I just finished reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns," Nothing surprises me. IMHO, every woman in America (the world) should memorize every page of this book!

I'm still reeling from the knowledge a woman raped by 7 men would need a pardon for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

I think it's worse than that - she needed a pardon for the horrible crime of being around a man. It wasn't the rape - pressing charges for the rape meant she had to admit to having been around a man.

Catholic Church used to teach that a boy and girl being alone with each other was an "occasion of sin."

This needed to be confessed and forgiven by a priest.

It is outrageous that this young lady would have to be pardoned for anything. She did no wrong.

TIA, this is a clear case of a victim of circumstance.

The crime was being alone with a man, other than her husband.

Thank God. I really don't know how she could have survived 200 lashes.

Why bring up irrelevent points that have nothing to do with today's evil religion based Islamic governments that hang teenagers for being homosexuals and gives lashes to rape victims...jeeeez. :nonono:

I'm as appalled as you over the actions of that government (although I'd never call ANY religion "evil") but why shouldn't she make such a comment. All she's doing is point out that different groups all over the world have different sets of standards. It's just Sociology 101.

I don't know how she could have taken 200 lashes, either, annalyzer. I read somewhere that (IIRC) somewhere between 60-75 were fatal. (or maybe that was the point?):z0tdntknw:
