Police seek fresh leads on missing woman

CHAMBERSBURG -- June 18, 2008 -- Three weeks after a 65-year-old Chambersburg woman was reported missing to police, detectives are looking for new information.

"We need the public's help at this point," said Chambersburg Police Det. Sgt. Dianne Kelso.

Liane Burget left her home on May 25 in a green 2002 Kia Rio sedan and has not been heard from since. Kelso said that that there is not any indication of foul play in the disappearance and that the department has had contact with multiple family members and friends in the hopes of determining a location. Burget has battled depression in the past, but Kelso said that she it's not clear whether the disappearance is related.

Burget's information and the make, model and registration plate number on her vehicle have been entered in the National Crime Information Center database and police have been tracking her banking information. Last week police received a tip that Burget might be in the Burnt Cabins area, but determined the person seen was not her.

The vehicle has Pennsylvania registration EPW-5682.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 264-4131.

"We're not at a dead end. We just need the leads to come in to help us track where she might be," Kelso said.

No mention of dementia or anything medical except depression in the past but this is likely another one who lost their way and hope that she is found soon. Safe. :1222423:

Woman found dead in Franklin County Thursday

By Staff Reports June 27, 2008

Last updated: Friday, June 27, 2008 8:30 AM EDT
A decomposing body found Thursday in a Greene Township farm field may be the remains of a Chambersburg woman reported missing May 25.

State police at Chambersburg say the female body found Thursday evening may be that of Liane D. Burget, 65, who was reported missing by her family a month ago.

The body has yet to be positively identified, and a cause of death has not been established yet, Trp. Jeffrey Bopp said Friday morning.

Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner and Borough of Chambersburg police are assisting in the death investigation.

Police say the car was spotted by a farmer checking his fields, and he recognized the vehicle as the car linked to Burget’s disappearance.

The farmer called state police and the body was found in a subsequent search, Bopp says.

The field is on the east side of Route 11 just south of Route 997 in Greenvillage.

Burget was reported by a family member to have left her home on May 25 in a green 2002 Kia Rio bearing Pennsylvania registration EPW 5682.

Body of woman is found in Greene Township field

GREENVILLAGE, Pa. - The body of a woman was discovered Thursday night in a Greene Township field, and Pennsylvania State Police and the Franklin County Coroner's Office are investigating whether it is that of a Chambersburg, Pa., woman reported missing in May.

The body was discovered at about 9 p.m. in a farm field near the intersection of U.S. 11 and Pa. 997, police said. Also found nearby was a green 2002 Kia Rio that was last known to have been driven by Liane Burget, 65, of Chambersburg, police said.

The woman was unidentified and the cause of death was not known due to the condition of the body, police said.

Burget was reported missing to the Chambersburg Police Department on May 27. She was last seen May 25, according to borough police, who are assisting with the investigation.

An autopsy on the body will be performed this morning at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa., Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. An effort will also be made to identify the body through dental records, he said.

Body identified as missing Pa. woman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A body found Thursday night in an abandoned farm building in Greene Township, Pa., has been identified from dental records as that of Liane D. Burget, a Chambersburg woman reported missing in May, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said Saturday.

Conner said an autopsy performed Saturday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa., revealed no signs of trauma or foul play. Burget’s date of death is believed to have been on or about May 26, Conner said.

A determination of the cause and manner of Burget’s death is pending further investigation by Conner’s office and Pennsylvania State Police, he said.

Burget, 65, last was seen May 25 and was driving a 2002 Kia Rio, according to the Chambersburg Police Department, which initiated the investigation. The car was found Thursday about 9 p.m. by a farmer on an overgrown farm lane bordered by trees off the 5000 block of Philadelphia Avenue, Conner said.

The farmer called state police and a trooper discovered the badly decomposed body in the farm building, Conner said. Where the car was found could not be seen from the road, he said.

The identification was made by Dr. William E. Black, a dentist and deputy coroner, Conner said.
