Police seek help to ID remains

Police are asking for help in identifying a woman whose skeletal remains were found last year in an empty lot in the 1400 block of Austin Highway.

The remains were discovered in October after a man riding his scooter through the lot stopped to drink a beer and saw a human skull in the ground, according to a police report. Police found more remains in a subsequent search.

The Texas Department of Public Safety completed a facial reconstruction, providing an image of what the woman may have looked like.

The woman's death has been ruled a homicide, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office believes she could have been dead for 11/2 years before being discovered.

Investigators have reconstructed what her face may have looked like.

Her skeletal remains were found in October of last year in a vacant lot in the 1400 block of Austin Hwy. Police say she was a Caucasian between the ages of 19 and 30 and between 5'4" and 5'8". The Medical Examiner's Office reports she could have been dead for up to 1 ½ years before she was discovered.

Gloria, April's Mom is a member at Scared Monkeys, but I know her mostly from Blogs for Natalee. Is anyone here able to present this to her with tact? I really would not know how to share this with her....

The sketch does look like her. As hard as it is I'd think someone would want to know good or bad rather than to keep living with the unknown.

I can see a resemblance but April went missing in 04 and police found this lady in 07... her time of death was listed as year and half prior to the discovery of her remains...

I know.....but they have been known to be wrong when determining 'how long'....

I am April's Mother, Gloria. I just got home from a two day wedding event, so my post will be short. I thank all of you for your opnions. Especially you nut44x4, for being thoughtful enough to want me to see this Jane Doe's sketch. Thank you Carolyn, for sending to me as well. Do you really see a resemblance with April? I am not sure, but I will be contacting for a dental and/ or DNA comparison. I will be contacting the lead coroner on April's case. Thank you all so very much. I have her two little girls here for most of the summer. They were 'beautiful" at the wedding...the hit many said!!! The oldest is a 'carbon copy" of her Momma. At times it is "breath taking," and I fight back the tears and have to get ahold of me.....Without the faith God has given to me. I could not do this. And because of wonderful people as all of you. You motivate and inspire me with the concern, love and encouragement that you show. May the Lord be with you.

Thank you ever so much. April's missing day is really soon. It is so very hard to know and believe it will begin "FIVE" years. I have hope. I cannot give up. Though her case took a 180 degree turn after this last search in April. Now, I am walking totally blind. I have faith though, that the Lord will lead me in the way in which to go. Just as he revealed the 'truth" to everybody. I insisted on the last search that I was looking the person's of interest up, and asking questions for myself. I am so glad that I did. But sad I have "nothing" to enforce a search on the real suspects and their compound. I am praying this will change soon. I have April's little girls with me for their summer vacation. I can't even imagine your pain, Gloria, but I applaud you for not giving up in your search for justice.

Just hug those little girls extra hard, and tell them every day how much their mother loves them, and that wherever she is, she's with them in their hearts.

Welcome to HFTM, Gloria. I realize that you know your daughter's features better than anyone, but I think what may be throwing you 'off' on this reconstruction is the 'fullness' of the face. I too can see the obvious difference there. However, the structure of the face is more of what I was looking at and just picturing it a tad thinner.

Anyway, I know this is a 'longshot' and when I relayed this info to Carolyn I did stress this. I also know that no stone must go unturned.
If it is even remotely possible...it must be checked out. I am happy to help in any way I can. Please keep us posted.
