Rumors prompt New London police to reopen 1976 death case
July 5, 2008
NEW LONDON — Thirty-two years after New London police ruled a teenage boy's death an accident, persistent rumors in the community have prompted them to reopen the case.
The body of 15-year-old Elvis Pingel was found in the Wolf River in 1976. His death was ruled an accident, but there are continuing rumors that the death wasn't accidental.
Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says the case has been reinvestigated three times and no new information came up. But he says the rumors can't be dismissed out of hand.
