Buffalo Police searching for missing woman

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - - Buffalo Police need the public's help in locating the whereabouts of a missing Buffalo woman.

Aretha Martin, 37, was last seen on May 7, in the vicinity of Walden Avenue and Rapin St. Aretha Martin is described as 5'1, 130 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair. Ms. Martin also has some damage to her left eye.

Police find body of missing woman

The decomposed body of a woman who went missing a month ago after she apparently witnessed a man’s murder was discovered by a State Police cadaver dog Thursday morning at May Street and Walden Avenue.

Sources said the woman, who was identified as Aretha Martin, 37, was the victim of a homicide and her body was found in a grassy field about 9:15 a. m. The State Police cadaver dog was assisting Buffalo Police homicide detectives and Ferry-Fillmore District officers in the search for Martin.

Martin, last seen May 7 near Walden Avenue and Rapin Street, is the city’s 14th homicide victim of 2008.

According to sources, there was an apparent link between Martin’s death and that of Raymond Johnson Jr., 30, who was found dead in a vehicle about 10:30 p. m. on May 7. Johnson, the city’s 12th homicide this year, died of a single gunshot would to the head.

It is believed Martin may have witnessed Johnson’s murder and tried to flee. Shortly after Johnson was believed shot, a woman was heard screaming in that area before at least one more gunshot rang out.
