The Bradley County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help locating a missing person, Harold D. Cheney, who was last seen by his family around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8.

Relatives filed a missing persons report on Wednesday after they did not find him at home or anywhere within the immediate area.

Family members believe he left his residence in the 2800 block of Patterson Road on foot sometime between 11 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday. An extensive search by deputies turned up several possible sightings, leading to speculation that he could be in Bradley County or Polk County.

Cheney is 74 years old and described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, 90 to 100 pounds with a salt and pepper beard and hair. Family members said he could be wearing or carrying a flannel jacket and may be disoriented.

Sheriff Tim Gobble said anyone who has seen Mr. Cheney is asked to call the BCSO Communications Center at 728-7311 or the Crime Hotline 728-7336.

According to Harold D. Cheney's family, he has been found after being missing for nearly 48 hours, giving his family and much of Bradley County quite a scare.

"He has a friend down the road that he goes and sees. We thought he was going for another walk but no one seen him since," says his grand-son Donald Cheney.

His family got word that Cheney had been located this afternoon. He had been missing for two days before he was found at a Bradley County hospital. His family says when he left they didn't question it because he does this sort of thing often but never for this long.

"He misses my grandma a lot she passed in ninety three and he is still living in 1993," says his grand-son Donald Cheney.

Relatives filed a missing persons report on Wednesday after they did not find him at home or anywhere within the immediate area.

Family say he left his residence in the 2800 block of Patterson Road on foot sometime between 11 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to his family Cheney is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. The last time Cheney went missing was two years ago when he took off after another walk. However that time, the Bradley County Sheriff's Department found him 10 hours later on the North end of town. This time the Sheriff's Department believes he made it all the way to Polk County.

Bradley County Sheriff's Department got a tip that a man fitting Cheney's description was brought by Polk County authorities to a homeless shelter in Cleveland where he stayed one night then left.

According to his family he has done this before, but never for this length of time. The last time this happened was in 2004, he was missing for 10 hours but was found after the Bradley County Sheriff's Department found him on the North end of the county.

Since Cheney was gone for two days he was officially considered a missing person and put on the national list. Bradley County Sheriff's Department put his picture up around the county and used thermal lighting to find him in the woods.

"Anytime an elderly man goes missing who might be disoriented and isnt where he is supposed to be we are concerened for his safety," says Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble.

According to family, someone found Cheney passed out on Lowery Street in Cleveland, they brought him to a Bradley County hospital where he was reunited with his family.
