Missing airport cat flown home business class

By Sarah Neville

Friday June 27 2008

THE owner of the cat that was missing at Dublin Airport for 16 days has been given a business class seat to fly to his new house with the animal.

Swiss Air offered the free flights to pet owner Shane Corrigan who was distraught when the family cat Tigger escaped at the airport. The company has also said it will cover the bill for the pet detective who Mr Corrigan employed to find the tabby.

On June 4 the cat was due to be flown to Switzerland where he was going to be collected by Shane's wife Mara and brought to their new home in Germany.

Now nearly a month later the family, including 21-month-old Eva will be reunited this evening with their cat.

Mr Corrigan flew to Switzerland this morning with rescued Tigger in tow and the pair will then make their way to their new home in Germany.

The cat went missing while being boarded on to a Swiss Air flight to Zurich and his Blackrock family who were moving house at the time were desperate to find him.

They called in the help of Pet Detective Robert Kenny who described it as "the most unusual case I've dealt with in two years". His team spent a total of 120 hours searching for the missing animal and eventually he was found near a derelict house outside the grounds of the airport.

Tabby cat Tigger was returned to his owner on Thursday June 19.

The family were over the moon to hear that Tigger was found safe and sound.

"We are all speechless with thanks. Tigger is in good health and has a small temperature," said Mr Corrigan.

"Mara was in tears when told Tigger was safe. We cannot thank Robert enough for bringing Tigger back," he continued.

But despite the family's relief they didn't know how they would get Tigger to Germany safely until Swiss Air stepped in with the offer of free flights.

Usually if a pet isn't found in the first few days then there is very little chance of getting them back but Tigger's case was exceptional when he was discovered 16 days later.

"One of my crew Grace Fletcher worked on the case day and night," said the pet detective. Progress in the search was slow and difficult because of the airport location and the unpredictability of a displaced cat.
