I have noticed her in my living room, often sitting in my favorite part of the couch, and making it sink in much more than it ever used to.
I thought she was a family member I had forgotten, so I haven't dared say anything to her.
My husband seems at ease with her, barely notices her being here, she causes him no trouble.
Last night she was in bed with us!! She left when I turned the lights out.

You know ladies it's not just the old woman. An old man has moved into my house as well. The unfortunate part is not the aging as I wouldn't have gained all that alleged wisdom and experience over these many decades. It's the part about where you still think you happen to be 30 and decide you don't need any help except one son to move an 800 pound pool table. Yup, that was a 3 Vicodin night!!!
I just noticed when I was shaving that my electric razor gets hung up in these hunks of skin that upon closer inspection turn out to be a double chin!!! Hey, but it beats the alternative!!
The one thing that has never changed is to me, my wife is as beautiful as she was 4 decades ago when we first got married!! Also, any man that is not partially housebroken after all these years has probably led a pretty miserable existence. There are just certain things that never come out of your mouth, regardless of what you really think!! Doesn't matter if you're 20 or 90!!

I have 6 grown children and 14 grandchildren I always went shopping at the mall for all of them and spend all day. I went shopping with my dd the other day and it took me 2 days to recover my body didn't know what the hell I did to it.I realized that I couldn't keep up to her, thats when I knew I had to admit I am old.I don't know when it happened or how it happened but it happened.:thud2::waitasec::shock::67302:

when i was back in my 20's, i'd go see bands sometimes 5 nites a week (yes, i was a groupie).:) then i'd get up & go to work, come home, get ready & do it all over again. now, i'm in bed by 11PM & dh is still in a band. he'll ask if i'm going to the gig & i laugh at him. there is nothing he can possibly do on stage that i haven't seen already & i'm about done with the drunk scene.

My husband used to be in the music business and was even signed to Warner/reprise at one time. I know exactly what you're saying! At one point I was like, been there, seen that. I quit going to the shows because I was so tired of the scene.
If I want to drink and dance, I turn on the CD player.

I was so done with that scene too about 20 yrs ago. I just need more to stimulate my brain. (like these meds are not enough lmao) I just now had to get out the icepack today so thats pretty good, I made it 9 hours before I was in screaming pain. :mornincoffee: I remember those concert days too, also being out all night and then no sleep and getting in the shower going to work all day, turning around and doing it again! Omg just wait, some of you will see. There comes a day when you CANNOT and oddly enough dont wanna either. I love my warm cozy home. Give me a feather bed anyday a book and hubby and I'm :s1gyahoo:

It's bad enough with just one, but nine would be the end of the night's sleep. Sometimes, I try to ignore him thinking maybe he doesn't really have to go, but then I think about myself. I have to go at @3am almost every night, and I know if I were denied my trip to the b'room, I'd be miserable, so Oliver goes potty at 4 am.

not to mention that if i get up, the 2 my dh sleeps with in his room will go off, as will the 3 in the den & the 2 pups in crates. & my foster/stalker on the 3rd floor has a mal/great dane mix up there & he'll start howling. the dog, not the kid. so i go to bed late & tell them all to shut up & hold it til a decent hour.

I love this topic because I just told my Mom the other day that as I get older, I see more of her in myself.

Grins & Rockford, you're making me blush!! Thanks for the good words. I just try to do the right thing. I've lived life to the beat of my own drum and still do. If I want to do or say something I just go for it and damn the consequences.... I work hard, rock hard and play hard. Also thanks for the shirt off my back comment. I've always looked at it as "if I've got it and you need it, it's yours, no questions asked and no debt owed". Amazingly, I've found that somehow it comes back as there are probably a couple of dozen of my friends and me that literally could live off that system. We trade skills and never ask for anything. Today, a friend of mine picked me up and we went to a local high school basketball game. I went out his house and repaired one of the computers he and his wife use for their business. Saved them $250 and I got a couple of beers, stromboli, hot wings and good company for a few hours. I was looking for something very special for my wife's birthday and had mentioned it to them last spring. About a week later my friends wife calls and says "come to the house without your wife". They do stonework and some other things and had cut this huge piece of granite and polished the face of it and then etched our names in it surrounded by 2 big hearts. The thing weighed about 150 pounds so I had to wait until my wife went out the next day to install it correctly in her favorite garden. She loved it and it was perfect. I would have paid at least $500 or more to have one made.... no charge because we're friends. The old saying "what comes around, goes around" which is usually used in a get even type situation, also works in a very positive way if you just take care of people.
I can't think of anything I couldn't acquire or get done and from my end if someone calls me for help, they know I'm there in a heartbeat. That's what makes me rich beyond anyone's wildest expectations. Not in a financial way but, in a way far more superior. Hey, anyone can go out and generate money and I can do that in a big way but, living life large is a much bigger charge and a hell of a lot more fun. After the first mil or so it's just a number!!

Funny thread.
Reminds me, at work a few weeks ago some of the women thought it would be funny if we brought in pics from our younger years, wedding albums. We are all "middle-aged", one ladies husband asked her if she still saw that girl in the mirror. She said, "yes, but she isn't looking back!"

Oh Grins you said the magic word.....Pittsburgh. Even though I'm about 175 miles east in the Harrisburg area, I've had an office down at 5 Gateway off of Commonwealth for as long as it's been there. I'm in the "Burgh" at least twice a month, more during football season of course. I try to leave Mrs. River at home as she goes really nutso shopping at Station Square in those little train cars they turned into antique shops. It is really hazardous to my bank account!!!
The other thing we have in common is that ethnic thing. The neighborhood I grew up in was like a mini version of the UN. Germans, Serbs, Poles, Italians and Blacks. I loved eating at my one friends house as his dad was black and his mom Italian. It was the only house in the neighborhood you could get ham hocks and black eyed peas and a side of pasta at the same meal!!!

Station Square is dangerous for my bucks too especially in the Irish and sports shops. Lived on Mt Washington so only had to jump on the incline.
My office was in the Court House and I loved the history and beauty of it. Finished in 1888, the court rooms were huge and ornate with great marble fireplaces. One was redone to the original plans including the chandeliers.
They used to publicly hang bad guys in the court yard.
Food was shared like you; often passed from one house to the very close next on a broom out the window. Imagine being outside and seeing an Irish stew pot appearing on a broom over to the window opposite and a Halupki coming back.
That always made me laugh.
We are brothers truly;

Best winches to you too Grins. When I was a kid they used to have this thing in the neighborhood once a month where everyone would stop at each others house for one course of a meal and then the entire neighborhood would end up at the house that was serving dessert and hang out for a couple of hours. That was the coolest thing. Growing up none of us kids were exposed to any sort of racism until we were old enough to get out of town and this was in the 50's & 60's. What's absolutely amazing is this town today is exactly as it was when I was growing up. Even though the town is only 20% black, they've had the same Mayor, a black gentleman for over 30 years and he is now mayor for life. Every once in a while someone gets it right, way ahead of their time. This was one of those times and 12,000 of us were at the right place at the right time!!!
Oh yeah, I've been in the Court House quite a few times. Those old buildings are just way cool. I can also see the inclines across the river at night from my office. Someone on the west shore of Harrisburg copied the idea and put nice homes on top of a giant hill across from the city but never installed inclines. Great view of the city from there at night though.
One of the other thing I like about Pittsburgh is some of the great old bars and taverns that are still around. Excellent food and the places just wreak with history. Pittsburgh has always reminded me of a giant town rather than a city. The people are just so down to earth in all sections. I have a good friend that teaches at Allderdice and lives in the "hood" about a block away. What amazes me is the two of us at our advanced ages can still walk around at night in the neighborhood and no one bothers us. Harrisburg is 1/10 the size of Pittsburgh and as soon as you get away from the downtown area you aren't safe even in the daytime!!!

The neighborhoods are all close to 'dahntahn' so it is a big town.
Places like Oyster House, Primanti's and the Big O,,,
Original Hot Dog give it character.

I've enjoyed reading this whole thread. And DownRiver, I think you were the drummer. I've enjoyed reading yours and grins storys. I don't have any happy memories of my childhood. Or neighborhoods. But, what brought me to this thread was, I was sitting on my couch, in front of my big window where the sun is just right. I needed to pluck my eyebrows. I got my Mag mirror out and started plucking away when I noticed how many wrinkles I had on my face. Something happened inside of me. I no longer felt young. I thought to myself, who are you kidding? and now I'm real self conscience. I haven't been out of my house for a month. today I had to leave for a doctor appt. Then straight back home. My husband goes and gets the mail when he gets home. He goes grocery shopping. He picks up my meds. I make the bills out and put them in the mail box after 9 PM at night. What happened to me?

Hey, don't let a couple of wrinkles slow you down. If I had a dollar for every one of mine, I could buy the entire board dinner!! Get out there and don't worry about it. Life is too short to miss out on all the great stuff because we've aged a bit. The second I get on stage I'm 18 all over again except those screaming babes all look pretty old out in the audience now!!! Just kidding... Being a little elderly isn't such a bad thing. Oh I think I have a few of those crinkles from life, smokin and the little heart aches that come along the way with the journey.
I just don't know where it all went! Hopes and dreams, kids just livin life that next thing ya know, Here I am on the way to hittin the 60 mark.
Well, I look in the mirror and think It is what it Is. I love my animals, dirt in my garden, cookin in my kitchen, and have some regret. Like my belly button now would not look good exposed with a diamond piercing for all to see, My boobs are at the mercy of gravity. Hair can be fixed, teeth whitened, but that inner self tells me I have been surrounded with irreplacable memories, no time to slump into vanity here, I have always been the wallflower. So aging is another stepping stone I am oblivious too until I meet up with my crazy Sister who is 10 years younger and on her third husband. Holy Smokes, how fast I whip out the gel, high heels I can't walk in after ankle surgery, kiss hubby goodbye and pretend I can handle nightlife after 10pm.
Just a little funnin with Y'all.
