Authorities Saturday were looking for a missing Arizona man who last called his family from an Atwater convenience store Wednesday and whose car was found abandoned Friday in San Joaquin County, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Department.

Gregory Beach, 62, was driving from his home in Tempe, Ariz., to Yuba City in Sutter County. He called relatives in Yuba City from a pay phone about 5 p.m. Wednesday from the Atwater Circle K at 1021 Shaffer Road, said deputy Tom Mac-Kenzie, a Merced County sheriff's spokesman.

Beach's family has not heard from him since then. MacKenzie said Beach's family is concerned about his disappearance, because Beach has medical conditions that cause him to become "extremely delusional" without medication.

Sheriff's officials described Beach as a white man, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 180 pounds, with blue eyes and gray hair. He was driving a 2001 four-door Isuzu with Arizona license plate number AAX8296.

MacKenzie said Beach's car was found Friday along Highway 99 near East Lathrop Road, just north of Manteca. Nearby residents told authorities they saw a man fitting Beach's description walking away from the car Wednesday. San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies searched the area for Beach, but did not find him.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department considers Beach a missing person at risk and asks anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to call the nearest law enforcement agency or the Merced County Sheriff's Department at 385-7444.

Authorities are asking the public for help in finding a missing man with a medical condition who was last seen near Manteca.

Gregory Beach, 62, was driving from Tempe, Ariz., to Yuba City, but he never reached his destination, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department. Beach called relatives in Yuba City from a pay phone in Atwater at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Family members are concerned because Beach becomes extremely delusional when he does not take his medication, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tom MacKenzie said.
MacKenzie said the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office on Friday recovered Beach’s 2001 four-door Isuzu, which is either brown or gray and has Arizona license plate AAX8296. The car was found along Highway 99, near the Lathrop Road exit, and residents in the area had seen a man matching Beach’s description Wednesday night.

Beach is described as white, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 180 pounds, with blue eyes and gray hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call local law enforcement agencies or the Merced County Sheriff’s Department at (209) 385-7444.

MISSING MAN FOUND SAFE IN SACRAMENTO

ATWATER

A missing man who disappeared last week has been found safe, said Merced County sheriff's spokesman Tom MacKenzie.

Gregory Beach, 62, disappeared after calling his family Wednesday from a Circle K in Atwater. His car was found Friday at Highway 99 and Lathrop Road in San Joaquin County where neighbors reported seeing a man matching his description walking from the vehicle.

MacKenzie said the police recently learned from Beach's family that he walked to Interstate 5 after abandoning his car. Beach somehow ended up in Sacramento where he called his family to come pick him up Saturday.

The family told investigators that he walked to Sacramento, MacKenzie said. Along the way, Beach picked peaches and other fruits from trees to feed himself, the family told investigators.

Beach, who is on medication and can be delusional, was on his way from Arizona to Yuba City, the family said.
