179CQ, and a red Ford pickup truck with Florida plate Q152HE.

Florida officials have issued an Amber Alert. Illinois authorities have not issued a SARAA / Amber Alert since they believe Ahmad has left the state.

Belleville Police are working in coordination with Illinois State Police, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, as well as FBI offices in Miami, Florida and Fairview Heights, Illinois.

News Release from the Belleville Police Department:

On 5-20-08 at 5:28pm the police department received a missing person report from Husein Ahmad the father of 15 year old Roza Husein Ahmad of Shiloh, IL. The report was made with the Belleville Police because Roza was last seen when dropped off at Belleville East High School that morning. As the investigation of Roza’s whereabouts continued it was learned that she had met a man from Florida online and met him in the parking lot at school and left the state of Illinois. As the investigation continued it was learned that the suspect Heriberto Torres Rodriguez 4-5-59 last known address of 4910 NW 178th Ter, Miami Gardens, FL had rented a white Chevy Cobalt in Miami FL on May 19, drove to Belleville picked up Roza at Belleville East High School at 10:02am on May 20, then returned the vehicle to the rental dealer on May 22, 2008 at 3:04pm. The information about the vehicle and time was found when video camera footage from the school was viewed and the events were found to have been recorded.

The Belleville Police Department has been in contact with and is currently working the case together with the Illinois State Police, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, FBI in Miami, FL and local FBI agents from Fairview Heights, IL.

The suspect has two vehicle registered to him in FL a white Ford van FL registration V179CQ and a red Ford pickup FL registration Q152HE. Rodriguez has not been seen at the last known address listed above for the past two months.

Florida officials issued an Amber Alert to aid in the apprehension of the suspect Heriberto Torres Rodriguez, and the safe return of Roza to her family. A SARAA / Amber Alert was not issued locally after it was discovered that Roza had left with an unauthorized adult, and the police department had information they had already left the state of Illinois.

Authorities arrest Miami man found with missing Ill. teen


MIAMI (AP) -- Authorities have arrested a Miami man they say was found with a missing 15-year-old girl from Illinois.

FBI officials say 49-year-old Heriberto Torres-Rodriguez was arrested Friday morning in Opa-Locka. The girl, Roza Ahmad, of Belleville, Ill., was found with him. Her condition is not yet known. Details of how both were found have not been released.

An Amber Alert was issued Thursday for the teen. Authorities say she was last seen at her school on May 20 with Torres-Rodriguez, a Miami-Dade County resident. Authorities say he drove to Illinois on Monday, picked Ahmad up and returned to Miami with her.

They met in Puerto Rico about a year ago.

A update on last week's Amber Alert for a Metro-East girl.

A Florida man could get 30-years to life for taking the 15-year -old girl across state lines.

Federal charges have been filed against Heriberto Torres-Rodriquez, 49, of Opa-Locka, Florida.

He's the man accused of picking up the girl at Belleville East High School last Tuesday and driving her to Florida for sexual activity.

Torres-Rodriquez will be returned to Illinois to face the charges.

The two met on the internet.

FLORIDA MAN CHARGED IN INDICTMENT



A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on June 17, 2008, HERIBERTO TORRES-RODRIGUEZ, age 49, of Opa-Loka, Florida, was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in East St. Louis, Illinois in a two count indictment charging him with Traveling in Interstate Commerce for the Purpose of Engaging in Illicit Sexual Conduct (Count 1), in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2423(b) and Transporting a Minor in Interstate Commerce with the Intent of Engaging in Sexual Activity with that Minor (Count 2), in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2423(a). Count 1 carries a maximum penalty of 30 years’ imprisonment. Count 2 carries a maximum penalty of not less than ten years up to life imprisonment.

An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.

Pursuant to Title 18, United States Code, Section 3509, which provides privacy rights to child crime victims, the identity of the minor child in this case is protected from public disclosure.

TORRES-RODRIGUEZ was taken into custody in Florida on May 23, 2008. He is expected to be returned to the Southern District of Illinois for further proceedings on these charges.

The case was investigated by the Belleville Police Department, the Illinois State Police, the Opa-Loka Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Miami, FL Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Fairview Heights, IL Office, with the assistance of the United States Attorney’s Office-Southern District of Florida.
