Pasco woman searching for daughter
By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

http://i27.tinypic.com/xaunnn.jpg
Donna Garcia's daughter, Tiairra, 19, has been missing since Sunday. Garcia, seen here in her daughter's room, says she and Tiairra share a close relationship and that it is uncharacteristic for her to not call home. See complete story on this site.

Donna Garcia was visibly upset as she sat on her daughter's bed wondering where the 19-year-old has been for the past four days.

The Pasco woman last saw Tiairra Garcia on Sunday night when the young woman left to meet her boyfriend and his friend.

She never returned to her east Pasco home. She didn't show up for her Monday morning shift at McDonald's and she hasn't called.

"No one's heard from her," Donna Garcia said Thursday. "She usually calls me all the time. She calls me or she comes home."

Garcia's called all her daughter's friends, tried to track down her boyfriend and posted fliers with Tiairra's picture and description around town.

She reported her missing to Pasco police, but fears the worst.

"I'm worried about my daughter," she said. "Something's not right."

Pasco police detectives are actively investigating her disappearance, Capt. Jim Raymond said.

"Ms. Garcia has not attempted to make contact with family or friends since leaving (Sunday) evening," Raymond said. "All of her ties to family and friends is here in the community.

"Tiairra has never been missing before and has no reasons to be now."

Garcia is 5-foot-7, weighs about 170 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a brown dress, black leggings and high heels.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pasco police at 545-3484 or 545-3421.

Garcia said she called her daughter's boyfriend Monday after learning Tiairra didn't show up for work. She said he told her that they had gotten into a fight Sunday night and that she got out of a van near the Les Schwab ire center on Court Street and started walking.

He said he didn't see her after that, she said.

"It just doesn't add up," Garcia said. "I think she would have called one of her friends to come and pick her up. If that would have happened, I know she would have come home."

Garcia's phone has been ringing constantly with friends and family calling to see if Tiairra has returned home or if there's any new information about what happened. Rumors are circulating around town, Garcia said, but she doesn't know what to believe.

"I don't know what to say or think," Garcia said as she wiped away tears. "I hope she's OK. I just want my daughter home. I just want to find her."

Pasco police continue search for missing teen

Pasco Police Department on Sunday continued searching for clues to the disappearance of a teenage woman.

Tiairra Garcia, 19, has been missing since the evening of June 22, when she left to meet her boyfriend and his friend.

Police searched multiple locations over the weekend, but hadn't found her by late Sunday, Sgt. Mike Monroe said.

About four police cars and an evidence trailer were in front of a home on Elm Street, near Lewis Street, about 4 p.m. Sunday.

"It's just all part of that continuing investigation," Monroe said. "That was one of the addresses that came up."

Garcia's mother, Donna Garcia, called her daughter's friends, tried to track down her boyfriend and posted fliers with Tiairra's picture and description in hopes of finding her.

Witnesses Saw Missing Woman in Pasco The Night Of Her Disappearance

Posted: July 8, 2008 08:10 PM

Updated: July 8, 2008 09:14 PM

PASCO, Wash.-- A Pasco mother continues to struggle with her daughter's disappearance, while police continue to follow leads to find her.

"We haven't found her, she hasn't returned home, that is obviously very suspicious," said Captain Jim Raymond, from the Pasco Police Department.

Tiairra Garcia has been missing since June 22nd. On that night her mother says Garcia's boyfriend and a friend of his picked her up from her house in Pasco.

We know now they went to Joey's 1983 Restaurant and Lounge on Court Street.

Staff at the restaurant told us Marnicus Lockhard and Ashone Hollinquest were at the restaurant that night. Police are looking for the men in connection with the woman's disappearance.

"At this point is doesn't appear there's going to be a good outcome with finding her," said Raymond.

Staff at Joey's didn't want to go on camera because of fear of retaliation. They tell us the night of the incident Lockhard, attacked another woman inside the restaurant.

They say he's known for his aggressive behavior and usually carries a gun with him. Police say Lockhard is a convicted felon and has multiple warrants for drug trafficking.

"You know he has some criminal tendencies in his background obviously, so you know some of the rumors on the street is that he is a person to be fearful of," said Raymond.

Police say when people go missing, they usually hear from them within a few days. But this time they've had no luck.

"In this instance there's been no contact from Miss Garcia at all, to her family or to any of her friends in the area," said Raymond.

Pasco Woman Missing For 30 Days. Police Think She Could Be Dead
Updated: July 23, 2008 01:56 PM EDT
PASCO, Wash.-- Thirty days have gone by and still no contact from Tiairra Garcia. The 19-year old Pasco woman went missing last month.

Her mother puts her feelings in three words.

"Angry, scared, sad," said Donna Garcia, Tiairra's mother.

Donna Garcia has set up a shrine at her house. Small but full of hope.

"It's just candles, lighting candles for her to find her way home," said Garcia.

But finding it's way to police are more leads on this case. Police are looking for Marnicus Lockhard and Ashone Hollinquest. Both men were last seen with Garcia on the night she went missing.

"We believe that both these persons of interest have fled the area," said Captain Jim Raymond, from the Pasco Police Department.

A friend of the young woman has been trying to raise money for her reward, and is hoping to see her again.

"I'm hoping to get people to realize that this ain't no joke, this is a missing person, we need to find her," said Guillermo Cardenas, one of Tiairra's friends.

Police say with no word from Garcia in a month, it's possible she could be dead.

"There's a strong possibility that Tiairra is deceased and that for lack of a better term, has been dumped or buried or concealed," said Raymond.

Still they're asking anyone with information to speak up.

"Call us if they see anything that is suspicious as far as debris that doesn't belong in a field, you know odors that might be in the air," said Raymond.

Garcia may be missing, but she's present in the hearts of many.

"There are people waiting for her to come back home," said Cardenas.

Pasco family says hope fading to find missing 19-year-old
By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer
Purple and white curtains hang in the window of Tiairra Jo Garcia's bedroom.

Her high heel shoes are lined up neatly along the wall and CDs are stacked near an orange jewelry box.

Nothing has changed in the 19-year-old's room since she last left it a month ago -- except that her bed is now made.

Donna Garcia hopes her daughter will return to her east Pasco home to sleep in that bed again, but hope fades with each day that passes without word from Tiairra.

"A mother's always in denial," Garcia said. "In reality, I think that she's gone, but I just don't want to believe it until I see her."

Tiairra Garcia has been missing since June 22 when she left home for a night out with her boyfriend, Marnicus Antonio Lockhard, 29, and his friend, Ashone Mikah Hollinquest, 22.

Her mother realized she was missing the next day when she got a call telling her Tiairra hadn't shown up for her shift at McDonald's.

She never returned home. She never called. She never picked up her paycheck.

Garcia hasn't been seen or heard from since she was last seen late June 22 leaving Joey's Restaurant & Bar in the 1800 block of Court Street with Lockhard and Hollinquest, Pasco police Capt. Jim Raymond said.

Police suspect foul play and have called Lockhard and Hollinquest "persons of interest" in Garica's disappearance.

They've tracked tips and searched around town, but so far nothing's turned up. Investigators believe Garcia has been killed and her body likely buried or covered by debris.

"We've been focusing (our search) in the east side of Pasco and the fields over there, but it's like hunting for a needle in a haystack," Raymond said. "We believe there's people out there who know where she's been dumped."

Investigators now would like people who are out and about to report any suspicious odors or anything that looks peculiar. Vacant lots or areas along the river banks could be possible dumping sites, Raymond said.

"We want people to look out in fields for any oddities to report," he said. "There will be lots of people out this week ... roaming around. We're in hopes that somewhere we might find something."

Pasco police also are looking for Lockhard and Hollinquest, but believe they fled the area.

Last month, Donna Garcia said she talked to Lockhard right after she realized her daughter didn't show up for work. He told her they had gotten into a fight the night before and that Tiairra got out of a van near Les Schwab tire center on Court Street and started walking, Donna Garcia said.

He said he didn't see her after that, she said. Donna Garcia was unable to get Lockhard on the phone again.

Both Lockhard and Hollinquest have been featured in wanted bulletins by Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers.

Lockhard, who also is known by the name Jerome Coleman and "Pooh," is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a heart with a cross on his left forearm.

He is wanted on drug charges -- four counts of delivering cocaine -- and failing to appear in court for an unlawful firearm possession charge.

Hollinquest is 5-foot-9, 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a cross on his right arm and has a warrant for his arrest from Benton County on a first-degree theft charge.

Anyone with information about the men or Tiairra Garcia's disappearance is asked to call Pasco police at 545-3484 or 545-3421.

Tips can also be made through Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers at 586-8477 or www.tricitiescrimestoppers.org.

Crime Stoppers pays a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that results in a felony arrest.

Concepcion Garcia also is offering a reward for information about her little sister. The 29-year-old, who lives in Billings, Mont., said she's putting $3,000 into a reward fund and Tiairra's friends also have held two car washes to raise reward money.

The Tiairra Garcia Reward Fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank.

"People are still talking. I'm hoping that somebody's going to say something and have a conscience," Concepcion Garcia said. "This is someone's daughter. This is someone's sister. This is a member of somebody's family that's missing.

"My mom needs closure. She wants to know what happened and why her daughter."

Rumors circulated shortly after Tiairra went missing, but have slowed recently. Donna Garcia said she heard her daughter was taken to Yakima.

"I don't believe she's here (in the Tri-Cities)," she said. "People need to be looking for things that don't look right."

Tiairra Garcia is 5-foot-7, weighs about 170 pounds, and has brown eyes and wavy, shoulder-length brown hair. She was last seen wearing a brown dress, black leggings and high heels.

"The whole family's still praying for a miracle, but we're kind of preparing for the worst," Concepcion Garcia said.

UPDATE: Tiairra Garcia, Cops Nab 'Persons of Interest'
YouNewsTV™Story Published: Jul 31, 2008 at 8:26 AM PDT
By Mike Crispino

Cops wanted to catch up with the two men for so long. Ever since 19 year old Tiairra Garcia went missing, her face and their mug shots have been in the collective mind of the Pasco Police Department.
Last week detectives made it clear: this case is personal.

Detective Jamie Raebel explained, "My family gets the brunt of it. I feel guilty if I take a day off because you know the family is missing their loved one."

Cops made the tough call to go public with news, they think Tiairra is dead.

Action News reporter Molly Kelleher pointed out a field in east Pasco. Police expect to find her in a shallow grave or field somewhere nearby.

Investigators think Ashone Hollinquest and Marnicus Lockhard know what happened. Both men are in custody.

They were caught by U.S. Marshals on the run, or at the very least avoiding questions from cops.

From talking to her, you can tell Donna Garcia doesn't have much fight left. She begged the media to pay attention to her daughter's disappearance the day she didn't come home. But that might've already been too late.

Lowe says "Theyy both will be brought before local courts and may decision extradition proceedings and at that stage, we'll know whether or not they'll be coming in a very short time frame or it might be a longer time frame up to 30 days or more."

Charges to be filed in missing Pasco teen case
Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer

Franklin County Prosecutor Steve Lowe plans to file charges today in the disappearance of Tiairra Jo Garcia of Pasco.

"It will involve more than two individuals and, at this time, it will not be homicide charges," he told the Herald. The charges are to be filed in Franklin County District Court.

Lowe plans to release more details at a morning news conference.

Garcia, 19, has been missing since June 22 when she was last seen leaving Joey's Restaurant & Bar with her boyfriend and his friend.

Pasco investigators suspect foul play. They believe Garcia has been killed and her body likely buried or covered by debris somewhere around the Tri-Cities.

Marnicus Antonio Lockhard, Ashone Mikah Hollinquest and Hollinquest's girlfriend, Andrea Rachelle Parr, were arrested last week after a nationwide manhunt.

Lockhard, who was Garcia's boyfriend, and Hollinquest had been named as "persons of interest" in the case.

All three had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody by U.S. marshals, with assistance from other police agencies.

Hollinquest and Parr were found July 29 at an apartment in Chandler, Ariz.

Lockhard was picked up just hours later at a home in Milwaukee.

"The arrest of these three individuals is one of the major factors in determining what charges are appropriate at this time," Lowe said.

According to Donna Garcia, her daughter left their east Pasco home June 22 to go out with Lockhard and Hollinquest.

She never returned, didn't show up for work the next morning and failed to pick up a paycheck.

Garcia told the Herald she called Lockhard after realizing her daughter was missing. He told her that the two had gotten into a fight that night and Tiairra got out of a van near the Les Schwab tire center on Court Street and started walking, her mother said.

Witnesses last saw Tiairra Garcia leaving the Court Street restaurant with the two men, according to police.

She is 5-foot-7, 170 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. When she left home that night, she was wearing a brown dress, black leggings and high heels.

Donna Garcia said her daughter was a good kid who "just got mixed up with the wrong person."

She wants answers and had hoped that the arrests would lead to a break in the case.

Parr, 26, reportedly traveled with Hollinquest from Washington to Arizona.

Hollinquest -- described by marshals as a "career criminal and documented gang member" -- was arrested on a Benton County warrant for the theft of a rental car found near Chicago. The 22-year-old man's status was not known Thursday.

Parr is accused of stealing a fire safe filled with jewelry from her parents' Pasco home, then pawning the contents for cash.

Parr's mother called police about the missing safe July 8, four days after her daughter came to stay with her because her Richland home had flooded, court documents said.

Parr left before police responded and wasn't seen again until her arrest in Arizona.

She has agreed to be extradited from Maricopa County. Lowe said his office is making travel arrangements and plans to pick her up within the next week.

Lockhard, 29, had Franklin County warrants for delivery of controlled substances and possessing a stolen gun.

Court documents show he allegedly sold chunks of crack cocaine to a confidential informant on four occasions between September and February.

Police also stopped him May 24 in his Chevrolet Caprice and found a pistol under the driver's seat, documents said. He reportedly was seen reaching under the seat once the officer shined his flashlight on Lockhard.

He also has a federal indictment on firearms charges and has been taken into federal custody, Lowe said.

Anyone with information about Tiairra Garcia is asked to call Pasco police at 545-3484 or 545-3421.

Tips also can be made through Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers at 586-8477 or www.tricitiescrimestoppers.org.

Kidnapping charges filed for missing Pasco woman

Associated Press - August 8, 2008 3:55 PM ET

PASCO, Wash. (AP) - The Franklin County prosecutor's office has filed kidnapping charges against four people in the disappearance of a 19-year-old Pasco woman.

Tiarra Jo Garcia has been missing since June 22.

The charges were filed Friday against Garcia's boyfriend Marnicus Lockhard, and three friends: Ashone Mikah Hollinquest, Andrea Rachelle Parr and Verla Spencer.

Police are treating Garcia's disappearance as a missing person case although officers fear she may have been killed.

Capt. Mike Aldridge says duct tape and bloodstained blankets with her DNA have been recovered.

4 face kidnap charges in disappearance of Pasco teen

Aug. 9--Four people were charged with kidnapping Friday in the disappearance of a 19-year-old Pasco woman who has been missing for nearly seven weeks.

Pasco police continue to work Tiairra Jo Garcia's disappearance as a missing persons case, but investigators have said they believe she's been killed and her body likely buried or covered by debris.

Court documents filed in Franklin County District Court by Prosecutor Steve Lowe reveal details about the charges against Marnicus Antonio Lockhard, Ashone Mikah Hollinquest, Andrea Rachelle Parr and Verla Nicole Spencer.

Garcia has been missing since June 22.

Witnesses reported seeing two men drive up in a van to Spencer's home in the 1900 block of Parkview Boulevard before midnight that day.

The men "pulled what appeared to be a body from the van and carried it into the house," documents said.

The van, several blankets and a rug -- some stained with what appeared to be blood -- later were recovered.

"There was also Duck brand tape wrapped around the items giving the appearance that something had been wrapped inside them," documents said. "One of the blood stains on a recovered blanket matched Garcia's DNA profile."

Several weeks after Lockhard and Hollinquest left town, Lockhard called Garcia's mother and told her "that her daughter was dead, but claimed it was an accident for which Hollinquest was responsible," according to court documents.

Lockhard, 29, Hollinquest, 22, and Parr, 26, were arrested last week after a nationwide manhunt.

All three had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody by U.S. marshals, with assistance from other police agencies.

Hollinquest and Parr were found July 29 at an apartment in Chandler, Ariz. Lockhard was picked up hours later at a home in Milwaukee.

On Friday, Pasco police were in the process of locating and arresting Spencer, 29.

The four, charged with first-degree kidnapping, are accused of abducting Garcia between June 22 and July 30.

Bail was set at $250,000 each.

"This may not be the final charges with the case," Lowe said.

Others who may have assisted in Garcia's disappearance also could face charges, he said.

Detectives have followed leads up in the hundreds and continue to track any information that could lead to a break in the case.

Lowe said they have pieced together a "fairly decent timeline" of what occurred, but investigators still are asking for anyone who has information about Garcia to call Pasco police at 545-3484.

"Until we have conclusive evidence to the contrary, it will still be investigated as a missing persons case," Capt. Mike Aldridge said.

Garcia's family was notified Friday about the new developments.

Garcia's sister, Concepcion, said her biggest concern is "finding my sister."

"Obviously somebody knows where she's at," she said Friday while traveling from her home in Montana to Pasco. "My mom needs to find her daughter."

A large reward banner with Tiairra's photo hangs on the outside of the east Pasco home she shared with her mother.

White ribbons have been tied on the fence around the house and some flowers placed outside the fence.

Garcia's mother, Donna, is in the process of moving because "that house is hard to stay in with all the memories," Concepcion said.

"I pray that we find her," she said. "I pray that my mom can have closure."

Donna Garcia previously told the Herald that she last saw her daughter the night she left to go out with Lockhard, her boyfriend, and Hollinquest.

She never returned home, didn't show up for work the next morning and failed to pick up a paycheck.

Donna Garcia said she called Lockhard after realizing her daughter was missing. She says Lockhard told her that he and Tiairra got into a fight that night and she got out of a van near the Les Schwab tire center on Court Street and started walking.

Donna Garcia told police she had heard rumors that her daughter had been killed and that a van with a handicap-equipped lift gate was used to transport her, court documents said.

Police found witnesses who last saw Tiairra alive at Joey's restaurant on June 22. She was there with Lockhard and Hollinquest, but after Garcia wasn't allowed in the bar, she went outside and waited in a van, documents said.

Lockhard and Hollinquest stayed inside until about 10:40 p.m. when Lockhard was kicked out.

At 11:22 p.m., the van was involved in a hit-and-run collision in the 600 block of Bonneville Street. The badly damaged van then was driven up into the front yard of Spencer's home.

The driver knocked loudly on the front door asking for help, and Spencer eventually came out of the house, documents said.

Police arrived shortly after what appeared to be a body was carried into the house, but Spencer said she had no knowledge of the van or who had been driving it.

Between 6 and 7 a.m. June 23, Lockhard and Hollinquest went to Ronald Kinsey's home asking him to rent a car for them, court documents said.

He refused and the men left behind the van, several blankets and a rug stained with what appeared to be blood.

The blood matches Garcia's DNA profile, documents said.

Police also found Duck brand tape wrapped around the blankets and rug, and learned Spencer bought the tape at 3:18 a.m. June 22.

Spencer said Hollinquest asked her to buy the tape and drove her to Wal-Mart.

Parr turned out to be the owner of the Plymouth Voyager van. She told investigators that Hollinquest had borrowed the van June 22 and that she hadn't seen him again until he arrived at her hotel with Lockhard the next morning.

They told her they had been in a crash and told her to report the van as being stolen, which she did later that day, documents said.

She then rented a car for them so they could leave town.

The rental car was found abandoned July 2 outside Chicago.

A rag had been stuffed in the gas tank and it appeared someone tried to burn the vehicle to destroy the car and its contents, documents said.

The car was impounded by Chicago police, Lowe said.

Police Find Missing Woman's Blood In Evidence
Updated: Aug 8, 2008 09:30 PM CDT

PASCO, Wash.-- On Friday, four people were charged with first degree kidnapping in the case of Tiairra Garcia.

The 19-year-old woman has been missing since June 22nd. Pasco police have a mini van as evidence from that night.

Inside they found several blankets and a rug, with duct tape around them. That's where they found stains of Tiairra's blood.

Court documents say Marnicus Lockhard called Garcia's mother to tell her Tiairra was dead. He said it was an accident, and blamed it on Ashone Hollinquest.

Pasco police are still not calling the case a homicide.

"It's still a missing person's case at this point, until we have conclusive evidence to the contrary, it will remain a missing person's case," said Captain Mike Aldridge, with the Pasco Police Department.

Court documents also say Andrea Parr rented a second car for the two men. It was found weeks later near Chicago, and looked like someone tried to burn it.

Prosecutors say all three suspects arrested will be brought back to the Tri-Cities. Parr should be back sometime next week.

Prosecutors still haven't arrested 29-year-old Verla Spencer, who also faces kidnapping charges.

Tiairra Garcia: Two Months Without A Trace
Story Published: Aug 22, 2008 at 6:01 PM PDT

By Chelsea Kopta Video KENNEWICK -- Two months after Tiairra Garcia vanished, a community is still trying to track her down.

Pasco Police are focusing on leads. Problem is, they said, those leads are drying up.

Cops are still canvassing neighborhoods but have reeled back some too.

That's why Tiairra's mom said she's planning her own search party this weekend as well as a vigil to raise awareness.

Plus, Tiairra's friends ares sporting T-shirts at the fair, with her picture and numbers to call police with information.

"Somebody knows where she's at, somebody has to know where she's at and we're trying to find her," Guillermo Cardenas said, who grew up with Tiairra. "It's hard. It's really hard. Two months is a long time."

The four people accused of kidnapping Tiairra are in various stages of prosecution.

Ashone Hollinquest will be arraigned for her kidnapping in a couple weeks.

Another suspect, Marnicus Lockhard, still needs to be brought back to Franklin County. He's still in federal custody at a Wisconsin County Jail.

The two women accused of her kidnapping are in Franklin County jail.

Moving ahead with life hard for family of missing Pasco teen
By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

Life has taken another cruel twist for the mother of a missing Pasco woman who is feared dead.

Donna Garcia has spent the past two months looking for her 19-year-old daughter, Tiairra, who hasn't been seen since June 22.

A candlelight vigil for Tiairra is planned at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Volunteer Park in Pasco.

Meanwhile, Garcia and her husband, Parrish Calhoun, are struggling to find shelter and money for food.

"We're staying out of a hotel, but my money's ran out," Garcia said. "We're trying to come up with money to pay a day at a time. We don't have any food or anything like that either.

"It's been a struggle."

The couple are on limited incomes -- she gets Social Security, he just became eligible to receive some government assistance for medical reasons -- and had to move out of the Pasco home they shared with Tiairra.

It was too hard for Garcia to stay in the house. Plus, two roommates she had moved out and the couple couldn't afford the rent on the four-bedroom home.

They have been staying at the Tahitian Inn in Pasco since Aug. 5.

Garcia gets $675 a month from Social Security, but it cost $210 a week to stay at the motel. The first week was $230 with a deposit and that wiped her out. She used to get about $260 a month in food stamps, but she recently received a letter saying she'll only get $48 now.

Garcia thinks the drop is because officials are not counting Tiairra as her dependent any longer.

"I'm going to call them and ask them why it's only $48, but with everything else going on I haven't had a chance," she said. "My priority is trying to find my daughter."

Tiairra Jo Garcia last was seen when she went out with her boyfriend, Marnicus Antonio Lockhard, and his friend, Ashone Mikah Hollinquest. She never returned home, didn't show up for work the next morning and failed to pick up a paycheck.

Investigators believe Garcia's been killed and her body dumped somewhere.

Lockhard, Hollinquest and two women, Andrea Rachelle Parr and Verla Nicole Spencer, have been charged in Franklin County with kidnapping.

Shortly after her daughter went missing, Donna Garcia heard rumors that Tiairra had been killed, and she and Calhoun have been spending their time looking for her.

If they go past a field, Garcia says, "Tiairra might be there." So they stop and search, Calhoun said. They've searched swamps and kept an eye out on bodies of water.

They've gone to Yakima four times trying to find a place where Tiairra might have been dumped, but because they don't have a car, they have to rely on others to take them and have used what little money they have to help cover gas costs.

The couple didn't have anywhere to store their furniture, so they just sold what they had for whatever they could get. A reward fund had been established at a bank but it hasn't received many contributions.

Calhoun spent Friday going through the phone book calling places to try to get some help. A church did contribute enough money for the couple to stay in their room for three days, but those days already have passed.

Most of the churches or non-profit organizations Calhoun called couldn't help them, or at least not immediately.

The couple's not ruling out some of those options, but they need some help right now, they say.

If they go to a shelter, they'll have to be separated and Calhoun said he doesn't want to leave Garcia's side.

The couple will get government assistance checks again at the first of the month and they'll be able to make some other arrangements, but they're hurting now.

"I know everyone has their own life in the community, but we need some help," Calhoun said. "We need some real help.

"To go from a four-bedroom house with Tiairra, her and me and some roommates, to this. Nobody expects this to happen, but this is cruel."

The couple can be reached at 380-1552.

Tiairra Garcia's Mother Searches for her Body
YouNewsTV™Story Published: Aug 27, 2008 at 8:16 AM PDT
By Rudabeh Shahbazi

YAKIMA COUNTY-- Tiairra Garcia's family and friends spent the day searching for her remains. The 19-year-old disappeared more than two months ago. Police believe she is dead, but her body has yet to be found.

Tiairra's mother, Donna Garcia, accepts that this is now a recovery effort, no longer a rescue. She is taking every tip, any clue, and running with it.

"Someone told me she was here, so I came to check it out," she said, as she scoured an empty field.

"We don't know where to look, and it might be the farthest spot from her, but at least we're trying," said Tiairra's friend, Latanya Thomas.

The group of about ten left at dawn to comb the fields, marshes and composts of Yakima County, after Donna Garcia heard a rumor Tiairra's body had been dumped around there. They trekked through rain, mud and garbage, trying to get inside the mind of Tiairra's killer. They dug through mounds of compost, looking for any signs of a body.

"The whole time, we'd be like, OK, if we were in a hurry, where would we carry her?" said Ali Beltran, another friend of Tiairra's. "Would we carry her here, how would you do this? Would you go through a field? Kind of put yourself in their shoes and think like a criminal."

Four people have been arrested in connection with Tiairra's disappearance, including her boyfriend, Ashone Hollinquest. Tiairra's family is convinced other people were involved in her murder, but are not speaking out.

They got their hopes up a few times, when dirty clothes, shoes and sheets surfaced beneath the rubble. But each clue led nowhere.

"It's just frustrating, because there's not no closure at all," said Parrish Calhoun, who is dating Donna Garcia.

They aren't giving up. Donna Garcia says at this point, if anyone finds her Tiairra, it will be her.

"I've got to find her," she said. "I can't keep waiting and waiting. I don't want to wait years. I've got to find my daughter."

Young Woman Missing For Three Months. Police Put Her Search on Hold

Updated: Sep 16, 2008 10:47 PM EDT

PASCO, Wash.-- After almost three months missing, Pasco police say they're done searching for Tiairra Garcia.

Police have followed a number of leads and still haven't found her body. They've looked in several vacant fields in Pasco.

Verla Spencer lives just East of one of them. She's one of four people who were arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping of Tiairra Garcia.

Police say they've searched from North Franklin County all the way to the Yakima Valley, and also along the Columbia River. Garcia went missing on June 22nd.

Police say at one point they had about 20 to 30 people searching on foot, and other times they had a handful searching by plane.

"We've utilized airplanes and at one point we used a helicopter and a 4 wheel quad runner to search the wide open areas along the snake river," said Captain Jim Raymond, with the Pasco Police Department.

Even though some of the suspects were arrested in Arizona, and Wisconsin. Pasco police say they think the young woman's body is most likely somewhere in the Tri-Cities area.

Although the search for her body is at a standstill, the investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone to call with more information.

COURT: Hearings delayed for 2 charged in Pasco woman's disappearance

Oct. 2--Pasco Court hearings were delayed again today for two suspects charged in the disappearance of a 19-year Pasco woman, angering friends and family members in attendance.

"I'm just upset," Donna Garcia said after walking out of Franklin County District Court.

Garcia's daughter, Tiairra Jo Garcia, has been missing since June 22.

Four people -- Marnicus Lockhard, Ashone Hollinquest, Andrea Parr and Verla Spencer -- were charged in District Court nearly two months ago with kidnapping in connection with Garcia's disappearance.

Parr, 26, was in court today and agreed to postpone the bind-over hearing until Oct. 16. The special hearing will determine if the case will be moved to Superior Court or be dismissed.

Parr's bail, which had been set at $250,000, was also reduced to $20,000.

The bind-over hearing for Hollinquest, 29, was also delayed two weeks. Hollinquest and his attorney didn't appear in court.

Spencer's hearing is also set for Oct. 16. She was in court last week and agreed to the continuance.

Lockhard is in federal custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm in an unrelated case. He has not appeared in court on the kidnapping charge.

Richland man pleads innocent to robbing restaurant
Fri. October 10, 2008; Posted: 01:13 PM

Oct 10, 2008

A 37-year-old man is being held on $100,000 bail on charges he flashed a pellet gun to employees at a Richland restaurant, then made off with three bank bags from the safe.

Michael Anthony Shipman, of Richland, pleaded innocent Thursday in Benton County Superior Court to first-degree robbery and attempting to elude police.

Both charges include the aggravating factor that Shipman has committed multiple current offenses. His criminal history includes four juvenile felony convictions and 12 adult felony convictions, including two violent crimes, according to court records.

On Oct. 3, employees Colby Klages and Lisa Story were working in Henry's Restaurant when a man came through a back door, displayed a pistol and demanded money.

Story took Shipman -- later identified as the suspect -- into the office and handed him one bank bag from the safe, but he grabbed two more before leaving, court documents said.

While Story called 911 at 8:45 p.m., Klages followed Shipman out of the George Washington Way restaurant and saw him get into a tan Buick sedan, documents said. Klages then pointed out the car to Richland Officer Doug Doss, who arrived within 20 to 30 seconds of the call.

"The vehicle was driving away very fast and had its lights off," Deputy Prosecutor Terry Bloor wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

Sgt. Brian Ruegsegger saw the Buick hit a stop sign and a 1915 Model T Ford, which was parked in a hotel parking lot.

Shipman then abandoned the Buick and ran into an underground parking lot and up a flight of stairs leading to the front door of the Fluor Federal Services building, police said. He jumped over the walkway about 18 feet to the ground, injuring his back and ankle

Officer David Clark, who saw Shipman first get out of the Buick, confirmed that the injured man was the suspect based on his clothing, court documents said.

A search of the Buick turned up three bank bags with approximately the amount stolen from Henry's, along with a pellet gun which resembled a semi-automatic handgun, documents said.

Shipman refused to talk to police, but stated "that he would be in a prison for the rest of his life and that they had all they needed," Bloor wrote.

Shipman is scheduled for trial Dec. 1.

While Klages is a victim in the robbery, he also was in court Thursday to plead guilty to third-degree assault in an unrelated case.

Klages, 26, of Richland, was sentenced to two months in jail for resisting arrest by a Wal-Mart security officer Aug. 21 as he tried to steal a car stereo face plate from the store.

Court documents show that Klages was seen in the Richland store cutting open a car stereo box, removing the face plate frame and concealing it. After leaving without any attempt to pay, loss prevention officers approached Klages and asked him to come back inside.

Klages refused and scuffled with the two officers, elbowing one man three to four times and shoving the other, documents said.

He got away and left in a car, but one of the officers caught the license plate number and called it in to police.

Klages has until Oct. 24 to start serving his sentence. His history also includes a drug possession and a first-degree theft.

A convicted child molester faces a Dec. 8 trial on allegations he moved back to the Tri-Cities but never registered his address with law enforcement per court orders.

Carlos Varela-Villa, 31, caught the attention of Benton County and federal officials because he was deported after the 1996 felony conviction.

Once living back in Kennewick, he reportedly used a fake name to buy at least five vehicles and had his mail diverted to a Pasco home, court documents said.

Varela-Villa lives in Kennewick on North Williams Street.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement notified the Tri-Cities Violent Gang Task Force of Varela-Villa's current address in early September.

Two weeks later, a search of his house turned up vehicle title paperwork showing he'd used the name Carlos Ramiro-Salazar to buy the vehicles, court documents said. Officials also found an identification card and Social Security number showing Varela-Villa's correct name, and a 9 mm Beretta pistol, documents said.

As a result of Varela-Villa's conviction out of Franklin County, he must keep the sheriff's office up-to-date on his current address and is not allowed to own or possess a gun.

His bail is set at $100,000, but he also has an ICE hold.

A 22-year-old man suspected of stealing a rental car so he and some friends could skip town after the disappearance of a Pasco woman agreed to delay his trial.

Ashone Mikah Hollinquest waived his right to a speedy trial. He is now set to face a jury Dec. 1.

Hollinquest is charged with first-degree theft.

Prosecutors allege he rented a 2009 Toyota Corolla from Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Richland on June 23, but didn't return it two days later per the agreement.

The car, which was valued at about $20,000, was found abandoned and burned July 2 outside Chicago.

Hollinquest also is charged in Franklin County with first-degree kidnapping regarding Tiairra Jo Garcia.

The 19-year-old woman was last seen with Hollinquest and her boyfriend, Marnicus Antonio Lockhard, on June 22. She never returned home and is believed dead.

Suspect in case OKs hearing postponement
By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

A 19-year-old Pasco woman will have been missing for nearly five months before those accused of involvement in her disappearance are in court again.

One suspect, Andrea Parr, was in Franklin County District Court on Thursday for a special hearing to determine if her case will be moved to Superior Court or be dismissed.

Parr, 26, agreed to postpone her hearing to Nov. 20.

In August, Parr and three others -- Verla Spencer, Ashone Hollinquest and Marnicus Lockhard -- were charged with kidnapping in connection with Tiairra Jo Garcia's disappearance.

Garcia has been missing since June 22. Investigators believe she was killed and her body buried or covered with debris.

The hearing for Spencer, who didn't show up for court Thursday, also was continued to Nov. 20.

Hollinquest's hearing was delayed a week because he wasn't transferred to the Franklin County jail from the Benton County jail.

Lockhard, Garcia's boyfriend at the time she disappeared, has yet to appear on the kidnapping charge. He is in federal custody on a weapons offense in an unrelated case.

The night Garcia went missing, witnesses reportedly saw Lockhard and Hollinquest park a van outside a Pasco home and carry what looked like a body from the van to the house, according to court documents.

Earlier that night, Garcia also was seen waiting in the van when she was not allowed to enter the bar at Joey's Restaurant & Bar.

Court documents said police later found several blankets, duct tape and a rug stained with Garcia's blood in the van.

Parr, the van's owner, told investigators Hollinquest had borrowed the van and she didn't see him again until he arrived at her hotel with Lockhard the next morning.

A 22-year-old man suspected of helping kidnap a missing Pasco woman five months ago pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing a rental car to skip town.

Ashone Mikah Hollinquest was sentenced in Benton County Superior Court to two months in jail for first-degree theft.

In his plea statement, he said, "I rented a 2009 Toyota Corolla from Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Richland, WA, and did not return it on time."

Hollinquest, of Pasco, still faces a first-degree kidnapping charge in Franklin County District Court. He is one of four people charged in connection with the disappearance of Tiairra Jo Garcia, who was last seen June 22.

A special hearing to determine if that case will be moved to Superior Court or be dismissed was postponed Thursday to Jan. 8.

Hollinquest, along with Andrea Parr and Verla Spencer, all agreed to the delay while Franklin County prosecutors and defense attorneys are awaiting further investigation.

Marnicus Lockhard, also charged with kidnapping, is first dealing with a federal weapons offense in an unrelated case.

Investigators believe Garcia, 19, was killed and her body buried or covered with debris. She has not been seen since she went out with Lockhard, her boyfriend, and his friend Hollinquest.

Garcia's mother became suspicious when her daughter never returned home, didn't show up for work the next morning and failed to pick up a paycheck.

Witnesses last saw Garcia at Joey's Restaurant & Bar with the two men. She wasn't allowed into the bar so she waited outside in a van until the men left at 10:40 p.m.

After the van was badly damaged in a hit-and-run collision later that night, it was driven into the front yard of Spencer's Parkview home, police said. Witnesses reported seeing Lockhard and Hollinquest carry what looked like a body from the van to the house.

Police later found several blankets, duct tape and a rug stained with Garcia's blood in the van.

On June 23, Parr rented a 2009 Toyota Corolla from Enterprise for her boyfriend, Hollinquest, according to court documents.

The rental was for two days but was never returned.

Parr reportedly told police that Hollinquest gave her money to rent the car and then took it without her permission.

Hollinquest and Lockhard used the Toyota to leave town, police said. The car, which was valued at about $20,000, was found abandoned and burned July 2 outside Chicago.

Court documents said a rag had been stuffed in the gas tank in an attempt to destroy the car and its contents. The car was impounded by Chicago police.

Hollinquest, Lockhard and Parr were arrested in late July after a nationwide manhunt. They had outstanding warrants on separate cases.

Hollinquest's criminal history includes a felony conviction for possession of a prescription drug. He was ordered to pay $8,241.64 to Enterprise.

This must be such torture for Tiarra's mother and family. Sounds like a pretty bad bunch she was running around with. I know I would not want to think my daughter was dead if she was missing. I also think all the delays in the court proceedings has got to be so hard.
I pray that this family has the fortitude to deal with this while justice tries to convict those responsible.
My heart goes out to this family.

Prosecutor Files Charges Of Manslaughter On Tiarra Garcia Case in Pasco

Posted: March 24, 2009 09:58 PM
Updated: March 24, 2009 09:58 PM

PASCO, Wash.-- More than 9 months after her disappearance, the Franklin County Prosecutor says there's enough evidence to declare 19-year-old Tiarra Garcia dead.
Garcia's body has yet to be found. Pasco Police believe her body was dumped in the area of Mount Rainier National Park.
On Tuesday the Franklin County Prosecutor, Steve Lowe, filed charges of manslaughter in the first degree against 31-year-old Marnicus Lockhard. Lockhard also faces charges of first degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Lockhard was first arrested in July of 2008 in Milwaukee. He was then charged with first degree kidnapping.
Three other people involved with the case were charged with kidnapping: Ashone Hollinquest, Verla Spencer, and Andrea Parr.

Pasco teen believed shot, body dumped

Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer
Published: 03/25/09 1:38 am

When Marnicus Lockhard accidentally shot his girlfriend last June, he ignored her injuries and let the 19-year-old die, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The next day, he told Tiairra Jo Garcia's concerned mother that he'd dropped the teen off the night before after the two had a fight. Instead, police say, Lockhard drove her body to Mount Rainier National Park near Enumclaw and dumped it in a remote area of the forest.
The Pasco girl has been presumed dead since her June 22 disappearance.
On Tuesday, Franklin County Prosecutor Steve Lowe said it was time to move forward with the case even though police have yet to find Garcia's body.
"Unfortunately, I told the family what I think they expected yesterday, that we believe Tiairra Garcia is no longer alive," Lowe said during a news conference in the Franklin County Courthouse.
Lockhard, 30, was charged in Franklin County Superior Court with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
"At this point we believe Mr. Lockhard is solely responsible. His statements are self-serving," said Lowe, referring to conversations Lockhard had with Donna Garcia in the weeks after her daughter's disappearance.
Lockhard has not talked to police or prosecutors, but he reportedly told Donna Garcia the teen's death "was an accident for which (his buddy Ashone) Hollinquest was responsible," court documents said.
Hollinquest has not been charged in the death, though Lowe said there is always the possibility of adding charges.
Lockhard remains charged in Franklin County District Court with first-degree kidnapping, along with Hollinquest, Andrea Parr and Verla Spencer. Hearings in that case are scheduled next month.
Lowe said this is his first time prosecuting a "no-body homicide case."
This type of case is unique because prosecutors must prove the person is dead and how they died, he said.
"We believe her absence over this period of time will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Tiairra is no longer alive," Lowe said. "That is a difficult thing to do in a homicide case, but it's not unheard of."
Pasco detectives, with assistance from multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies across the state, have made every effort to find Tiairra Garcia, Lowe said.
"That's what we really wanted to do for the family. I wanted to be here to say that we found her, and I'm sorry that we can't do that," he said. "The fact that they don't have their daughter's remains to bring some closure is very, very important for the family. It would be very important for me as a father."
Attempts by the Herald to reach Garcia's family Tuesday were unsuccessful.
Lowe said the "one thing left undone" is to find the teen.
"We are not giving up the search. The Pasco Police Department is not giving up," he added.
Investigators have used cadaver dogs to comb the woods in the northeast quadrant of the national park at least three times. The Sunrise and White River areas and southbound Highway 123 are accessed by Highway 410 from Enumclaw, according to the park's website.
Pasco police Capt. Jim Raymond on Tuesday would not give the specific location of where they have been looking, but court documents state the Enumclaw Police Department "confirmed seeing" on June 23 a rental car Lockhard was believed driving when he "secreted" Garcia's body.
More than 12 feet of snow has fallen in the area, which is described as being vast and rugged.
"We have to wait for (the snow) to melt before we can go attempt to look again," Raymond said. "We've been given estimates that it could be as late as late May this year because of the deepness of snow."
Garcia was last seen June 22 when she left her home in a Plymouth Voyager van with Lockhard and Hollinquest.
Her mother became concerned when she didn't come home and failed to show up for work the next morning or pick up a paycheck.
Donna Garcia called Lockhard, who reportedly told her they had gotten into a fight Sunday night and the girl got out of the van near the Les Schwab tire center on Court Street and started walking. Donna Garcia went to the Pasco police Monday, then followed up a couple days later.
According to court documents, this is what happened:
Tiairra Garcia, Lockhard and Hollinquest went to Joey's restaurant on West Court Street on June 22, but Garcia ended up waiting in the van because she was not allowed in the bar.
"While in the bar, Lockhard carried a pistol for his personal protection," documents said. The men stayed until Lockhard was kicked out of the bar at 10:40 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators Garcia then drove the group to a West Lewis Street bar. Lockhard was in the front passenger seat and Hollinquest was directly behind Garcia.
As Garcia parked the van, "Lockhard moved to acquire the pistol that had been placed on the rear floorboard of the van ...," court documents said. "Lockhard grabbed the gun, and the weapon discharged one round. Tiairra Garcia was struck by the bullet from the weapon, and wounded."
"(Lockhard) put the van into gear, drove away from the bar and refused to take the obviously seriously wounded Tiairra Garcia to the hospital," the documents continued.
At 11:22 p.m., the van was involved in a hit-and-run collision on Bonneville Street. The badly damaged van then was driven into the front yard of Spencer's Parkview Boulevard home.
The driver knocked loudly on the front door asking for help, and Spencer eventually came out of the house.
Police arrived shortly after what appeared to be a body was carried into the house, but Spencer said she had no knowledge of the van or who had been driving it, court documents said.
Between 6 and 7 a.m. June 23, Lockhard and Hollinquest went to Ronald Kinsey's home asking him to rent a car for them, documents said.
June 23.
Parr, who owned the Plymouth van, reportedly told police Hollinquest had borrowed it June 22 and she hadn't seen him again until he arrived at her hotel the next morning with Lockhard.
They told her they had been in a crash and told her to report the van as stolen, which she did later that day, court documents said. She then rented a 2009 silver Toyota Corolla so the men could skip town.
The car was found abandoned and burned July 2 outside Chicago. A rag had been stuffed in the gas tank.
Lockhard, Hollinquest and Parr were all arrested in late July after a nationwide manhunt. Hollinquest and Parr were found in Chandler, Ariz., and Lockhard was picked up in Milwaukee.
Hollinquest has since pleaded guilty in Benton County to stealing the rental car.
Lockhard has been in federal custody in Yakima on a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a gun in an unrelated case. He was sentenced earlier this month to nearly seven years in federal prison.
Lowe said he will be asking a Superior Court judge to order Lockhard's immediate transfer to the Franklin County jail so he can proceed with the manslaughter case.
"I expect it to happen shortly," he said.

PASCO, Wash.-- The Franklin County Prosecutor filed charges of first degree manslaughter on Tuesday against Marnicus Lockhard. Other charges include first degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Lockhard is one of four people involved in her disappearance. The three others who have been already charged with first degree kidnapping include Ashone Hollinquest, Andrea Parr and Verla Spencer.
It's been nine months, two days and still no body. Tiarra Garcia was last seen by her family on June 22, 2008. A month later we heard frustration from her mother.
"Angry, scared, sad," said Donna Garcia, Tiarra Garcia's mother, back in July 2008.
On Tuesday even without a body the prosecution was ready to move on.
"At this point we believe Mr. Lockhard is the person responsible," said Steve Lowe, the Franklin County Prosecutor.
31-year-old Marnicus Lockhard was last seen with Garcia on the night she went missing.
Ashone Hollinquest was also spotted with them. That night they were all noticed at a few bars in Pasco.
Court documents say at one point Lockhard grabbed his gun and fired a round, which hit the young woman. Soon after police also found blankets and a rug with stains of Garcia's blood.
"The fact that we don't have their daughter's remains to bring some closure is very important to anyone, it would be important to me as a father," said Lowe.
Pasco police think Garcia's body was dumped near Mount Rainier National Park. They've been there at least three times looking, but now they have to wait for nearly 12 feet of snow to melt.
"We've been given estimates that it would be as late May this year because of the area and the deepness of the snow," said Captain Jim Raymond, with the Pasco Police Department.
Lockhard was already sentenced to nearly seven years in federal prison. It's just a matter of time now for him to return to Franklin County.
Lowe says it could be two to three weeks for Lockhard to return to state custody from federal. The coroner says in the next few days he will file an official death certificate.

Defense Attorneys Doubtful of Finding Impartial Jury

Posted: May 26, 2009 06:42 PM
Updated: May 26, 2009 06:42 PM

Pasco, WA- Attorneys for a man accused of killing his girlfriend remain skeptical they can find 12 people who haven't heard about the case.
Marnicus Lockhard is charged with manslaughter in the disappearance of 19 year-old Tiairra Jo Garcia.
The Pasco woman's body hasn't been found, but prosecutors say they believe Lockhard shot Garcia last June and dumped her body in a remote area of Mount Rainier National Park.
Defense attorney Carl Sonderman says media coverage has made it doubtful an impartial jury can be seated, and he says he plans to ask the trial be moved out of the Tri-Cities.
Today Superior Court Judge Bruce Spanner directed prosecutors and defense lawyers to put together a questionaire to give to potential jurors.
The trial is scheduled to begin next month and is expected to last four weeks, with prosecutors calling more than 40 witnesses.

Franklin County judge pushes trial forward despite witness difficulty

June 6, 2009
Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer

A judge said Friday that he wants to keep the upcoming trial date for a man accused of killing his girlfriend, even though an "essential witness" is refusing to be interviewed by defense attorneys.

Marnicus Lockhard, 30, is scheduled to face a jury Wednesday in Franklin County Superior Court.

But first, his lawyers said they need to meet with Verla Spencer to discuss her expected testimony for the prosecution.

It was Spencer's Pasco house where Lockhard reportedly first took the body of Tiairra Jo Garcia after he accidentally shot her inside a van.

Spencer was home with a relative and several children when Lockhard brought the body into a bedroom, then moved it into the garage where he put it in a large suitcase and placed it in the back of a car, said defense attorney Carl Sonderman. He noted that those are the prosecutors allegations.

"Verla was the first to see the two individuals. We have the right to examine her," said Sonderman, who is representing Lockhard along with Bob Thompson.

Lockhard is charged with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree unlawful possession of a gun in the June 22 disappearance.

Garcia, 19, had been dating Lockhard and went out that night with him and his friend, Ashone Hollinquest. Her mother became concerned when she didn't come home and failed to show up for work the next morning or pick up a paycheck.

Lockhard, in a later call to Donna Garcia, reportedly blamed her daughter's death on Hollinquest.

But prosecutors in March announced that they believe Lockhard is solely responsible.

He is believed to have dumped Garcia's body in Mount Rainier National Park near Enumclaw. A search for the body may resume later this month after the snow melts.

Lockhard, a convicted felon, was carrying a pistol "for his personal protection" when he went bar-hopping that night, court documents state. After the men were kicked out of one Pasco bar, Tiairra Garcia drove them in a van to another bar.

As she parked the van, Lockhard reached for the gun "and the weapon discharged one round. Tiairra Garcia was struck by the bullet from the weapon, and wounded," documents said.

But instead of getting help for his girlfriend, Lockhard allegedly moved Garcia out of the driver's seat, put the van into gear and drove around town, ultimately getting into a collision at 11:22 p.m.

The badly damaged van then was driven into the front yard of Spencer's Parkview Boulevard home.

Police arrived soon after getting reports of what appeared to be a body being carried into the house, but Spencer said she had no knowledge of the van or who had been driving it, court documents said.

The van, later found at another home, contained Duck brand tape, several blankets and a rug stained with what appeared to be blood. The blood matches Garcia's DNA profile, documents said.

Spencer is alleged to have bought the tape at 3:18 a.m. June 23. She is charged in Franklin County District Court with first-degree kidnapping.

Sonderman told the court Friday that an interview with Spencer had been arranged for this past Wednesday afternoon at the prosecutor's office. But when they showed up, attorney Jim Egan said his client would not be meeting with the defense lawyers.

Deputy Prosecutor Dave Corkrum added that he too was led to believe Egan and his client would be at the meeting and cooperate since it was not something that was set up spur of the moment.

Sonderman said the defense has every right to question Spencer because she is a material witness.

Sonderman said Spencer can't just invoke the Fifth Amendment when being asked a simple question, like her name.

Thompson said Egan is seeking immunity from testifying for his client.

Judge Bruce Spanner told Lockhard's attorneys to notify Egan that a deposition is appropriate and will be held next Wednesday afternoon. That will come just hours after jurors are scheduled to appear and fill out questionnaires that cover their knowledge of the case.

"I want to try and hold onto this trial date as long as we possibly can because it impacts" a lot of hearings all summer long, Spanner said.

But another potential issue that may delay the trial is Thompson's representation of another key prosecution witness, Ronald Kinsey.

Thompson has been Kinsey's lawyer on felony matters in Benton County Superior Court. Kinsey's lawyer on Franklin County matters, Matt Rutt, and prosecutors said Friday they have concerns about Thompson potentially cross-examining another client in Lockhard's case.

Thompson said Lockhard does not have any problem with it. He added that the only conflict would be if Kinsey's testimony differs from police reports.

The court suggested doing more research into the matter and addressing it again at a Monday hearing.

Manslaughter trial set to start Wednesday in Pasco

By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer
Published: 06/09/09 1:45 am

PASCO -- The trial of a Pasco man accused of killing his girlfriend nearly a year ago is scheduled to start Wednesday.
But issues still remain unresolved about a possible conflict of interest for one of Marnicus Lockhard's defense attorneys and an "essential witness" who has refused to talk.
Potential jurors are expected to arrive in the morning at the Franklin County Courthouse and complete questionnaires that will include explaining how much knowledge they have of the first-degree manslaughter case.
Lockhard also is charged with first-degree unlawful possession of a gun.
Tiairra Jo Garcia, 19, has been missing since June 22, after she spent the night out with Lockhard and his friend, Ashone Hollinquest.
Prosecutors say Garcia was shot when Lockhard reached for a gun that was on the floorboard of a van Garcia was driving. Instead of getting help, Lockhard allegedly moved Garcia from the driver's seat and drove around town as she died.
Eventually, Lockhard arrived at Verla Spencer's home in Pasco, where he reportedly put Garcia's body in a large suitcase.
Authorities say Lockhard dumped the suitcase in Mount Rainier National Park near Enumclaw, but Garcia's body has not been found.
On Monday, attorney Bob Thompson told Judge Bruce Spanner he feels he can stay on the case as co-counsel with Carl Sonderman even though he represents a key prosecution witness.
Thompson is Ronald Kinsey's attorney for unrelated charges in Benton County Superior Court. The van and other evidence, including a blood-stained rug, were found at Kinsey's home, court documents said.
Thompson said he knows Kinsey's other attorney, Matt Rutt, has concerns about the situation, as do prosecutors, but he said he didn't think there was a problem staying on the case.
Lockhard is aware of the issue and is OK with him remaining one of his attorneys, Thompson said.
"I personally believe I can" effectively represent Lockhard, Thompson said. "More importantly, I have not discussed with co-counsel my past involvement (with Kinsey) and I would not engage Mr. Kinsey."
Sonderman would be conducting any cross examination of Kinsey during the trial, Thompson said.
Thompson said he also called the state bar association to get an opinion, but hadn't received a call back.
He did add, however, that Lockhard or others could change their minds about Thompson staying on the case, but he didn't think there was a significant risk of that happening.
Deputy Prosecutor David Corkrum asked what would happen if during the third week of trial Thompson decided he had to withdraw. A mistrial likely would have to be declared, he said.
"I think this court and Mr. Thompson are treading on very thin ice," Corkrum said. "... I just don't see how this is ethical."
Spanner said they'll resolve the issue during a hearing Wednesday afternoon.
The judge also could decide whether Spencer will have to testify in the case. Jim Egan, Spencer's attorney, filed documents Monday saying that prosecutors should give her immunity if they want her to testify.
Spencer is charged with first-degree kidnapping in Franklin County District Court for her role in the events that occurred after Garcia was killed.
During the investigation into Garcia's disappearance, detectives found Duck brand tape, several blankets and a rug stained with what appeared to be blood that matched Garcia's DNA profile, court documents said. Prosecutors allege Spencer was seen on store surveillance video buying the tape at 3:18 a.m. June 23.
Egan said prosecutors have threatened to charge his client with rendering criminal assistance and Spencer fears being charged as an accomplice in the manslaughter case.
"Because of these charges and potential charges, the defendant wishes to remain silent," Egan wrote. "She believes that she cannot be compelled to speak any more than defendant Lockhard can be compelled, by Miss Spencer's attorney, to sit for a deposition."

PASCO - The man accused of accidentally killing his girlfriend has agreed to a plea deal. But is eight enough?

Marnicus Lockhard faces eight years in prison for killing 19 year old Tiairra Jo Garcia.

Lockhard avoided a trial for first degree manslaughter by pleading guilty to second degree.

On the day the trial was supposed to start, the case against Lockhard ended before it even began. A last minute deal means he will serve time for his role in a young woman's death. Instead of the possibility of nearly 30 years in prison, he could get just eight.

"I feel frustrated angry with mixed emotions," said Tiairra's mom Donna Garcia.

"I think Tiairra's life was worth more than a few years," said friend Ali Beltran.

The deal isn't exactly a confession. It's called an Alford plea. It means Lockhard denied committing the crime, but believed prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him.

The prosecution believes Lockhard was handling the gun when it went off, shooting Tiairra. All sides agree it was an accident, but Lockhard and another man both say the other was holding the gun.

Police have plenty of evidence, DNA and witnesses, but still no body. Making it all the more difficult to convict, but that's no comfort for family and friends.

"I would have rather seen a trial and a jury decision. He took my daughter's life and he gets to live his. That's not fair," said Garcia.

And now this mother who's been through so much has to prepare herself for one more hurdle. She says she will have something to say to Lockhard at his sentencing finding the words will be the hard part.

"I just hope I can do it without breaking down," said Garcia.

As a part of the deal, Lockhard can argue for the bottom of the range of the sentence. That's six years and 10 months.

Meanwhile, Pasco Police are still waiting for the snow cover to clear before they can search for Tiairra's body in Mount Rainer. Tiairra's mother say police are going up in the next couple of weeks.

COURT: Lockhard takes plea deal in death of Pasco girlfriend

By Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer

PASCO Marnicus Lockhard disputes allegations that he was holding the gun when his girlfriend was fatally shot a year ago, but today he accepted a plea deal that could land him in prison for an extra seven years.
Lockhard, 30, entered a modified guilty plea to a reduced charge of second-degree manslaughter with a firearm allegation and first-degree unlawful possession of a gun.
He also entered an Alford plea to one count of unlawful delivery of cocaine in an unrelated case.
He had been scheduled to start trial today in Franklin County Superior Court.
The Alford plea means Lockhard denied committing the crime but believed prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him.
Instead of getting help, he allegedly let Garcia die and eventually wrapped her body in a blanket and stuffed it into a large suitcase.
Garcia’s body was reportedly dumped the next day in Mount Rainier National Park near
Enumclaw.
Hollinquest is also charged in Superior Court with second-degree manslaughter.
Garcia’s mother, Donna, and other family and friends attended this morning’s hearing. Some wore T-shirts with a picture of Garcia.
Prosecutor Steve Lowe, after the hearing, said he knows Garcia’s loved ones are angry with the plea deal but his office was not assured a conviction had the case gone to trial.
“This is not the result the family wanted. Obviously the time we’re talking about is not much time for their loved one, Tiairra,” Lowe said.
A “no-body homicide case” is not that common and would have required prosecutors to prove that Garcia is dead and how she died. Jurors would have been forced to decide Lockhard’s guilt without any forensic evidence and based on the testimony of Hollinquest.
Hollinquest has been cooperating with prosecutors for months, Lowe confirmed.
Lockhard is scheduled to be sentenced June 19.
As a part of the deal, he can argue for a sentence at the bottom of the range, six years and 10 months. Prosecutors plan to ask Judge Bruce Spanner to give Lockhard the top of the range, or eight years and one month.
That will include a three-year term for the firearm enhancement.
This sentence will be served after Lockhard completes his federal time for being a felon in possession of a gun. He is doing nearly seven years on that unrelated case.

Lockhard Sentenced to 8 Years for Shooting Girlfriend

http://media.keprtv.com/images/lockhard%20sentencing.jpg
Concepcion Garcia reads a statement about her sister, Tiairra Garica, to the court before the Marnicus Lockhard's sentence is handed down.

PASCO -- Shrouded by attorneys and police, Marnicus Lockhard said he panicked when he accidentally shot his girlfriend, Tiairra Jo Garcia.

"It was an accident. I panicked and was scared. I played a big part in her life and truly loved her. She was a brilliant person," Lockhard said.

Regrets and Remorse, apologies and promises.

After initially refusing to help find her body, Lock hard Committed to bringing Tiairra's body home.

"Please find it in your heart to forgive me," he said. "For the record, I love you and miss you TJG."

But the words were lost on family and friends.

"Killing her, you killed a large part of me. She had her own life in front of her," Tiairra's mom Donna Garcia said.

"There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my sister, and the pain and the horror and where her body may lie," sister Concepcion Garcia said.

"Why would somebody take the life of such a wonderful person?" friend Ali Beltran.

Just a month after turning 19, Tiairra was leaving Joey's bar with her boyfriend Marnicus and his friend, Ashone Hollinquist. While Tiairra was driving, the men were passing a gun when it suddenly fired.

"As that transfer took place, the gun went off, never an intentional act," Bob Thompson said, Lockhard's attorney.

But rather than take her to a hospital, they let her die. She was wrapped in a blanket, stuffed in a suitcase, and dumped at Mt. Rainier.

"Give us our Tiairra back," Concepcion said. "So we can give her the proper burial she deserves. Out of respect for our family. Please."

"She was your girlfriend, someone you shared intimately with," Judge Bruce Spanner said. "And as I understand it, she's now in a suitcase somewhere."

Besides the cover-up, Spanner couldn't believe Lockhard had committed a crime with a gun, only one month after he'd been convicted on federal weapons charges.

"Your arrest had been less than one month," Spanner said. "You don't get it Mr.Lockhard."

"My nightmare has yet to end but yours has yet to begin," Donna said.

For now, that nightmare will continue until Tiairra comes home.

Lockhard's guilty plea last week dropped the charges from first degree manslaughter to second. His attorneys said he took the most heat since his friend, Hollinquest, was also charged with manslaughter but made a deal first.

Lockhard was also sentenced on unrelated drug charges.

Pasco man sentenced in death of girlfriend

06/20/09

A judge said Friday that it was selfishness, not fear, that led Marnicus Lockhard to ignore his lover's pain and dump her somewhere in a suitcase.

"I think there was deliberate cruelty to (Tiairra Jo Garcia) by not just going straight to the hospital," said Judge Bruce Spanner. "I think you were motivated by selfishness, sir. That you could have taken her to the hospital and you could have taken your lumps and maybe, just maybe, she'd be alive today."

Instead, Lockhard's actions late June 22, 2008, left Garcia dead from a gunshot wound and her family at a loss without a body to bury.

Spanner, in sentencing Lockhard to eight years and one month in prison, questioned why the felon even was near a gun that night. Lockhard had been arrested a month earlier for a firearm possession that eventually resulted in a federal conviction.

It's clear Lockhard does not understand his obligation to abide by laws, Spanner said.

Earlier this month Lockhard entered a modified guilty plea in Franklin County Superior Court to second-degree manslaughter with a firearm allegation and first-degree unlawful possession of a gun. He also entered a plea in an unrelated case to one count of delivery of cocaine, which was reduced from four counts.

The Alford plea means he denied committing the crimes but believed prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him.

As part of the plea deal, Lockhard will be accompanying Pasco detectives in the next week to Mount Rainier National Park in an attempt to locate Garcia's body. Recovery efforts have been hampered by thick snow and few details of just where the suitcase was dumped in the vast and remote forest.

The eight-year term was at the top of the standard sentencing range for the manslaughter given Lockhard's criminal history, which includes two drug possessions out of Arkansas from 2001. He will do the time once he completes a seven-year federal sentence.

Deputy Prosecutor Dave Corkrum described Lockhard as a "one-man crime spree" since moving to Pasco.

"The defendant killed Tiairra approximately one month after being arrested for possession of a firearm, and again he was in possession of a gun," Corkrum told the court. "And as a result of being in that possession, Tiairra is dead."

Garcia, 19, was dating Lockhard in June 2008 when she went out on the town with him and his friend, Ashone Hollinquest. She had been driving the men around to Pasco bars.

Hollinquest, 23, is also charged with second-degree manslaughter. He has been cooperating with authorities and was expected to testify against Lockhard.

Lockhard's attorneys claim Hollinquest was passing the gun to Lockhard but still had it in his possession when it discharged. Prosecutors maintain the gun was in Lockhard's hands when it went off, hitting Garcia in the torso.

Either way, Lockhard just moved her out of the driver's seat of the van and let her die, court documents said. He later wrapped her body in a blanket and stuffed it in a suitcase, dumping it the next day off a park road near Enumclaw, documents said.

Concepcion Garcia said Friday that she "cannot imagine the pain and torture" her sister must have felt that night at the hands of her first love.

"Eight years seems like such a short time for taking an exceptional life," she said.

Donna Garcia -- disappointed, frustrated and angered by the plea bargain -- agreed that it's not enough time for her baby's life.

Since last seeing her daughter nearly a year ago, Donna Garcia said, "Every tick of the clock has been a lifetime for me and my family and close friends."

She said she wakes up every day "wishing and praying that this was a nightmare. Not being able to see my daughter smile, hear her laughter, having the talks that we shared has left an empty hole within me that's broken my heart so much to the point that no one will ever mend."

Tiairra was her whole world and Lockhard took that away, said Donna Garcia.

"Killing her -- you killed a large part of me. She had her whole life in front of her and because of that four-letter word (love) you took that and made it into a cheap token of affection," she told the court. "I let you sleep in my house, I fed you and at one time thought of you like a son, and now you darken my heart with hate."

Lockhard apologized to both his family and the Garcias "for the crime that was committed," saying that he panicked when he should have gotten help.

"It was an accident. I panicked and was scared," he said. "I played a big part in her life and I truly loved her. She is a brilliant person, lovable, funny. Truly I can't even calculate how good of a person she is."

Lockhard said he has "cried many nights" about Tiairra Garcia's death and wants to do his best to help find her body.

"I sincerely apologize for the pain I have caused you. If I could take it all back I would. Please find it in your heart to forgive me. I'm sorry," he said. "God bless. And for the record, I miss you and love you T.J."

Defense attorneys Bob Thompson and Carl Sonderman reiterated to the court that the shooting was not intentional and that Lockhard got scared about what might have happened if he went for help.

Garcia's "death was the result of a very stupid act," Sonderman said.

But Spanner didn't buy the fear claim.

"We have a very youthful victim deprived of many years of life. This offense and its cover-up involved a destructive and foreseeable impact on the family and the community," Spanner said. "The body was deliberately hidden. The family could not obtain closure."

"I acknowledge that you indicated a willingness in the future to help the family, and I am distressed that it hasn't happened before now," he added. "The victim was your girlfriend, someone who shared intimately with you and, as I understand the facts, she's in a suitcase somewhere."

Ashone Hollinquest Sentenced to One Year for Tiairra Garcia Shooting

http://media.keprtv.com/images/ASHONE%20HOLLINQUEST.jpg

PASCO -- Another sentencing Tuesday in connection with the death of Tiairra Garcia.

This time, Ashone Hollinquest was given one year for his role in her death. But he's already spent nearly a year behind bars so this sentence means he'll be out in weeks.

Tiairra's mother, Donna Garcia, was beside herself.

"Instead, choosing to let her die and dump her body like common road kill, discarding her body in a way of showing no mercy or even heart."

Those involved in her death have said Tiairra's body was left at Mount Rainier. Hollinquest said he was too scared to stop it.

"I can only say I wish I had the willpower and the strength to overcome what happened that night," Hollinquest said.

Hollinquest apologized and said he wished he lost his own life that day. A tussle over a gun left Tiairra shot in a van. Tiairra's boyfriend, Marnicus Lockhard, is serving eight years for his role in her death.

Despite the seemingly short sentence for Hollinquest, the judge said it was fair.

Tiairra's body has still not been found.

Hollinquest takes plea deal in Tiairra Jo Garcia's death

7/1/09

PASCO -- The mother of Tiairra Jo Garcia said Tuesday that the justice system has failed them as her daughter's second killer was sentenced to one year in jail.

Ashone Hollinquest, 23, could be released soon as a result of his plea deal to second-degree manslaughter. He got a reduced sentence for cooperating with authorities and agreeing to testify against his co-defendants.

A tearful Donna Garcia questioned the choices made June 22, 2008, by Hollinquest and Marnicus Lockhard after her 19-year-old daughter was shot. Instead of seeking medical attention or bringing the girl home to her mother, the men left her to die and treated her "like common roadkill," Garcia told the court.

Tiairra Garcia's body has not been found. It reportedly was stuffed into a suitcase and dumped somewhere in Mount Rainier National Park near Enumclaw.

"I wish I could have traded places for her. I've lived a lot of my life but she was robbed of hers," Donna Garcia said. "Why is it a drug dealer gets more years than a person who takes a human life? ... God is the only one who has the right to take a life. A human life is priceless."

Tiairra was dating Lockhard when she went out on the town with him and Hollinquest. She had been driving the men around to Pasco bars when she was accidentally shot inside the van.

Lockhard claimed Hollinquest still was holding the gun when it was discharged.

Hollinquest, in his guilty plea statement, said "I handed a gun to Marnicus Lockhard at his request. He grabbed it from my hand in a harsh manner and when he did so, the gun went off and hit Tiairra Garcia."

Hollinquest says he "tried to administer CPR and wanted to take her to the hospital but was prevented from doing so. I was scared and aided in the disposal of the body when I should not have done so."

A document filed by prosecutors Tuesday said that without Hollinquest's cooperation, "the circumstances surrounding the death of Tiairra Jo Garcia and the disposal of her body would most likely never have been revealed."

The standard range for the crime given Hollinquest's brief criminal history is two years and seven months to three years and five months. But Deputy Prosecutor Dave Corkrum told the court that as a result of the plea negotiations, he was recommending the 12-month jail sentence because "(Hollinquest's) assistance on the investigation in this matter was essential."

Shelley Ajax said her client, a Pasco native, went out on the night of the crime "with somebody who he thought was his friend." After Tiairra was shot, Hollinquest "felt very, very pressured" and feared for his own life.

"He has been very remorseful in every interview, whenever we had to discuss the facts of the case," Ajax said, adding that she thinks it's her first client to ever continue reliving the events of that night.

Hollinquest is "unsatisfied" that Tiairra's body has not been found.

A police search last month, with directions from Lockhard, was unsuccessful.

"I'd just like to say I know that there ain't nothing I can say to bring her back ...," said Hollinquest, who also handed over letters for Donna Garcia and Judge Vic VanderSchoor. "I would like to apologize for the pain that I have caused her family and her friends. I wish I had the will power and the strength to overcome what happened that night."

VanderSchoor said based on what he'd heard and read about Hollinquest's cooperation, a jail sentence is "fair and just."

"I would like to certainly indicate my sympathy and empathy to Ms. Garcia, the mother of the victim," he said. "I know she doesn't think this is appropriate."

Lockhard was sentenced last month to eight years in prison for a modified guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter.

Verla Spencer -- who lied to police after the men brought Tiairra's body to her home -- also struck a deal to second-degree rendering criminal assistance and was sentenced to 364 days in jail with 324 days suspended. She had credit for already serving 40 days.

The only outstanding case is for Andrea Parr, who was charged last week in Superior Court with second-degree rendering criminal assistance and making false or misleading statements to police. She already had a charge for second-degree possession of stolen property, connected to the case.

Parr, Hollinquest's girlfriend, is scheduled for trial Aug. 5.

I feel like if he was the least bit sorry he would tell Tiairra'a mother where her body is so she can be laid to rest. Justice was not served for her. This is such a sad story.

IMO, part of that plea agreement should have been the diclosure of Tiairra's body.
IIRC, at one point he said she was in a suitcase in the forest but they were waiting till Spring to search. Is anyone searching?

KONA reports investigators from Pasco and the King County sheriff's office found the body Saturday in a search.

Pasco police Capt. Jim Raymond says it will take some time to confirm whether the body is Tiairra Jo Garcia.

Officials believe the 19-year-old was accidentally shot in June 2008 by her boyfriend while riding in a van. Marnicus Lockhard of Pasco is accused of letting her die and dumping her body. He was charged with manslaughter.

Another man, Ashone Hollinquest, also was charged with manslaughter for his role in the case.

Body Found Could Be Pasco Woman

http://media.keprtv.com/images/tiairra1.jpg

Story Published: Jul 20, 2009 at 6:13 PM PDT

PASCO--A body found in a suitcase and police say it could be Tiairra Garcia.

The Pasco woman disappeared last summer.

Now searchers have located bones in the same place Tiairra's friends admit to dumping her body.

After a year of searching, Pasco Police think they've found Tiairra Garcia.

“The body was found in a region where they believed she was ultimately dumped,” Pasco Police Captain Jim Raymond said.

Police tell me they found her just a few miles east of Enumclaw off of Highway 410.

“Located in what's best described as a ravine, very wooded tree line, the search and rescue cadaver dogs found the remains site,” Capt. Raymond said.

Pasco Police say they've been searching the area for more than a month.

With the help of King County Sheriff's and search and rescue teams they narrowed down the exact spot.

“There were weather issues earlier in the year, obviously most of the area was closed due to heavy snow and those type of things so we had to wait one for the area to open up and then it was very remote,” Capt. Raymond said.

Pasco Police say it's rare to actually be able to find a body after this amount of time.

“To be quite honest with you this set of circumstances it’s locating the remains is actually a good thing, we feel we'll be able to help obviously the family with some of that closure,” Capt. Raymond said.

Two people are already serving time for her death, but for being upfront about where her body was their sentences were lighter.

Ashone Hollinquest will likely get out in a few weeks based on time already served.

Tiairra's boyfriend, Marnicus Lockhard is serving an eight year term.

What's left of this once smiling 19 year old is mostly bones, bones the King County Medical Examiner will use to ID her, and hopefully send her home.

Police believe Tiairra was accidentally shot; it was the disposing of her body that became the focus of the case.

A woman accused of covering up the killing and lying to police is set to go to trial in a few months.

Action News called the King County Medical Examiner's office to get an update on the autopsy; they tell us the report may be ready Tuesday.

Donna Garcia said she's hoping her daughter's remains will be positively identified and returned to Pasco by next week. She plans a Rosary and service but hasn't set a date yet. The memorial service will be open to the public, she said.

"I'm just thanking God for finding my daughter," she said. "I'm just so grateful. ... As bad as it seems that he put her in a suitcase, it was good fortune for me. If it was just her out there, I probably wouldn't have ever found her. ... I could have never had closure."

Woman charged in Garcia slaying sentenced

; Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer
Published: 07/29/09

PASCO -- The fourth and final person charged in the June 2008 fatal shooting of Tiairra Jo Garcia was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in jail for helping the killers avoid capture.

Andrea Rachelle Parr, 27, pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court to second-degree possession of stolen property, a felony, and second-degree rendering criminal assistance and making false or misleading statements to a public servant, both gross misdemeanors.

Parr's boyfriend, Ashone Hollinquest, and Marnicus Lockhard have both been convicted of second-degree manslaughter for killing Garcia during a night out in Pasco.

Garcia, 19, was accidentally shot June 22, 2008, while driving the men to a second bar. But instead of taking her to a hospital for medical attention, the men let her die, loaded her body into a suitcase and dumped it the next day in Mount Rainier National Park near Enumclaw.

Garcia's remains were found earlier this month in a tree-lined ravine off Highway 410. They were positively identified last week by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.

The van that Garcia, Lockhard and Hollinquest used that night belonged to Parr. It had been involved in a crash after the shooting and was then driven to Verla Spencer's home so they could move the body.

Spencer admitted to second-degree rendering criminal assistance for lying to police about the badly damaged van parked in her yard.

The empty van was later dumped at the home of another friend.

Parr told investigators that Hollinquest had borrowed the van June 22 and that she hadn't seen him again until he arrived at her hotel with Lockhard the next morning, court documents said.

The men reportedly told Parr the van had been in a crash and to report it as being stolen, which she did later that day. Then Parr rented a car for them so they could leave town.

A short time later, Parr took jewelry from a relative's fire safe and sold it at a pawn shop for cash.

Parr's court costs include $1,425.45 for extradition from Arizona -- where she was arrested with Hollinquest last summer after a nationwide manhunt -- and $100 in restitution to the Trading Post of Pasco.

Calif. trucker accused of assault on fellow driver

A long-haul trucker from Southern California is being held on $20,000 bail on allegations he stabbed his fellow driver while they were parked at the King City Truck Stop in Pasco.

Juan E. Hernandez-Lopez, 45, is in the Franklin County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Prosecutors must file charges by 4 p.m. today or release him. If charged, Hernandez-Lopez will appear in court to enter a plea next Tuesday.

Pasco police were called to the Hillsboro Road truck stop at 2:48 a.m. Saturday by Valentin Salazar, who claimed he was being stabbed and was holding the suspect in the cab of the truck, court documents said.

The two men had reportedly been arguing when Hernandez-Lopez stabbed Salazar, 38, in the upper left chest area.

Hernandez-Lopez of Van Nuys, Calif., was arrested. He was treated at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco for possible head injuries before being booked into jail.

Salazar, of Bakersfield, Calif., had to be admitted to Lourdes Medical Center "for possible vascular problems associated with the stabbing," documents said.

Salesman accused of forging woman's check

A door-to-door salesman who signs receipts with his alias, "McLuvin," is accused of forging a Pasco woman's check so she was charged an extra $100.

Shawn R. Ammons, 31, of Cleveland, pleaded innocent to forgery. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 23.

According to court documents, Ammons was selling cleaning products when he stopped by the 55-year-old woman's home July 1. She bought $43.08 with tax and wrote a personal check to Young Enterprise.

The sales receipt was signed by "Shawn Ammons AKA-McLuvin."

Then on July 17, the woman noticed an overdraft had occurred on her checking account and learned that check had been changed to read $143.08 and in the name of Shawn Ammons, documents said. The woman called police to report the fraud, then went to her bank to file an affidavit of forgery.

When shown a collage of six different possible suspects, the victim "immediately pointed at the picture of Ammons and stated, 'That's the dirt bag right there,' " court documents said.

Pasco officers contacted the company manager at a Richland motel, who handed over the original receipt which "appeared to have been altered in several areas and had the amount of $143.08 as the total," documents said.

Ammons reportedly brought in a total $479.51 in checks to be deposited for sales, including the woman's extra $100, on July 1.

Man admits keeping rental car for month

A Pasco man admitted to keeping a one-day car rental for a month.

Preston Kekumu Hernandez, 21, was caught when police responded to an accident call and found the 2008 Suzuki XL7 stuck on a cement barricade in Security Mini-Storage.

Hernandez had phoned it into Pasco police and was waiting for officers June 30 in the parking lot of the South 28th Avenue business. He pointed out the Suzuki inside the fenced compound, which he had driven "onto a cement barricade that protected the outdoor water faucet and high-centered the vehicle," court documents said.

That's when officers realized Hernandez was driving a reported stolen car. The Suzuki had been rented June 3 for one day.

Hernandez claims he had been approved over the phone for a one-month extension with Dollar Rent a Car in Tukwila, but couldn't give police the name of the person he spoke with or when he even called.

Tuesday, Hernandez pleaded guilty to first-degree possession of stolen property and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. He had no known criminal history before this case, court documents showed.
