Mason County Man Missing After Bike Ride

UPDATED: 12:56 pm PDT July 16, 2008

UNION, Wash. -- Crews from three counties and bloodhounds are searching for a missing man in Mason County.

Mason County detectives said 46-year-old Alun Noll vanished nearly three weeks ago on a bike ride along Highway 106 near the Hood Canal.

Crews from Mason, Kitsap and Pierce counties are concentrating their search efforts in an area where Noll was last seen riding a bike.

Friends of Noll hope to find him alive.

"I feel something bad has happened and I just hope that's not the case. I hope they find him," said friend Tracy Jones.

Noll had been staying at a friend’s house in Union, helping build a new home. His friends told Mason County detectives that he wouldn't just vanish.

Sheriff's officials coordinating the search for Noll said they are treating his disappearance as suspicious.

"We always treat those with a degree of suspicion and treat them as a homicide until we find out otherwise," said Dean Byrd of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have repeatedly tried to call Noll's cell phone, but get no answer.

UNION

The Mason County Sheriff's Office is investigating the disappearance of a Union man in late June from an area near the Skokomish Indian Reservation, according to an office spokesman.

Alun Todd Noll, 46, was last seen riding a bicycle on Highway 106 near the reservation on June 28. He hasn't reported for work since June 26, and his coworkers told deputies that it's not like him to not show up for work without calling.

Deputies began an investigation July 14, when his employer called to report him missing. Detectives have been assigned to the investigation, and anyone with information on his whereabouts can call (360) 427-9670, extension 313.

Disappearance of Mason County man 'suspicious'

05:36 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 16, 2008

UNION, Wash. - Searchers combed through the woods in the area of the Skokomish Indian Reservation on State Route 106 Wednesday, as they searched for Alun Noll, who hasn't been seen for more than two weeks.

Five search dogs and nearly 30 volunteers from three counties spent the day walking Mason County roads and trails, looking for clues.

Noll, 46, lives in Union and works construction. On June 27 he went for a bike ride near the Skokomish Indian Reservation and hasn't been seen since.

"He just disappeared," said Noll's roommate, Tracy Jones.

Noll rents a room from Jones and works for her boyfriend.

Jones says Noll is a loner and used to live out of his car. She says he likes his new job and wouldn't have just left, especially without his car. She's afraid something bad happened.

"I just feel it … I just feel it," she said. "People are worried about him. We're worried about him. We feel somebody out there knows what happened."

Investigators consider the disappearance suspicious.

"He did not report to work. He hasn't answered his cell phone. It's a mystery," said Chief Deputy Dean Byrd, Mason County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Noll was known to ride his bike on narrow, rural roads so they say there's a possibility he might have been hit by a car.

But searchers haven't found any evidence of any bike or car crashes.

"Hopefully he just went for a long bike ride," said Jones. "He's a nice guy. I'm worried. I hope nobody in this town did any harm to him."

Anyone with information is asked call 911 or contact Det. Rich Germeau of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office at (360) 427-9670, Ext. 313.

Local man missing 1.5 months found
August 04, 2008

A man missing since June 26 finally was found today.

He is fine.

Alun Todd Noll of Mason County has been located just outside Lynden in Whatcom County near the Canadian border.

Noll told investigators he had saved some money and decided to move on. Noll did not even know he had been reported missing and added he just wanted to be left alone.

Noll was reported missing on July 13 by co-workers and was last seen June 28 riding a bicycle near the Skokomish Reservation on State Route 106.

Co-workers told deputies Noll had not reported for work since June 26, and it was unlike him not to come to work without calling. Co-workers made several attempts to contact Noll without success.

Deputies found out Noll was seen at the Buck’s Prairie Store about 13 miles west of Shelton, on or about June 28 at about 2 p.m. Noll apparently told a witness he was on a day trip and was headed back to Union, but never arrived there.

County deputies thought the circumstances were suspicious because some people weren't being cooperative in the investigation.

The investigation stalled because of a lack of leads until late last week when deputies received information from Lynden police that Noll may be staying in that area.

Deputies learned today that investigators from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office were able to contact Noll and verify he is in good condition.

This was reported by his co-workers. IMO he should have known someone from work would worry but it didn't mention family. He just moved on, guessing he has no ties...Glad he's safe. Another happy outcome!
