I agree that KellBell's theory is a good one. But it is also an excellent point that if an adult is firm on the idea of commiting suicide, why drag others into it? Go off into the woods and off yourself (but leave a note so people will know what a coward you are).

I think it is good the Prosecution is covering all its bases, but the defense strategy may backfire if they keep hammering the victims.

I think it was all pride and either Rachel found out about the financial or sexual stuff and he didn't want anyone to find out. Or that he didn't want to commit suicide and leave behind a wife and child to suffer. In his mind he might have thought it was better for them to just die rather than go through the pain and suffering of the financial strain or his suicide. Who knows. He was obviously very twisted and distraught and certainly looking for an easy way out.
