IT was a dark and stormy night — actually four stormy nights — when Jayme Otto, 31, and her husband, Ryan Otto, 33, drove 1,200 miles from their home in Boulder, Colo., to her parents’ house in Cleveland for Christmas.

“We traveled all this way to bring our yellow Labrador, Cody Bear, home to spend time with his grandparents,” Ms. Otto said, “grandparents” being dog-person-speak for her parents.

My dogs are all large, so they don't accompany me everywhere.

Should you ask your host if you can bring your dog? Of course.

And are they a part of my family, yes!

i would never just bring any of my dogs to someones house unannounced. that being said, i don't go anywhere on holidays, because i don't want to leave them.

I know how you feel, Mary. I hate leaving mine even for a couple hours. Those pitiful little looks, like "how can you leave me?" just tug at your heart.

Holidays are all at my house now since having an "issue" over my dogs not being welcome on Thanksgiving at my brother's house a couple years ago. :)

I found the member of my family at the animal shelter when he was 3 months old. He's now 3 years old and the joy of my life. His name is Tanner because he's the tan man.
I can't stand being away from him either. He makes me laugh every day. I don't have another family member that does that!

I just found the best solution to dog hair and I thought I'd share it with you. It's big sheets of lint, hair removal. You can lay it on a chair cushion and all the dog hair will stick to it and pull up. I first saw it on THE VIEW, it was one of Whoopie's "must haves".
I agree with the Whoop. They're wonderful.

Your baby is beautiful!

I will have to try those lint sheets. My beagle (black and white) sheds terribly, I don't have the problem so much with my pitbull, her hair is tiny and fawn colored. Magic's hair is LONG and is EVERYWHERE!
