La Vergne police search for mom who disappeared

By MEALAND RAGLAND-HUDGINS
Gannett Tennessee

LA VERGNE — Police hope to find Bouaphanh "Nikki" Sisounong alive and well.
Sisounong, 34, a mother of two, has been missing since Halloween night. The last time anyone spoke to Sisounong was around 9 p.m. that day, when she spoke with someone who called her home on Moshe Yaalon Drive in Lake Forest Estates after she got home from her job in Antioch, police said.

"We're hoping we find her. We're working the best-case scenario and the worst-case scenario," Detective Lt. Stace Thompson said.

Friday night police arrested Mario Morgan, Sisounong's boyfriend of six years, for giving investigators false information, the detective said.
"Without going into too much detail, we started discovering things he was saying were untruthful," Thompson said Monday.

La Vergne police have responded to domestic violence calls at the home, the most recent on Oct. 15, he said.

Sisounong's pearl-white Infinity G35 was photographed by a bank surveillance camera on Sam Ridley Parkway Nov. 1. A man driving the car took $500 from her bank account.

Thompson said investigators are waiting on evidence to be processed by the crime lab, so they can determine what part it may play in the case.
Sisounong is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information related to her disappearance is asked to call La Vergne Police at 793-7744.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - A La Vergne mother has been missing for more than two weeks.
Police believe they are one step closer to solving Nikki Sisounong's disappearance.
They identified a new person of interest after they received the correct ATM video.
Sisounong disappeared on Halloween night.

Since then, police have investigated different leads.
They released images from surveillance video from a bank ATM in Smyrna. The pictures allegedly showed a man using her ATM card to withdraw money.
The first clip was wrong, due to a mistake by the bank, but now police have the right clip.

Police have identified the person using the card and driving the Nikki Sisounong's car.

"The mistake was the timing was off," Boyd said.

He said the department has reviewed the videos, but it would not release them until further investigation.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is processing another key piece of evidence.
On Wednesday, TBI agents and La Vergne police found the missing woman's car at Nashville International Airport. The TBI is still processing the car there.

Police now hope to obtain surveillance video from airport security cameras that show the driver.

These new developments confirm that the first man shown in the ATM surveillance video didn't have anything to with her disappearance.

The video showed Thaisand Mannorind using the machine.

The bank released his photo, thinking he may have used her card.
La Vergne Police Chief Ted Boyd said police had their doubts and asked the bank to double check the video.

"We talked to the bank yesterday and after double checking it was not him," Boyd said. "It was the wrong times we looked at."

Police said Mannorind was always very cooperative and answered all of their questions.

This led them to look deeper and that's when they discovered the bank released the wrong video.

Sisounong's son Jeffrey Sisounong said his mother's boyfriend Mario Morgan is in the new video.

"They found out that Mario Morgan was the person that took out money with the ATM card and he was the one who parked the car at the airport and left in taxi," Jeffrey Sisounong said.

He said this is what detectives told him.

Police neither confirmed nor denied the son's claims.

"My mom's body still hasn't been found," Sisounong said. "It's not a case of murder yet."

Morgan is his sister's father. He wonders how he could possibly be involved in his mother's disappearance.

"It's hard to believe he's the man who did this," he said. "It's terrible what he's doing."

Morgan was already charged in the case for providing false information to police. He was not charged with her disappearance.

Morgan could not be reached for comment.

There is no evidence that Sisounong is the victim of foul play.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Investigators found a car belonging to a La Vergne woman relatives reported missing earlier this month.

Nikki Sisounong has been missing since Halloween.

NewsChannel 5 has learned that lawmen found her car at Nashville International Airport.

Police have also cleared Thaisand Mannorind of having any connection with the woman's disappearance.

"I am an innocent man," Mannorind told NewsChannel 5 Tuesday. "I'm innocent. That's all I am going to say."

Police released images taken from a bank surveillance video showing Mannorind driving a car similar to Sisounong's. It was believed that he drove the car and used her ATM card to withdraw $500 the night she was last seen by her family.

La Vergne Police Lt. Stace Thompson said additional evidence from the bank and Mannorind's cooperation allowed police to clear him of any suspected wrongdoing.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents inspected the vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - La Vergne police interviewed a man they've called a person of interest in connection with the disappearance of a La Verge woman.

Relatives said Bouaphanh "Nikki" Sisounong, 34, vanished without a trace after Halloween.

Police believe Thaisand Mannorind drove her car and used her ATM card to withdraw $500 that night.

Detectives have bank surveillance video that shows a man allegedly using a car like Sisounong's and her ATM card. She did not appear to be in the car.

"I am an innocent man," Mannorind said Tuesday. "I'm innocent. That's all I am going to say."

La Vergne Police Lt. Stace Thompson said Mannorind vehemently denies any knowledge of Sisounong or her whereabouts.

During questioning, he told police he withdrew money from the bank before going to work that night. He said the car in the picture isn't Sisounong's.

"He has denied that he's used her card," said La Vergne Police Chief. Ted Boyd. "Even though he's denied it doesn't mean he didn't do it."

Police said Mannorind will return Wednesday for more questioning.
Police also will bring Sisounong's common-law husband, Mario Morgan, back in for questioning after he gets an attorney.

Significant Other Arrested In Case of Missing Woman

LAVERGNE, Tenn.- There is a possible break in the case of a missing LaVergne woman. Police believe Nikki Sisounong's common law husband knows a lot more about the case than he's telling.

Mario Morgan was taken into custody Friday night. Police fear foul play is involved in this case but, Morgan was taken into custody only for giving false statements to police.

Now Nikki's son Jeffery hopes while Morgan is in custody the police will have a better chance of finding his mother.

"Mr. Morgan is in custody and charged with giving false information to law enforcement" said Stace Thompson with LaVergne Police.

Thursday night, Morgan said the last time he saw Nikki Sisounong was Wednesday of last week.

Nikki's son Jeffery feels like that statement is the reason Morgan is behind bars. Jeffery said that Morgan told police he had not heard from her on the 24th, but he said his family heard from her and on the 31st. However, police have not commented on exactly what Mr. Morgan lied about.

"We don't want to close out talking to other people at this time. But we were able to obtain a warrant for statements he made in his interview," said Thompson.

LaVergne police are still investigating. They searched Morgan's home with help from the TBI.

"We are obtaining items and substances from inside for evaluation at the crime lab," said Thompson.

With this latest development, Jeffrey has lost faith in a man that he lived with for almost six years.

"I'm sure he had something to do with this since that was the last place she visited," said Jeffery.

Sisounong's son said he still hopes she is alive and will come back home. Nikki's son also said life was good for a while living with Morgan, but as the years went on it started to get bad.

The police were called to the house for domestic violence calls in the past. Jeffery said most of the problems were because Mario was overprotective, and he didn't have enough trust in Nikki.

Even though Mario Morgan is in custody, he has only been charged with giving false statements to police.

LaVergne Police said the man who used Sisounong's ATM card was also driving her car. It's a 2003 Infiniti G35 sedan, with Tennessee tags 123-RCF.

Police search for woman, identity of remains found nearby
By MEALAND RAGLAND-HUDGINS

LA VERGNE — Jeffery Sisounong has had dreams that his mother, Bouaphanh "Nikki" Sisounong, may not be alive. "I've been getting some signs from her. On Nov. 2, I had a dream that she was drowning in a lake, not in a river. When I woke up and told my grandmother, she said she thought the same thing," the 17-year-old said.

Sisounong, a 34-year-old mother of two, has been missing since Halloween. She was last seen at about 9 p.m. at her home on Moshe Yaalon Drive in Lake Forest Estates — about a mile away from where human remains were found Wednesday and Thursday.

Police said the bones are not her's — and don't know yet to whom they belong.

Mario Morgan, her boyfriend of six years, was arrested Nov. 9 for providing false information to investigators during the course of their investigation in Sisounong's disappearance. He is free on bond.

Her son said he last spoke to his mother Oct. 30 as she was registering him to attend Maplewood High School in Nashville.

"She told me she was going to get my sister (2-year-old Savannah) from (Morgan's) house and I could take her trick-or-treating. We didn't go, though," he said.

Jeffery isn't handling his mother's disappearance well and said his sister is too young to know what's really going on.

"I think she's too young to know my mom is missing. Her father (Morgan) probably told her my mom went to work," he said.

The teen also said he last spoke with Morgan about a week ago. He said Morgan told him he would be there for Jeffery if he needed anything.

Jeffery's not sure if he can trust the man his mother loved.

"I believe he would, but he wouldn't say it out of nowhere. He may have been trying to comfort me," he said.

He said the last time he went to the house in Lake Forest Estates, it was messier than before and a dining room chair was broken.

Officer Bob Hayes was patrolling the heavily wooded area along Hollandale Road early Wednesday morning looking for signs of Sisounong's pearl-white Infiniti G35, when he spotted bones along the side of the road.

"He went out with the mindset of, 'If I had to ditch a car around here, where would I go?'" La Vergne Police Chief Ted Boyd said. "He happened to see a little trail (created by a car) and followed it. On the way out, he found the femur bone. He did a great job."

Boyd said the bones Hayes first observed were from a deer or similar animal, but further investigation turned up a human skull and femur bones.
A bullet, bracelet and ring were found in the area during Thursday's search. The caliber of the bullet was unknown and it has been sent to the crime lab along with the jewelry. Investigators are not releasing photos or descriptions to the media at this time.

"It could be a generic item or it could be one that would have sentimental value, we're just not sure," Boyd said of the bracelet a couple of hours before the ring and bullet were found.

It's possible that wild animals, such as coyotes, scattered the bones throughout the site, Boyd said. Preliminary estimates indicated the bones had been there at least four or five months, too long to be related to Sisounong's case.

Law enforcement officials from surrounding counties, including police in Mt. Juliet, have already been in contact with La Vergne police to see if the remains could be linked to active missing persons cases there, Boyd said.

Mt. Juliet Police Chief Winston Floyd said any time remains are found, police in surrounding counties and states are generally interested. Floyd's ears perked up about this discovery because his department has been searching for a missing woman for nearly seven months.

"If you're going to do your job, you get out and search," Floyd said. "Every time someone finds a body, I think, 'This could be our person.'"
Trisha Marie Meador, 26, has been missing since April 26. She is 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds.

La Vergne Police wrapped up the search at the Hollandale Road site mid-afternoon Thursday.

"We (had) to process it; we just couldn't leave it," Chief Boyd said of the discovered bones.

"It does slow you down a little, though," the chief said of the department's search for Sisounong.

Search activities may resume closer to Sisounong's home today.
Nikki Sisounong's father doesn't speak English well, but he said the family is concerned about her well-being.

"We're scared," Seuy Sisounong said when contacted at his home in Nashville Thursday.

Sisounong's car was found at Nashville International Airport Wednesday afternoon. Police are studying surveillance video.

A similar car had been spotted on a surveillance video at the Bank of America branch on Sam Ridley Parkway West Nov. 1, but the driver has since been cleared as a suspect.

Boyd said times on the surveillance footage bank officials provided was based on Eastern Standard Time and not Central Standard Time. New video has been obtained, he said, but it is not being released to the media, either.

"It's too important to our investigation," he said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol's Critical Incident Response Team used electronic equipment to map the area. The agency planned to use two helicopters to perform an aerial search, but winds were too strong.

Police along the Kentucky state line have also been asked to look for anything out of the ordinary. Boyd said investigators got a tip that Morgan has been to Kentucky since Sisounong's disappearance.
"When I heard that on the news, I got scared. I thought about her being in a lake in Kentucky. I just hoped my dream wasn't coming true," Jeffery Sisounong said.

LPD looking for missing woman
By amayes - Date: 2007-11-08 22:21:31

The La Vergne Police Department is looking for a woman who has been missing since Oct. 31, according to LPD Detective Lt. Stace Thompson.
Bouaphanh "Nikki" Sisounong, 34, of La Vergne was last spoken to around 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, Thompson said. Someone had called her home and spoke to her after she arrived home from work in Antioch.

"She left her two and a half year old with her mother and has a 17-year-old son," Thompson said.

Her pearl white Infinity G35 was spotted on a bank surveillence camera on Sam Ridley Parkway on Nov. 1. The driver -- an Asian male --took $500 from her bank account. None of her family and friends recognize the male, Thompson said. She did not appear to be in the car.

Sisounong is 5' 3" and weighs 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. Police have spoken with her live-in boyfriend of six years and he has no information on where she could be, Thompson said.

There is a history of domestic violence at the home. Thompson said the last incident took place on Oct. 15.

Anyone with information, is asked to call LPD at 793-7744.

"Missing LaVergne Woman's Body Found"

LaVergne Police said they have found the body of Nikki Sisounong, the 34-year-old mother of two who has been missing since October 31.
Her body was discovered, wrapped in plastic, just off the exit ramp 8 off Interstate 24 in Clarksville at about 12 midnight, police said.

On Tuesday morning, FBI agents and local law enforcement in Connecticut took Sisounong’s live-in boyfriend of six years, Mario Morgan, into custody and charged him with auto theft for stealing Sisounong’s car . (http://www.wkrn.com/)

LaVergne Police said surveillance video shows Morgan driving Sisounong's car and...
... using her bank card at a Smyrna bank just after she disappeared . (http://www.wkrn.com/)

Once in custody, police said Morgan confessed to strangling Sisounong after an argument and dumping her body . (http://www.wkrn.com/)

He even drew them a map of where police would find her.

LaVergne Lt. Stace Thompson said , (http://www.wkrn.com/)“At some point I just think he realized the amount of evidence was becoming overwhelming. Probably for the sake of Nikki and the family and everybody involved, including himself, and gave it up.”

At about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Sisounong's family was escorted out of the LaVergne Police Department by the police chaplain and the police chief.

The family said they are focusing on bringing Morgan to justice.

The medical examiner will be looking at Sisounong's body Wednesday.

Investigators will present all the evidence to the Rutherford County District Attorney and focus on bringing Morgan back to Tennessee.

Investigators also said Sisounong had a close friend who told police he spoke with her everyday for the month and a half before she went missing.

The friend said he was feared for her safety and had Sisounong calling him every 30 minutes to make sure she was okay.

The friend said when she didn’t call him, he became concerned . (http://www.wkrn.com/)

Police told New 2 it was from that moment they knew they wouldn’t find Sisounong alive.

About a week after Sisounong’s disappearance, Morgan spoke with News 2.

“We’re not legally married. We’ve been together, about, almost six years now. Obviously, because I’m her partner, they’re looking at me first but right now, it’s just, we’re looking for her,” he had said.

The next day, October 9, Morgan was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of justice for giving false information to police.

He bonded out of jail two days later. That is when authorities believe he traveled to Connecticut.

Morgan remains in a Connecticut jail Wednesday morning.

Sisounong leaves behind a 17-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. Morgan is the baby girl’s father . (http://www.wkrn.com/)

"Missing Mom's Body Found, Boyfriend Charged"

The live-in boyfriend of a missing LaVergne mother has now been charged with her murder.

Mario Morgan is charged with first degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Nikki Sisounong.

Sisounong’s body was found at about 12 midnight Tuesday, just off Interstate 24 in Clarksville, ending a long, three week search.

She had not been seen since October 31.

Tuesday morning, FBI agents and local law enforcement took Morgan into custody in Connecticut.

He was charged in Tennessee with auto theft, for stealing Sisounong’s... car.

Late Tuesday night, Police said Morgan confessed to killing Sisounong and even drew a map of where investigators could find her remains.

That location, an exit ramp in Clarksville, is where police found her body, wrapped in a plastic garbage bag.

LaVergne Police Chief Ted Boyd said, “We did get a confession, he stated that he killed Nikki and he also stated where the body was. We went there and recovered the body."

At first, police said Morgan tried to tell authorities he was someone else. He presented officers with a fake ID.

After a few hours of questioning in Connecticut Tuesday night, Morgan started talking.

LaVergne Lt. Stace Thompson said, “At some point I just think he realized the amount of evidence was becoming overwhelming. Probably for the sake of Nikki and the family and everybody involved, including himself, and gave it up.”

When asked why he killed her, investigators said Morgan only talked about a fight the two had on Halloween night, at the house they shared in LaVergne.

Lt. Thompson said, “The argument became heated, became physical, and by his own statement, he strangled Nikki."

Detectives said they were suspicious of Morgan from the very beginning, especially after surveillance video showed him using Sisounong’s bank card at the Bank of America in LaVergne and dropping her car off at the Nashville International Airport.

A friend of Morgan’s also contacted police and told investigators they had been drinking together when Morgan confessed he had killed Sisounong and was bringing her body to the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.

“Regardless of whether or not he had pre-planned this, it’s still not a good thing to take somebody’s life. You have to pay the price,” said Chief Boyd.

At this point, police do not believe there was anyone else involved in Sisounong’s murder.

Investigators will perform an autopsy Sisounong to confirm that she was not pregnant. Morgan reportedly told authorities she may have been pregnant.

Morgan remains in a Connecticut jail Wednesday night where he will likely remain until December, when he will be extradited back to LaVergne.

His bond has been set at $2 million.

"Nikki Sisounong's Son, Investigators React To Arrest"

Nikki Sisounong's family is struggling to understand why she was murdered.

Sisounong disappeared on October 31. Her body was found three weeks later, wrapped in plastic, just off Interstate 24 in Clarksville.

Sisounong's live-in boyfriend, Mario Morgan, was brought back to Tennessee Wednesday night.

He is charged in her murder. He was arrested in Connecticut on auto theft charges on November 20.

Shortly after his arrest, authorities said he confessed to the murder and drew them a map of where to find her body.

Sisounong and Morgan have a two-year-old daughter named Savannah together.

Sisounong has a 17-year-old son named Jeffrey from a previous relationship.

Jeffery Sisounong said his mother was joyful, always smiling and a good mother.

“I don’t even know what to say about him. I don’t know why he wanted to do it in the first place. It’s someone that everybody loved,” he said. “She always been there for me. From since I was little, ‘til this day. Now I have no one to run to or anything.”

Investigators spent weeks looking for any sign of Sisonoung after her disappearance.

Authorities combed through the home that she and Morgan.

They also searched a construction site behind Morgan's home in LaVergne and Long Hunter State Park for clues.

“We would hope for a different conclusion to this,” said LaVergne Police Chief Ted Boyd. “We sure wish we could’ve found Nikki alive, but even we believed that she was dead before there even was a report made.”

Lt. Stace Thompson, LaVergne Police Department, said, “We found broken furniture, we found, obviously, things that we took from the house that had biological substances on them that were being evaluated… That would be consistent with what he’s said.”
Morgan arrived at the Nashville International Airport at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Rutherford County deputies then escorted him to the Rutherford County Detention Center.
