Other news, I was picking up DD from school yesterday and I had to pull over for a fire truck and ambulence. They stopped about three block ahead of me and as I passed them there was a man laying in the street. He didn't look good and I found out he had jumped out of his apartment window to his death. I would have seen him do it if I had left the house a few minutes earlier. Glad I left when I did.

Oh and I am worried now with the hurricane season coming-wait it is here! I am 1200 miles away from FL and have to get someone to do hurricane shutters there again--hope this isn't a bad year.

Loved the dryer story, when the stick fails, use shipping tape LOL :67302: When I dry feather comforters with the dryer and put in about 6 old tenners, the door comes open, but the tape keeps it shut! hee hee :basic44:

COURTROOM UPDATES: 6/3/08
posted at 1:40 p.m.: The judge has now qualified 17 potential jurors, and will continue to question jurors throughout the afternoon.

Neil Entwistle's lawyer, Elliot Weinstein, still expresses displeasure with how Judge Diane Kottmyer is questioning jurors, given how many people say they know details of the case.

He also said Entwistle's family is expected to remain in the country for the duration of the trial.

Weinstein said the case has been hard on Entwistle's parents, Yvonne and Clifford, because their son is charged in the case and "they lost a daughter and a granddaughter."

Notes from MA v Entwistle jury selection
Posted: 02:11 PM ET
WOBURN, Massachusetts – Neil Entwistle’s parents, Clifford and Yvonne, and his brother, Russell, are in court today. They are seated in the first row of the public gallery, directly behind the defense table.

Neil Entwistle smiled at them when he came into court this morning. He sits, again, to the far right of the defense table in a dark suit and pink shirt. The defense team brought the freshly-laundered shirt into court this morning and had it delivered to Entwistle in his holding cell. Defense attorney Elliot Weinstein passed on my request to meet the Entwistles; they declined “at this time.”

As I watch jury selection, author and radio host Michelle McPhee is sitting next to me. I happen to be reading (though not in court) her book about the Entwistle case, “Heartless.”

As of the lunch break, nine men and eight women have been qualified to sit as jurors. Excused jurors include a man whose wife was also summoned to jury service in this case and is among the eight women qualified thus far. Another has a friend who knew Rachel Entwistle. A third said he would hold it against Entwistle if he didn’t testify at the trial.

The attorneys are expected to begin exercising peremptory challenges tomorrow. Each side has 16 of them. Opening statements and testimony from the first witnesses could happen by Thursday.

Entwistle family breaks silence

Neil Entwistle's family broke their silence today at the end of the court session.

Reading from a prepared statement, Clifford Entwistle, flanked by his wife Yvonne and son Russell, defended his son.

"We know our son Neil is innocent, 100 percent innocent," he said.

Clifford Entwistle said the family would not make any more comments until the end of the trial and referred all comments to his lawyer, Peter Parker.

Also today, Judge Diane Kottmeyer qualified 16 jurors, bringing the total to 24 to be considered.

I think that they should stand by their child but not defend them. That is what the lawyers are paid to do.
I think if I was in that positition I would just stay silent unless I really knew they were innocent with proof.

I have 2 teen boys, too. And I tell them I won't bail them out. No angels in this house, but good boys and no serious troubles - yet! I love the no halos or wings in the dryer. I gotta use that!!!

But I could tell you stories of arrest that were outrageous and parents needed to support their kids no matter what. One got arrested and kicked out of a prestigious college in Boston for writing a "slur" on a friend's white board hanging on the dorm room door. It was a joke, but the campus cops (not the friend) labeled it a hate crime. This family was destroyed over this.

As far as my neighbor's kid (who was from a "good" family), he got himself into it but it doesn't make it any less sad for the parents who raised him.

Good morning everyone! I've got the day off so I'm spending it here! I've got a question for all of the veteran trial watchers.... Has there been a trial where the defendant's parents or family that hasn't thought that their "loved one" was innocent? Just courious!

Mike Peterson has a sister who believes him to be guilty of 2 murders. I think Scott Peterson's half sister there who wrote the book...ANN, I think both sisters are named!?!? could that be?

But yeah, I get your point.

Can't wait for this trial.

kindee
06-04-2008, 12:21 PM
:6u8ky2o: Precisely skidding in... Trying to figure out when this trial is going to start.

IMO, the family of those presumed innocent until proven guilty must be going thru hell themselves. Can you imagine having to process the fact that your loved one did something so horrific? I can't, but have neighbors who has had to do that with their son who is in jail for 20 years. It's so sad for the parents.

:mornincoffee:

Not to mention...usually the victim(s) are family members themselves.

COURTROOM UPDATES - 6/4/08

posted at 1:26 p.m.: Neil Entwistle's lawyer said comments by jurors such as "fry him" prove that a fair trial is impossible.
Elliot Weinstein addressed the media after Judge Diane Kottmyer called for the lunch break.
"There is no possibility - no possibility at all - Neil Entwistle can get a fair trial," Weinstein said.
Weinstein also said the overheard comments of "fry him" and "send him away" from one juror and another juror overhearing others say "that's the guy who killed his family" are proof the jury is biased.
He also said Kottmyer should have allowed his motion to question other potential jurors about those comments.

posted at 12:30 p.m.: A potential juror told Judge Diane Kottmyer that other potential jurors said "fry him," and "send him away" while waiting in line before the start of the Neil Entwistle trial on Monday.
Lawyer Elliot Weinstein immediately moved for the suspension of the jury selection process because there "is an impermissably infected pool of jurors."
Kottmyer denied the motion.

I can't believe we're only at jury selection - mind you, I don't know why I say that, because I was a witness last year at Crown Court, and the case got adjourned three times, and for all three, they didn't see a single witness! Fyi the accused killed himself in prison pretty much a year to the day after he was arrested, so we never got our day in court! He was evil, that's all I need to say!

Thanks QB - so I guess the answer to my question is not a lot! It's ironic that he is at Middlesex - since he is from my neck of the woods, and I live in Middlesex!

He was evil, that's all I need to say!

yes, these delays are ridiculous! i think neil's has been continued 4 times!
