I am shutting down the site until I can find what is happening....

I am sorry, we are not sending out the emails or the pms...

I hope this gets resovled quickly, Harlett. I am so sorry it has to come to this. Or is this an old post and the issue was resolved.

Ok, a few minutes ago, the site was "closed". Or at least that is what the screen said. Then I got yet another email from the hacker and the site was back up again. WTH?

We might also consider changing our e-mails. But, keep the e-mail address to where the hacker sent his/her lovely e-mails. That way they only have that e-mail address and not your new one. Just a thought. Not even sure if it will be necessary.

I don't think being on the site is the problem. The problem is that someone has way to much time on their hands and was able to get our e-mails we used when we signed up here at HFTM.

Maybe we are getting a little too close to exposing someone's guilt in one of the cases.

I would hope that all you have to do is change your password with yahoo. If you feel more comfortable change your email here with a throw away account with yahoo;etc.

Stupid me...I signed up using my real email addy, not a throw away addy so I can't toss it. How can I rectify that situation? If I delete my account will it erase my email addy from the records? Can I sign up again using a throw away email addy?

Everyone can go in and just make up an email account once you have signed up and are activated... it won't check it at all. Just make sure you hit save..

you can use example.. 553dkkkke@yahoo.com and it will take it...

The only problem is if you lose your password you will need to send us an email through the contact us at the bottom of the board

Don't let the bastards wear you down. You have the entire site community behind you 100%. Frustrating as it is, we need to find a way to stop this idiot and not let him win. I actually saved the e-mails he sent if you need them for anything. I also googled the email he sent from which was all arabic forums. Some pretty messed up crap. Of course I had to translate everything so I'm not sure if some things were lost in translation but it was still pretty messed up.

For all the good this site does with the families we need to pull together. You do what you need to do and let me know if theres anything I can do.

What an ass to do this sh!t. Ahh well it happened numerous times on the Lunsford board so nothing new.

i know the franciscos... this is one reason i joined this board. the hacker emailed me. i changed my password to yahoo and alerted yahoo too.

I have experienced a mass email from a different site where the mass email came from the domain of gmail.

I'm NOT saying that is what happened here. Admin will have to confirm.

If you haven't already deleted the messages, you can mark them as spam in yahoo and you will never receive email from that hacker address again. That's what I did.

For what it is worth, I have a yahoo email addy and I am not changing it and I'm not changing my email address on file here, either.

I never open mail if I don't recognize the address or the domain.

I've received mass email from other sites, too. They aren't always from admin. Sometimes site owners allow members to perform mass mailouts or buddy lists and allow them to edit the mail out list for their own purposes. In that case, there would be another domain name.

Never for a second did it cross my mind that you were sending out the emails.
Who ever is doing this needs to have their computer taken away and they need to get a new hobby.
Isnt there a way to trace the emails back to who ever is doing this? Just a thought.

Isn't there any laws about this kind of problem. I would hope if someone is doing this they would get caught and prosecuted. My husband and I were talking about this and he told me that whoever does this kind of thing either is very angry or does this just because they can. What a sad life for someone who has nothing to do but hack into sites and create problems. I think I am going to do some checking on the laws with regards to internet.

Did anyone else get a private message before the site shut down? I got one from someone by the name of James. The person had never posted on the site and was telling me he was new and asking me whats up. I replied back to him welcoming him to the site.

You have made this a wonderful website for many of us to post our opinions, hang out with our internet friends, and for families who NEED help in getting the word out there about their missing loved ones.

If something that was beyond your control has members leaving, I honestly believe that in time, they will be back. I believe that the only thing that had them leave was fear, but in time they will learn to trust again, and they will be back.

Harlett.....I know you and I did not start off on the right path, and I have apologized to you many times, and I wanted to say how sincere those aplogies are.....staight from the heart.

You have created a wonderful messageboard filled with love, and dedication towards people who are missing their family members, and friends. You have also managed to create a board where people can express themselves without being called nasty names or any of the ugliness that can occur on other messageboards.

Please know that everyday this messageboard is open due to dedicated mods and admins and you, Harlett, and free of charge, is another day friends and family can come here to talk about their missing loved ones, which can be so theraputic and a godsend for them.

I received several e-mails and four PMs. One of the e-mails threatened to destroy the site unless I responded to their link. I changed my spam settings and didn't receive anything else that I know of.

I was panicky about losing touch with all of you wonderful people, and so upset that anyone could destroy a wonderful site that does so much good for so many victims and their families.

Some of the ugly, mean-spirited messages posted here were also very upsetting. A few of those were so hateful that I even wondered if that person could have been involved in the hacker's decision to attack this site.

I pretty much got 4/5 emails. Same thing as everyone else. 1 pm. From James. Also left a couple of different email addys one of which I looked up in yahoo and it went to some arabic site. He also goes by star33 according to some of the posts from yesterday and the site I found was alot of star33 crap.
Some kid with way too much time. As I said b4, Don't let the basta*** wear ya down. Thats exactly what they want.

well i saved the emails and all the threats and addresses that the pig sent me; i tried to report him to some stupid online place, but that place was run by bots not people. i didnt want to log on to the site because i knew that you'd been hacked, and my password here [at the time] was the same as my password at my email. and i wasnt sure whether or not he'd be able to get my password...i know that he had shut down your page with some scrolling Arabic text about "in your system, i am admin" and some more garbage. that is when i knew you were in trouble. but since you deleted me on myspace, i had no way of contacting you, and i was trying to contact you all day that day... i got 4 or 5 emails from him which, as i said, i saved and will be more than happy to forward on to whomever if they need them. the emails cannot hurt you or your computer unless they have an attachment and you open it, or if you go to one of the sites in them which i never did as tempting as that might be. im glad you got the site back up and running. hackers are stupid malicious pigs who get bored and have nothing better to do other than mess up other peoples stuff for no good reason....oh he also left his yahoo i.m. address in there i think because he said "add me".

Weird. I hadn't been online since Saturday, so I had no idea this was going on. I got five e-mails but no PMs. I used one of my IP provided e-mails for here, so I'm not going to change anything. I have excellent virus protection etc... so I'm not worried about it.

It's just some A-hole doing it because they can.

Should've been around EZ board a few years ago. A disgruntled ex employee (so I was told) wiped out almost everything. We hadn't backed up the current season but we did have info backed up before that. We lost minimal compared to what a lot of boards did.
