ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Orange County Sheriffs Deputies are asking for the publics help in locating a 2 year old girl who has been missing over a month.

Authorities said Caylee Marie Anthony has been missing since June 9th. According to investigators her mother, Casey Marie Anthony said she dropped the child off with a friend and babysitter “Zenaida” at a local apartment complex “The Sawgrass Apartments” on that day.

She then went on to add that she has since lost contact with her friend.

The reason for the delay in reporting the incident according to investigators was that it was only this past Wednesday that the grandparents reported Caylee missing after confronting Casey regarding their granddaughter’s whereabouts and discovering she had not been seen by them or their daughter for well over a month.

Deputies arrested Casey Marie Anthony for child neglect and providing false information to law enforcement. She is currently being questioned regarding the investigation and the timeline regarding her whereabouts after June 9th is of particular interest to investigators.

2 year old Caylee is white with brown hair and hazel eyes. She is approximately 3 feet tall.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public if anyone has seen Caylee and Casey together, or if anyone has seen Caylee Marie Anthony in the company of another since June 9th, 2008 please contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 1 800 423-TIPS (8477).

Small child missing a month

Jul 16, 2008 6:47:29 PM

Would you lose contact for a month with the woman you left your 2-year-old with? That's what the mother of a missing girl says happened.

Casey Marie Anthony was being questioned Wednesday night by Orange County investigators and faces neglect charges -- over the whereabouts of daughter Caylee Marie Anthony. Here's what deputies know so far:

Casey Marie Anthony told investigators that on June 9 she dropped Caylee off with a friend and babysitter "Zenaida" at a local apartment complex -- "The Sawgrass Apartments." Casey has since lost contact with her friend.

There was a delay in the reporting of this incident to the Sheriff’s Office. On July 15, the grandparents reported Caylee missing after confronting Casey regarding their granddaughter’s whereabouts and discovering she had not been seen by them or their daughter for well over a month.

Casey Marie Anthony is under arrest for Child Neglect and Providing False Information to Law Enforcement she is being questioned regarding this investigation and is not being sought, but the timeline regarding her whereabouts after June 9th is still of interest to investigators.

The Sheriff’s Office is trying to determine the whereabouts and well-being of Caylee. If you have seen Caylee and Casey together, or if you have seen Caylee Marie Anthony in the company of another since June 9, you can contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 1 800 423-8477.

Girl, 2, Missing For Over A Month
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 10:50:48 PM

ORANGE COUNTY -- Deputies are trying to find a 2-year-old girl who's been missing for more than a month.

Investigators are currently trying to find Caylee Marie Anthony.

Casey Anthony, the girl’s mother, said she dropped the girl off at a friend’s house back on June 9, but then lost contact with that friend, who is only known as Zenaida Gonzalez.

The girl’s grandparents got concerned and confronted her mother.

They then went to the sheriff's office.

Anthony was arrested Wednesday on charges of child neglect and for lying to authorities.

Investigators said they're not sure if anything she's saying is true, since she's already lied to them, saying she worked at a local theme park when she didn't.

“Obviously, if we had been notified the day the child turned up missing, we could have started looking for the child immediately,” said Sgt. Allen Lee from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. “The fact the child has been missing for five weeks, of course, makes it more difficult for us.”

The young girl remains unaccounted for.

If you know where she is, or think you have seen her, call CrimeLine at (800) 423-TIPS.

Stay with News 13 for more on this developing story.

2-year-old girl missing for more than a month

Susan Jacobson and Willoughby Mariano | Sentinel Staff Writers
July 17, 2008

She's 3 feet tall, loves her teddy bear and hosts tea parties with her stuffed pig and Elmo doll at a toddler's picnic table.

The last time her grandma and grandpa saw her, she was moving out of their Lee Vista-area home with her mom.

The question is, where is Caylee Marie Anthony?

The 2-year-old girl hasn't been seen in more than a month, and her grandparents are worried. So are Orange County investigators.

Caylee's mother, Casey Marie Anthony, 22, told detectives she dropped Caylee off at a baby sitter's house June 9 but that the child was not there when she went to pick her up.

She never notified deputies.

She didn't tell her parents.

She did her own investigation, she told detectives. She went to clubs that the baby sitter, a woman she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez, is known to frequent. She said she was afraid her daughter would get hurt if authorities got involved because she had seen that happen in movies.

Early Wednesday, Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, insisted her daughter call the Sheriff's Office. Now, detectives are asking for the public's help in finding Caylee -- and Gonzalez, who authorities think may not even exist.

Investigators discovered that the apartment Casey Anthony said belonged to the baby sitter had been vacant for nearly five months.

"It's difficult to sort through what we've been told, given that what we've been given was false," said Sgt. John Allen of the sheriff's child-abuse unit.

Detectives are retracing Anthony's steps and trying to locate people who may have seen her with -- or without -- Caylee in the past month.

Cindy Anthony has been asking her own questions. Where is Caylee? she has asked her daughter. Can I see her?

Caylee is fine, Casey Anthony has replied. We're living together with friends.

"I've been asking my daughter for the last month to talk to Caylee," Cindy Anthony said. "All I want is Caylee."

Casey Anthony was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She was being held late Wednesday without bail at the Orange County Jail.

When questioned by deputies, Anthony did not "show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child. She did not cry or give any indication that she was legitimately worried about her child's safety," according to an arrest report. "She remained stoic and monotone during a majority of our contacts."

But her mother insists Anthony has been a good mom.

"And I could never dream she'd put her in harm's way," Cindy Anthony said.

Investigators are wading through a stack of information to try to come up with the truth. For instance:

*Allen, the child-abuse detective, said Anthony initially insisted she worked at Universal Studios and provided a phone extension and the name of her supervisor. All proved false, Allen said. In fact, Anthony was fired from the theme park in April 2006, according to the report.

*Anthony told investigators that Caylee's father is dead. They don't know whether that's true.

*Since Caylee's disappearance, two friends said Anthony told them her daughter was at theme parks or the beach with a nanny, according to investigators.

*Acquaintances describe Anthony as "a habitual liar" who stole checks and $700 from one woman, according to Anthony's arrest report. No charges have been filed.

Anyone with information about Caylee can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

Toddler Missing For More Than A Month
Thursday, July 17, 2008

ORLANDO -- 22 year old Casey Anthony says she dropped off her daughter a month ago with a babysitter and friend. She says she has not seen the girl since.

Orange County Sheriff's learned of the girls disappearance on Tuesday after 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony's grandparents reported her missing. Anthony was arrested for child neglect and providing false information to law enforcement.

Now the grandparents and Orange County Investigators want to know why her mother never reported the Caylee missing. According to authorities Casey says she was worried her daughter might be harmed if the police were notified. Casey says that's why she lied to her parents, telling them the girl was ok.

Orange County Sheriff's Investigators thought it was suspect after they attempted to question fellow coworkers at a local theme park and learned Casey lied about working there.

Casey's grandparents thought her actions were bizarre, saying she was always a good mother, but they called authorities anyway.

Investigators say they cannot locate the friend Casey claims she left the child with. Her first court appearance is scheduled Thursday.

Judge denies bond for mother of missing 2-year-old daughter

Walter Pacheco, Susan Jacobson and Willoughby Mariano | Sentinel Staff Writer
9:53 AM EDT, July 17, 2008

A judge this morning denied Casey Marie Anthony bond, saying she showed "no regret or concern for her actions" following the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony.

Despite Casey Anthony's lack of a criminal history, Orange County Judge John Jordan said no condition of release could protect the community from harm.

Casey Anthony, 22, just nodded as Jordan offered his comments.

"You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist at an apartment you cannot identify and you lied to your parents about your child's whereabouts," Jordan said. "You cared so little about your child."

Jordan ordered that a mental health evaluation be conducted on Casey Anthony and that she have no unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 17.

Fla. Mother Waited 5 Weeks before Reporting Missing Baby Daughter
By Diane Smith
19:20, July 17th 2008

A Florida mother called police about her missing 2-year-old daughter five weeks after the baby went missing. The 22-year-old mother was charged with neglect and lying to police.

The woman identified by police personnel as Casey Anthony of Orlando, Florida, is being held without bond in Orange County. Unfortunately, her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony wasn’t found yet. A MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/cayleeismissing dedicated to the search was created.

The negligent mother entered court for hearing this morning. Judge John Jordan told her that she cared so little about her baby girl that she left her with a person who does not exist at an apartment she cannot identify, the Orlando Sentinel reported quoting the judge. Furthermore, Anthony lied to her parents about her child's whereabouts.

According to local news organizations, Anthony told investigators she left the girl with a babysitter at an Orlando apartment complex in early June. She said she has been searching to that woman ever since, but police investigators found out that the apartment where the babysitter was supposed to reside was vacant for more than four months. Moreover, the woman Anthony said was the babysitter said she doesn’t know the negligent mother, Central Florida News 13 reported.

"It's difficult to sort through what we've been told, given that what we've been given was false," Sheriff's Sgt. John Allen told the Orlando Sentinel.

The baby’s grandmother reported her missing and she said she did it so late because the mother kept telling her that Caylee was okay.

Caylee Anthony case: Police following leads in search for missing 2-year-old

Walter Pacheco, Bianca Prieto and Sarah Lundy | Sentinel Staff Writer
5:20 PM EDT, July 17, 2008

A trail of lies and unanswered questions today surround the disappearance of a 2-year-old girl reported missing by her mother more than a month after she vanished.

Investigators have not been able to pinpoint when Caylee Marie Anthony disappeared and are asking for anyone who may have seen the child since June to contact authorities.

Detectives spent the day talking with possible witnesses and following up on leads, Orange County Sheriff's Sgt. John Allen said at a 4 p.m. press conference.

Caylee's mom, Casey Marie Anthony, told officials that she dropped her daughter off with a baby sitter she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez on June 9 but the girl was gone when she returned to pick her up. Investigators have not been able to track down "Zenaida" and question whether she actually exists.

"We can't compel (Casey Anthony) to give us more information," Lee said.

Authorities seized some "electronic equipment" today in hopes it will help in the investigation. They questioned Anthony at length on Wednesday but have not spoken to her today. She is being held in the Orange County Jail and refused media requests for interviews.

"We have caught her in several lies," he said.

Joshua Duckett - the father of a missing Leesburg boy - was at the Orange County Sheriff's Office during the press conference. He said he was there to offer his help to the Anthony family. His three-year-old son, Trenton, is still missing.

"There is no reason anybody should be without their two-year-old," he said.

An Orange County judge denied Casey Anthony bond this morning, saying she showed "no regret or concern for her actions" following the disappearance of her daughter.

Despite Casey Anthony's lack of a criminal history, Judge John Jordan elected not to release her.

Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Casey Anthony Wednesday on suspicion of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation.

Since the arrest, Casey Anthony has weaved a tale of lies that have left investigators with little information and her family puzzled over the deception.

"At this point there is no indication that [Caylee] is deceased," Capt. Angelo Nieves said. "We don't know where she is. Our concern is for the child and to locate her."

Authorities have not issued an Amber Alert for the girl because the information they have does not meet the criteria, Nieves said. Detectives say they are challenged in the investigation because so much time has passed since she was last seen.

Cindy Anthony, the child's grandmother and the one who contacted investigators Wednesday, is hopeful that her smiling granddaughter with hazel eyes and light brown hair is safe and will be returned.

But she can't explain the lies her daughter told family and the authorities.

In early June, Casey Anthony told her mother she was being sent to Tampa for work and would be back in a few days, and later said she was going on a "mini-vacation" with friends. Cindy Anthony never thought much of it.

"I had no reason to believe they weren't where they were supposed to be," Cindy Anthony said. "I don't know why she fabricated this."

Casey Anthony told detectives she dropped Caylee off at a baby sitter's house June 9, but that the child was not there when she went to pick her up.

She did her own investigation, she told detectives. She went to clubs that the baby sitter is known to frequent. She said she was afraid her daughter would get hurt if authorities got involved because she had seen that happen in movies.

Investigators discovered that the apartment Casey Anthony said belonged to the alleged Zenaida Gonzalez had been vacant for nearly five months. Detectives later located a woman named Gonzalez, but she did not recognize the mother or daughter from pictures.

Deputies showed Casey Anthony a picture of Gonzalez and she admitted not recognizing the woman.

She told deputies she worked at Universal Studios and named people who could vouch for her. When deputies drove her to the theme park, officials confirmed that neither she nor the people she mentioned worked for the park. Still, she "walked with purpose and acted like she knew where she was going," the sheriff's report shows.

Friends described Casey Anthony to deputies as a "habitual liar" who once stole $700 and checks from a friend. She also told a former boyfriend on June 25 that she would be free to get together because her daughter was "with the nanny and that they had gone to the beach for the weekend."

When questioned by deputies, Casey Anthony did not "show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child….she continued to claim ignorance and at times, laughed about the situation," according to an arrest report.

But her mother insists Casey Anthony has been a good mother.

"Like everyone, [Casey Anthony] has good and bad days," her mother said.

The family has set up four MySpace pages with the hopes of someone finding Caylee.

"To hear her say 'I love you...'" her grandmother said, her voice beginning to break. "This little girl has been the light of my life for the last three years."

Anyone with information about Caylee can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

MySpace Used In Search For Missing Toddler
By Jason Lee Miller - Thu, 07/17/2008 - 4:21pm.

The family of a missing toddler have set up a MySpace profile in efforts to make contact with anyone who can help locate her. Two year-old Caylee Marie Anthony has been missing since around June 9th, but, in a bizarre story leaving her mother a prime suspect, wasn't reported missing until July 15th.

Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, told police she hadn't seen her daughter in five weeks, but didn't report her missing until confronted by her parents about the toddler's whereabouts. She claimed fear of police involvement causing harm to Caylee as the reason for not reporting it.

But Anthony's behavior is much stranger than simply not reporting her missing child. The initial story she gave police and her parents was she had dropped Caylee off at her babysitter's July 9th between 9:00 and 1:00, which is a strange time lapse itself, and hadn't seen her since. Upon investigation, however, Anthony's story proved more and more fictional.

The apartment she gave as the babysitter's residence had been vacant for nearly five months. No one at the apartment complex had heard of the babysitter, whose name matched a woman who had filled out a visitor's card there once. Police said the woman had never heard of either Casey or her daughter Caylee.

Anthony's employment was also fabricated, but went so far as to stick with her story to the point of leading police down her supposed workplace hallways in search of her office, which didn't exist. Most disturbing: The investigating officer says in his report Anthony showed no emotion as to the loss of her child, no concern about the Caylee's wellbeing.

The officer also notes: "In the course of this investigation, I received calls from several persons who know the defendant. All claim she is a habitual liar and she has been known to steal from friends in the past."

Though forced to admit some falsehoods during the investigation, Casey has stuck to most of her original story that Caylee was kidnapped. She's being held without bond on charges of child neglect, obstructing a criminal investigation, and giving the police false statements.

Interestingly, her name and phone number is still listed on the MySpace page as a contact for information regarding Caylee's whereabouts, along with grandparents, her uncle, and the detective on the case.

A post below her picture reads as though she typed it:

i am almost 3 years old.
i have shoulder-length, light brown hair
and i have dark hazel (brown/green) eyes.
i have a birth mark on my left shoulder/arm.
i'm approximately 3 feet tall,
and weigh about 35 lbs.

Searching on MySpace for the word "missing" brings back results, but none on the first page appear to be legitimate missing persons postings. Even if any real postings came up, it seems because of the bizarre, highly sentimental, and timely nature of this case, Caylee will likely receive a lot more press attention.

But as far as search efforts go, posting Caylee's photo and description on MySpace seems like a smart move, and MySpace could serve as a central bulletin board for such things in the future. Perhaps MySpace should delegate a missing persons section to make it easier to find the postings, at least.

This case is sooo strange. IMO, the grandparents don't seem to believe Caylee's been hurt. Again this is only my impression and I know they are worried sick, but I get the feeling that they are used to manipulative behavior by Casey and this might be some kind of game she's playing with them. Since nothing that comes out of this girl's mouth is the truth, there's no way of knowing that Caylee's actually been gone for 5 weeks.
Didn't she have a boyfriend that was hispanic ? Maybe he took Caylee to Mexico.

I'm watching NG now and OMG, they're going to dig in the grandparent's back yard under the playhouse.

A cadaver dog was brought to the home's back yard and was searching around a pool area Thursday night.

When asked if the dogs could be searching for a body, a detective said anything is possible.

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene Thursday night.

She'd been living with her boyfriend for 3 weeks straight, she told him Caylee was with the nanny on vacation. Also on local 6, it was reported that CSI was there and took a shovel from a neighbor's garage as evidence. I think they've found her, why else would homicide detectives be there ?

One of the film clips being shown on Nancy Grace of Casey being escorted into a room/out of a room with cuffs on is disturbing... The half smile/smirk on her face as she comes through the door really, really bothers me... What the heck does this young woman have to smile about? Her daughter is missing and she is under arrest!

Maybe it's just me, but the look on her face makes me want to :104511:

This is so sad. I felt right from the begining that something had happened to this poor baby. It just makes sick to hear of these cases where babies disappear and then the parents act like to do not care. I believe that the grandma did the right thing in reported her missing to the police. I really have a hard time how some parents do not act like it is no big deal when their child is missing.

I pray they find this poor child.

This is a Trenton all over again; I hate to say the following, but this is as honest as I can be:

I believe that the mother killed, sold, or gave away her child, sadly I believe the first is most likely.

I believe that the grandmother is in deep denial...I watched her on NG tonight, and she first said that her daughter was a wonderful mother, but took the child on vaction for 'bonding' because it was hard to bond with the grandparents around...and her daughter was a 'good mother' then why would the grandmother even consider calling LE? She says she trusts her daughter, but then calls LE? Sorry that makes no sense at all...I think there is something really horrible in this family.

The 'new boyfriend' reminds me of Diane Downs and Susan Smith...kids crimp the style...

I checked the transcripts of the grandmother are not up yet...but we need to discuss what the grandmother said...and if you really listen to her words, again sadly, I am sure that we will all see that this family has deep issues...at this point...I don't feel sympathy for anyone but that baby..

Faith, they moved the playhouse...and if she buried the child under it, deep enough, it would not be noticed.

I am crying...I don't think this child will be found...and if found she will not be in this world...I do believe that another angel got her wings.

The grandmother...I dunno...something is not right in that family...something dark perhaps, but when she defends her daughter in one breath, but in the next says she called LE...and says in the next that 'at my age, I know what I would do...but at her age...she may have been confused...'

WTF....my eight year old ran home from down the street when he saw a car unfamiliar the driver asking kids if they saw his dog....(turned out it was harmless, he really lost his dog)...but what mother would not be in a panic? According to NG...the apt. she says she dropped the child off at was empty for 5 months, the place she took LE to, that she claimed she worked, she was fired from quite a while back..and she also claimed to be doing her 'own investigation'.....

This, IMO, will shock us all...

Prayers for that sweet baby..

Caylee Marie Anthony Disappearance Timeline

Thursday, July 17,

ORLANDO -- Casey said that on June 9, she dropped Caylee off at a babysitter who lived at the Sawgrass Apartments. She said the babysitter's name was Zenaida Gonzalez.

Authorities tracked down Gonzalez, but she said she did not know Casey Anthony. In fact, the apartment complex says nobody has lived at the apartment where Anthony said she left Caylee, for 142 days.

Mother and daughter lived with Casey's parents -- George and Cindy Anthony. George Anthony told News 13 that Casey had given them the impression she had been going to work every day and that Caylee was staying with friends or a nanny.

On July 12, police said, after not seeing Caylee for some time, her grandparents got concerned and confronted Casey and convinced her to go to the sheriff's office.

Anthony was arrested Wednesday (July 16, 2008) . Investigators said they're not sure if anything she is saying is true, since she has already lied to them, saying she worked at a local theme park when she didn't.

“Obviously, if we had been notified the day the child turned up missing, we could have started looking for the child immediately,” said Sgt. Allen Lee from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. “The fact the child has been missing for five weeks, of course, makes it more difficult for us.”

That makes sense, but I saw footage of them picking up and moving a very large child's playhouse that was sitting over a large mound of sand. The only thing is, if she was smart enough to bury her under the playhouse, you'd think she's be smart enough to bury her in a more remote location.
I'm being too morbid, grandma seems to think she's alive. Sad, but I hope she gave her away or sold her to someone that wanted a child. Looking at this baby, I can't imagine anybody not wanting her.

Search Dogs, Digging Tools Brought To Grandparents' Home
Thursday, July 17, 2008 11:51:25 PM

ORLANDO -- Crews suspended their search in the backyard of Caylee Anthony's grandparents' house late Thursday night until at least 8 a.m. Friday.

On Thursday night, search dogs and digging equipment were brought in. For now investigators said they're just trying to rule things out.

“This is part of the investigation,” said Carlos Padilla from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. “Right now we're trying to rule out any possibilities. You know again during an investigation you try to confirm or rule things out, so right now, according to the detectives handling this, they're trying to figure out if the child had ever been back there after she went missing."

Detectives also removed items from the home earlier in the day, and took a shovel from a neighbor's home.

Missing Girl's Mother Denied Bond

Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, 22, remains locked up without bond.

She appeared before a judge Thursday who ordered her to remain in jail because she showed a "woeful disregard for the welfare of her child" and has told authorities a string of lies.

She was also ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

Casey was arrested Wednesday on child neglect charges and for lying to investigators.

Meanwhile, deputies continue to plead with the public to come forward with information as to the little girl's whereabouts.

They said their investigation has been slowed down because it took so long for them to learn there was trouble.

Authorities said they haven't issued an Amber Alert in this case because her disappearance doesn't meet the specified criteria.

Girl Spotted On July 12

Some friends told the Anthonys that they had spotted Caylee on July 12 in a shopping area somewhere along the Orange-Seminole County line. It was not known who the child was with at the time. When she was last seen, Caylee was wearing a blue and pink outfit and white-rimmed sunglasses.

Friends Call Casey Anthony A "Habitual Liar"

Many of the people police talked to about Casey said she was a "habitual liar."

Casey had told investigators that she worked at Universal Orlando, but the theme park said she had been fired two years ago.

Anthony did not give authorities the name of Caylee's father, but told them that he is dead. However, police said they are taking that information with a grain of salt because of the many lies they had already heard.

When I think of how my own Mom would have reacted if one of us gave her a flimsy excuse about where one of her grandchildren was, it makes my head spin. She was a very kind-hearted woman but if she had any doubt about the safety of a grandchild, she would have taken immediate action - waiting 5 weeks is incomprehensible.

Caylee will be 3 in Aug.-she certainly is able to talk on a phone, why wouldn't her grandparents have insisted that Casey let them speak with her? I pray that Caylee is safe, but there are so many things that don't make any sense. This child looks so happy and well-cared for in her pictures, it really makes me wonder whether the grandmother didn't know, somewhere deep inside, that something was terribly wrong but was afraid to face her fears.

Crews Digging Up Yard After Cadaver Dogs Zero-In On Areas In Missing-Girl Search
Girl Missing 5 Weeks Never Reported Lost; Mother Doing Own Search

POSTED: 7:06 pm EDT July 17, 2008
UPDATED: 11:46 pm EDT July 17, 2008

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Crews dug in a back yard belonging to the grandparents of a missing 2-year-old girl late Thursday after cadaver dogs zeroed-in on areas at the property.

Several sheriff's dogs were called to the home of Cindy and George Anthony, located on Hopespring Drive in Orlando after a tip about a borrowed shovel led officers to the home, Local 6 reported.

The couple's daughter, Casey Anthony, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday after it was determined her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, 2, had been missing since early June. Anthony did not report her daughter missing for five weeks, police said.

Thursday, officers received a tip from a neighbor who said Casey Anthony borrowed a shovel from them not long ago. The neighbor said Anthony borrowed the shovel for about an hour and then gave it back.

The tip sparked a search of the property and the shovel was taken into evidence.

"We will search the entire yard with dogs and other methods, Orange County sheriff's Sgt. John Allen said. "We are not here to dig the entire yard up, but we are going to use dogs and probes to search the yard."

When asked if the dogs could be searching for a body, a detective said anything is possible.

"We certainly want to find the child alive, but we want to be prudent and follow up every lead we get," Allen said.

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene Thursday night.

More Inconsistencies Found

Meanwhile, investigators said they still don't know what to make of the mysterious case because there have been so many inconsistencies in Anthony's story.

"As we continued to investigate, we've found more inconsistencies in the mother's story so we continue to look for witnesses and people who may have additional information," Orange County sheriff's Sgt. John Allen said during a Thursday news conference.

Investigators said what Anthony has said so far during the investigation has been lies, Local 6 reported.

Judge Questions Mother

Earlier Thursday, Orange County Judge John Jordan asked Anthony where her daughter was.

"Mrs. Anthony, the court would say to you, 'Where is Caylee Anthony?' Jordan asked. "But I can't force you to answer that question but that is the question I leave with you. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir," Anthony said.

Anthony did not say anything else.

"You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist, with a person who does not exist in an apartment you can't identify and you lied to your parents and friends concerning your daughter's whereabouts," Jordan said during Anthony's appearance.

Anthony did not respond.

Tips Offered In Case

During the news conference, Allen said people have already provided "helpful" information in the case but some specifics remain unknown.

"We have been able to talk to different people who have called in since you have put our bulletin out and some of those people have given us information that has been helpful," Allen said. "But we can't say exactly when the child disappeared."

Allen asked for more help from the public.

"Anybody who may have seen the child and mother together during the middle of June or since the middle of June, we need those people to call us as well," Allen said.

Allen also said detectives have done some searches and have taken in some electronic equipment in the case.

Detectives are still searching for the child's father.

Anthony Says Doing Own Investigation

Meanwhile, when detectives initially questioned Anthony, she told them that she was doing her own investigation into her daughter's disappearance during the last five weeks, Local 6 reported.

The woman also said she saw movies and reports that if people in similar situations went to police, they had gotten hurt.

Anthony said her daughter was with a baby sitter at the Sawgrass apartments but on June 9, the sitter did not answer the door.

Detectives said they checked with apartment management and learned that no one has lived in the apartment for five months.

Late Wednesday, Caylee's alleged baby sitter was tracked down by detectives and the woman said she has never cared for the missing child.

Officers said she admitted to lying throughout her interrogation.

"It is difficult to sort through what we are being told," Allen said.

Mother Shows No Emotion

During questioning, detectives said Anthony did not show any emotion over the loss of her child. She did not cry or give any indication she was legitimately worried.

"It appears to the court that you care so little for your child that you did not even report her missing until five weeks later," Jordan said Thursday.

Since investigators cannot get a straight story, they said they are focusing on finding Caylee.

"I feel the more media exposure we have, the quicker we can bring Caylee home and that is the whole point of all of this -- to bring Caylee home safely," Caylee's grandmother Cindy Anthony said. "I kind of felt hopeless last night but I kind of felt hopeful today."

Reporter Susan Jacobson said from the scene of the search for 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony that a second cadaver dog -- Bones -- has been brought to the home the little girl, her mother, Casey Marie Anthony, had lived with her parents northeast of Orlando International Airport. Bones was brought in by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office to offer a second dog's nose in the backyard.

Two additional shovels and other digging tools also were brought to the scene, authorities said.

GRACE: Everybody, when we come back, police desperately searching for a beautiful little girl, Caylee. After the grandparents report her missing, we learn Caylee last seen five weeks ago. Why hasn`t Mommy called police? Tonight, where is 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Casey Anthony is a 22-year-old mother. That`s a fact. This is her beautiful 2-year-old Caylee. That`s also true. But the rest of the story is blurry at best, false at worst.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, it`s difficult to sort through what we`re being told.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Detectives say they got a called from Caylee`s grandparents early this morning who just found out that Caylee had been missing for a month.

CINDY ANTHONY, MISSING 2-YR-OLD GIRL`S GRANDMOTHER: And I had every hope that when I found Casey Caylee was with her. And when Caylee wasn`t with her, and Casey couldn`t produce Caylee, then I knew something was wrong. Mother`s intuition, I had gut feeling something wasn`t write so I called the sheriff`s department.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

GRACE: A beautiful 2-year-old little girl is missing. Right now we have a live shot. Breaking news, there in the backyard of the home that was shared by the family, we have learned that police are gathering, they are converging in the backyard around an apparently a plastic playhouse. They have lifted it up.

Also there in the backyard, we see German shepherd dogs. We don`t know at this juncture whether they are cadaver dogs or search dogs. We do than little Caylee has been gone now for several weeks. Weeks had passed without the mother reporting her missing.

Joining me right now on the scene is Kendra Oestreich with WESH.

Kendra, what can you tell me?

KENDRA OESTREICH, REPORTER, WESH: Well, I can tell you right now Orange County investigators are searching the home of Cindy and George Anthony here in Orange County, Florida.

They brought in a couple shovels just moment ago and they are digging in the backyard. They brought in two large shovels, two smaller shovels, and as you said, they have moved to the playground off. They have been focusing on a sandy area around that.

Neighbors in this area apparently told the investigators that they saw Casey, the little girl`s mother, here recently alone when her parents, the grandparents in this case, were not here. And so they`re just making sure that it`s possible, whether or not Casey might have buried Caylee, a little 2-year-old girl, here in the backyard.

GRACE: With me, Kendra Oestreich from WESH, joining us right there on the scene. You are seeing a chopper shot of the backyard. This little girl apparently had been gone for weeks without her mother ever reporting it then get confronted by cops after her grandparents, the grandmother and grandfather, became very, very concerned. And they called police.

The mom told police, Kendra, apparently, that she had been conducting her own investigation?

OESTREICH: That`s right. And investigators say that Casey, the mother in this case, has told them lie after lie. Her story was that she dropped off Caylee, the little girl, on June 9th at a friend`s house, Zenaida Gonzalez. But investigators haven`t been able to find this Zenaida Gonzalez or know even if she even exists.

She says she dropped the little girl off and then headed to work. When she returned to the apartment complex, both the friend and Caylee were apparently gone.

But again, this girl has told them lie after lie. She even went as far as to take them to Universal Studios the other day, saying, "I work here," was leading them through an office complex saying, "This is where I work," and in the middle of that, all of a sudden she stopped and said, "You know what, I don`t work here."

Come to find out she was fired from the theme park back in 2006.

So investigators are having a hard time, you know, telling heads from tales from what this mother is actually telling them. Her story versus what is reality and the worst fear, of course, is if this little girl is here in the backyard.

GRACE: When the neighbors, Kendra, saw her, the mom, in the backyard, when the grandparents were not there, what was she doing?

OESTREICH: Well, apparently investigators just told us only that, that a neighbor is what led them to search here at the house again and that`s all we know at this point. Just that there is some concern that potentially when she was at this house that she was maybe up to no good.

GRACE: Kendra, is that a cadaver dog that is with the police?

OESTREICH: That`s what police are thinking -- our spokesperson here believe that must be the case because usually when they`re using canines to search, track a suspect, is a different kind of dog. This dog is likely trained to be searching for remains here in this backyard.

GRACE: With me right now is a special guest. This is Caylee`s grandmother Cindy Anthony.

Miss Anthony, thank you for being with us. Are you with me, Miss Anthony?

ANTHONY: Yes, I am.

GRACE: Miss Anthony, first of all, our prayers are with you right now at this moment because there is a chance that the little girl is still alive. There is a very distinct chance.

ANTHONY: Absolutely. Absolutely.

GRACE: What happened, Miss Anthony?

ANTHONY: I don`t know what`s happened. I don`t know what`s happened. That`s why I`m here trying to ask the public if they can find Caylee, because I still believe she`s alive.

GRACE: Tell me why do you believe that?

ANTHONY: A gut feeling, because anybody that looks at this little girl will fall madly in love with her and there`s no -- no way that anybody would not want to have her around because you just -- when you`re around her all you feel is her magic.

GRACE: When you spoke to Casey, did anything she said make sense? I mean everything she`s told police so far has been a pack of lies, one after the next.

ANTHONY: Well, no, when I spoke with Casey on Tuesday, nothing made sense. That`s why I called the police. I`ve been told Tuesday, everything made sense to me. I`ve communicated with my daughter, every day since the last time I saw her, which was -- I -- the last time I saw Casey and Caylee was June 8th.

My husband saw them both leaving on June the 9th. Actually my husband saw Casey a week or two after that at the house when she came by to pick up some things. And we haven`t seen Casey -- or Caylee, though, since the 8th and the 9th.

But Casey gave me an explanation where she was and it was very -- it was very, you know, believable. And I had no reason to ever doubt my daughter. My daughter has been nothing but a loving mother. I mean I`ve never had any evidence otherwise.

And it`s not like I don`t see them every day. I mean, Casey has always lived with me, you know? She was 19 when Caylee was born. And so naturally, Caylee, when she came home from the hospital, there was a room in the house that was Caylee`s room. And so that`s been their home for, you know, as long as they`ve both been alive.

I mean we moved to Orlando in 1989. And that`s how long we`ve been, you know, at that -- you know, at that residence. And that`s been Casey`s, you know, home.

Casey actually was a little bit older. She was about 3 1/2 when we moved there. And Caylee`s going to be 3 in a month. So there`s a little - - you know, a lot of the similarities there. Caylee is a spitting image of her mother when she was little.

GRACE: How many weeks had your granddaughter been missing before she was finally reported to police as missing?

ANTHONY: I don`t know. Casey states that she`s been missing since June 9th. I haven`t seen her since June 8th but I had no reason to believe that she was missing until Tuesday which was July 15th.

GRACE: And what happened on that day?

ANTHONY: I found out that she wasn`t where she said she was. I found out that Caylee was not in the city that she said she was and so when I found her and Caylee wasn`t with her like she had told me she was with her for the last month, then, you know, I asked her, "Well, let`s go get her because I miss her. I want to go see her. I want to bring her home so she can sleep in her bed."

And when she told me that, you know, it was to late to go because she was already sleeping at the babysitter`s house and, you know, why disrupt her because, you know, wake her up and then have to bring her home and then she`ll be up all night, let`s just go pick her up in the morning, and, you know, I said, no, I`m selfish, I want to see my granddaughter, I haven`t seen her in a month.

And I guess a little bit of tone in Casey`s voice, "no, mom," you know, she was pretty persistent and insistent, and then I got a gut feeling that -- I just knew something was wrong and Casey couldn`t tell me.

So I told her, you know, to either take me to her or I`m going to bring someone that could take me to her and so I told her that I was going to call the sheriff`s department if I didn`t.

GRACE: What did she say when you told her you were calling the sheriff?

ANTHONY: She said go ahead and call them. She said, you know, I know why where she`s at, I`ll tell them where she`s at. So, you know, I called them and by the time they got there, she was -- had told us that Caylee had been kidnapped. And Caylee was.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Where is Caylee Anthony? Well I can`t -- I can`t force you to answer that question but that`s the question I leave with you. Do you understand?

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony remains missing and detectives continue to plot through a tangled web of what they consider to be lies told by the 22-year-old.

Detectives say that Anthony claimed she dropped her daughter off at this apartment on June 9th and when she came back the babysitter was gone. It turns out no one has lived here in five months. We`re told Anthony admitted to lying about many details. But she has not said anything about the location of her daughter.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

GRACE: In fact, as it turns out, nearly everything she told police was a lie.

I want to go out to Marc Klaas, founder of Beyondmissing.com. What should police be doing right now?

MARC KLAAS, FOUNDER, BEYONDMISSING.COM, FATHER OF MURDER VICTIM POLLY KLAAS: Well, I`ll tell you what they should be doing -- they`re doing a very good job of responding to this very difficult situation. They got the public involved right away. They`ve got this woman in custody.

And you know, this woman has the answer. She either killed, sold, or gave away this little girl. And just like in the Trenton Duckett case, they have to keep an eye on this woman because if she`s not on a suicide watch, she should be, because if she were to die, she will take the answer with her.

At some point they`ve got to lean on her. They`ve got to get her to tell them the truth. That`s all they can do.

GRACE: To Rory O`Neill with Metro Networks, Marc Klaas has an excellent point. Where is the mom right now?

RORY O`NEILL, REPORTER, METRO NETWORKS: Well, the judge in the case ordered that she be held at the Orange County jail without bond and pending an investigation, pending an evaluation. So she will be held up in the jail without any chance of being released at least for the time being.

GRACE: An evaluation for what?

O`NEILL: A mental evaluation.

GRACE: OK. That`s not good.

To Cindy Anthony -- this is Caylee`s grandmother -- a mental evaluation, did your daughter have any history of mental disturbance?

ANTHONY: No. No, no history of mental illness.

GRACE: What do you make of her telling police she left the daughter in this apartment. The cops go there, nobody`s lived there in months. Everything she says doesn`t make any sense.

ANTHONY: You know I can`t comment on that. I don`t know. I`m not in Casey`s head. I`m not a psychiatrist. I thought I was here today to discuss Caylee. Not to defend what my daughter`s doing.

GRACE: Tell us then what you want the public to know about your granddaughter.

ANTHONY: Well, I want the public to know is this a beautiful little girl and what I want the public to know is if you see her, to pick up the phone and to call. And -- I don`t care what city, you know, where you`re at, if you think you`re going to get your friend in trouble or whatever you pick up the phone and you call anyway.

This little girl is our entire life. And I still believe she`s alive because I do not believe that my daughter did any harm to her child. My daughter has been nothing but a loving mother and I have seen that for the last three years.

The only thing that raised a red flag to me is the fact that Casey could not tell me where she was at. I do not know why. Casey may be dealing with this in her own way. She may not be able to -- I don`t know. When something tragic happens, our, you know, we don`t know how we`re going to handle it.

I know how I would handle it now at being the age that I am. But a 22-year-old does not always make the right decisions. I cannot answer. No one knows what the person`s going through. I mean what they`re doing, you know, when something tragic like this happens, and I saw Casey break down.

I saw Casey cry. And a lot of people are stating that they haven`t seen it. I did see it. Casey spent the night with me. Well, the night was over. It was all day with me from Tuesday to Wednesday, you know, I was with her for several hours.

Casey created the Caylee Marie Anthony missing MySpace page. Casey was instrumental in connecting a lot of what -- a lot of what we`re doing right now, you know? And her efforts -- those efforts have not been shown on the camera.

So right now, Casey`s not on trial. Right now, Caylee is missing. And that`s the word that I want to get out to everybody. Caylee`s missing. This little girl needs to be found so instead of thinking that she`s already dead or you know something`s already -- there`s no -- there`s no -- there`s no answer yet. And we have to find that answer.

GRACE: The tip line to help find Caylee is 800-423-TIPS, 800-423- 8477.

We have no suggestion this little girl is dead. There is a distinct possibility she may still be alive.

Out to Kendra Oestreich, WESH, there on the scene -- what more can you tell us, Kendra?

OESTREICH: Well, the lead investigator in the case just came out to brief us on progress. They say they are searching every area in this backyard. I can tell you that CSI investigators brought out a shovel from a neighbor`s home earlier tonight and they took that into evidence as well.

They say they`ll be here throughout the night searching until they do find those answers that the family is looking for.

Now I can also tell you that investigators talked with several of Casey`s friends, saying that they saw her June 2nd, and she didn`t seem or give any indication that there was anything wrong that Caylee was missing. Her story was that Caylee was always with a nanny at the beach or at a theme park and never really gave any indication that there was anything wrong Caylee.

Now investigators said when they were talking to her yesterday, she showed no sign of remorse or concern that her 2-year-old daughter was missing. That also concerns investigators as well as getting no answers from her yet, even today.

GRACE: With us there on the scene is Kendra Oestreich with WESH.

What exactly are police doing there in the backyard right now, Kendra?

OESTREICH: Well, basically they are exhausting all possibilities at this point. They want to make sure that Caylee`s not here. They`re using a tool to poke into the ground to see if there is any soft spots and just make sure that nothing is back here, using a dog, another one is on its way, and they`re just hoping to find answers here.

Where is Caylee?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANTHONY: I`ve never seen her be a bad mom. She`s -- she loves her daughter. I don`t doubt that. Casey has been a very wonderful, caring mother. And I`ve never seen anything to not believe her.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Where is little Caylee?

With us right now, her grandmother. This is where Caylee lived her whole life.

Back to Cindy Anthony, Caylee`s grandmother, well, for the last month, where did you believe they were?

ANTHONY: I believe Caylee was with her mom. They needed some time to bond. It`s been very difficult for Casey to, you know, have Caylee all the time when my husband and I -- you know want to spend time with her as well.

So Casey`s 22 years old. She wanted -- she told me that she wanted some space. She wanted to go to work and then she wanted to go take a little vacation, take Caylee with her. So that`s where we thought she was.

I talked to my daughter all the time and always had a good explanation of where they were at. And it made some sense. I mean there was no reason to believe.

GRACE: Right.

ANTHONY: . that Casey and Caylee weren`t together at any time.

GRACE: Everyone.

ANTHONY: So...

GRACE: . please help us. There is a desperate search going on right now in the Orlando area for a beautiful 2-year-old little girl Caylee. The tip line is 800-423-8477.

I wish someone would do some background work on Casey. Her friends describe her as a compulsive liar-I wonder if she's always been this way, or is it a new behavior? I just have a sad, sick feeling inside-I don't think that anyone could be as 'frozen' as she is if there wasn't something terribly wrong with her mind. Her ex-fiance described her as a wonderful mother, if she accidently killed Caylee, she may have simply cracked and dissociated.

Yes, thank you, Tracian. I absolutely agree about the interview with the grandmother being "off." She got very defensive when NG asked about Casey-what did she expect? A baby is missing and the mother didn't report it.

The way I look at it is this grandmother has only known her daughter to be a good, loving mother. Oftentimes parents are kept in the dark about secrets in a child's life. So to me it's very possible that the grandmother knows nothing about Casey's habitual lying, etc. I think everything she has heard comes as a total shock to her. One thing that really strikes me in looking at the pics of Caylee......she looks like such a well cared for and well loved child. It is so obvious in those photos. She's dressed nicely, she looks extremely happy. And Casey, for that matter, looks entirely *normal*. Though of course, all her words and actions thus far are anything BUT normal.

It's a strange case, one of the strangest I've heard of in a long, long time. But I'm not ready to be suspicious of the grandmother. I think she's putting on hold, ANY feelings or suspicions SHE has about Casey....because her primary and ONLY concern right now is that little girl. In other words, she's not ready or willing to jump on the bandwagon of "something's very WRONG with Casey." Perhaps that's just too much for her to wrap her head around right now. She wants her granddaughter back, that's what's keeping her going.

CSI Teams Check Mother's Vehicle In Search For Missing 2-Year-Old
Crews are expected to continue digging in a home's yard in connection with the mysterious disappearance of a girl.

Several sheriff's dogs were called to the home of Cindy and George Anthony, located on Hopespring Drive in Orlando after a tip about a borrowed shovel led officers to the home, Local 6 reported.
Click here to find out more!

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene Thursday night and crime scene investigators were seen checking a car belonging to Anthony.

Where is Caylee Marie?
Police conduct grim search for 2-year-old girl

Walter Pacheco and Bianca Prieto | Sentinel Staff Writers
July 18, 2008

Cindy Anthony finds solace in her missing granddaughter's bedroom.

The small, tidy room, once filled with the laughter of 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony, is now eerily silent. Pictures of Winnie-the-Pooh line the walls and decorate the quilt on the toddler bed, and an empty chair at her tiny teatime table awaits Caylee's return.

Now it's a place where Cindy Anthony goes to hold on to the girl's favorite teddy bear and pray.

"I've found a lot of peace here the last few days," Cindy Anthony said. "There's an emptiness in my heart because she's not here."

Late Thursday, Orange County sheriff's deputies with hand shovels spent more than five hours digging through parts of Cindy Anthony's backyard. Two police dogs roamed the area in search of Caylee's scent. Investigators at one point moved a playhouse from its spot in the yard and looked at the ground beneath it.

They planned to return this morning at 8. "This is tedious work, and we're going very slow," said sheriff's Sgt. John Allen, who heads the child-abuse and missing-persons squad.

Their interest in the backyard grew when a neighbor told investigators the girl's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, had borrowed a shovel about a month ago. That shovel was taken as evidence earlier Thursday.

Investigators' work has been more difficult, they say, because of a web of lies Casey Anthony has told about her daughter's disappearance nearly five weeks ago.

"As we continue to investigate this, we find more inconsistencies in the mother's story, so we continue to look for witnesses," Allen said Thursday. But one investigator put it more bluntly in Anthony's arrest affidavit:

"Based on the repetitive lies that the defendant has told, we do not know with whom the child is or even if the child is alive," wrote Cpl. Yuri Melich of the missing-persons unit. "It should be noted that at no time during any of the above interviews did the defendant show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child."

Casey Anthony reported Caylee missing Wednesday -- after Cindy Anthony urged her to contact authorities.

Casey Anthony told officials she dropped her daughter off with a baby sitter she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez on June 9 but that the child was gone when she returned to pick her up. Investigators have questioned a Zenaida Gonzalez who said she had never met Anthony or Caylee. Detectives are looking for others with the same name.

The Sheriff's Office arrested Anthony late Wednesday on charges of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation.

Detectives spent Thursday talking with possible witnesses and following up leads, including seizing electronic equipment from the Anthony home. Crime-scene investigators carried a large item out of a house next door on Hopespring Drive. Casey Anthony and her daughter had lived with her parents at their Lee Vista home until June 9.

While deputies searched for Caylee, Casey Anthony remained locked up at the Orange County Jail. Investigators did not question her further Thursday.

Orange County Judge John Jordan denied Casey Anthony bail Thursday, chastising her behavior.

"You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist at an apartment you cannot identify, and you lied to your parents about your child's whereabouts," Jordan said. "You cared so little about your child."

Casey Anthony, who has no criminal record, nodded as Jordan spoke. The judge ordered a mental-health evaluation.

Casey Anthony, investigators say, created a trail of lies that has left them with little information.

"At this point, there is no indication that [Caylee] is deceased," Capt. Angelo Nieves said. "We don't know where she is. Our concern is for the child and to locate her."

Authorities have not issued an Amber Alert for the girl because the information they have does not meet the criteria, Nieves said. Detectives say they are challenged because so much time has passed since she was last seen.

"If we had been called the day she disappeared . . . it would have been much easier to find the child," Allen said.

Cindy Anthony can't explain the lies her daughter told.

In early June, Casey Anthony told her mother she was being sent to Tampa for work and would be back in a few days. Later, she said she was going on a "mini-vacation" with friends and taking Caylee with her. Cindy Anthony never thought much of it.

Casey Anthony told detectives she worked at Universal Studios and identified people who could vouch for her -- another lie. The apartment Casey Anthony identified as the place she left her child with Gonzalez in June has been vacant for five months.

"I had no reason to believe they weren't where they were supposed to be," Cindy Anthony said. "I don't know why she fabricated this."

Anyone with information about Caylee can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

I'm sorry, I didn't intend to sound so harsh. The grandmother clearly loves both Casey and Caylee with all her heart-I can't fathom what is going through her mind. I haven't seen her interviewed, only read NG and other accounts, but her speech is very disjointed-she is terribly frightened. My heart goes out to her.

I believe that Mrs Anthony may 100% believe what she's saying. However, she doesn't seem to want to look at her daughter in a negative light as any mother would do. Her mother is distraught that her daughter is lying so much and doesn't have an answer for that. I think her action is normal. However, I do think her mother knows a bit more than she is letting on about her daughter. We all know something about our children that we do not display on a daily bases. Perhaps her daughter is on drugs and her mother suspected it? but is not willing to admit it at this time. I'm just guessing, time will tell.

Digging Resumes In Back Yard During Search For Missing Girl
UPDATED: 8:58 am EDT July 18, 2008

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Crews were digging in a back yard belonging to the grandparents of a missing 2-year-old girl Friday after cadaver dogs zeroed-in on areas at the property.

Several sheriff's dogs were called to the home of Cindy and George Anthony, located on Hopespring Drive in Orlando after a tip about a borrowed shovel led officers to the home, Local 6 reported.
Click here to find out more!

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene Thursday night and crime scene investigators were seen checking a car belonging to Anthony.

I'm VERY disturbed Casey borrowed a shovel for an hour. I'm not sure, was a date given on that incident?

A neighbor told authorities on Thursday that the mother had borrowed a shovel a month ago.

Five Big Lies Hang Over Case Involving Mother Of Missing Toddler

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- There are five big lies investigators said Carey Anthony told them. Even seasoned detectives were astounded over how she kept up the charade for so long at Universal Studios, where she said she works, but it was all part of a pattern of lying.

Lie #1: Casey Anthony told detectives that she last saw 2-year-old Caylee after dropping her off at Sawgrass Apartments #210 on South Conway Road (see map) on June 9, but the apartment has been vacant since February.

Lie #2: Casey told detectives that she's an event planner at Universal Studios. They brought her to the park telling her they were hoping to find clues in her locker. She told security she had lost her identification and then led investigators on a long walk through the park until she finally admitted she was fired two years ago.

Lie #3: Casey told detectives Caylee's babysitter had once lived in an apartment building in Orlando, which they found is for seniors only. It is across the street from her friend's home, where she even stayed after Caylee disappeared.

"I am very, very close to the family. I was close to Casey," Amy Huizenga told Eyewitness News.

They were close, she said, until she recently accused Casey of stealing more than $700.

"I'm very worried for the child. Why not? She's been missing for a month. There's no reason not to be worried for this kid. I love her a lot. She's a great girl," she said.

Lie #4: Casey claims a woman named Zenaida Gonzalez is Caylee's longtime babysitter. When investigators talked to Gonzalez, she told them she doesn't know the Anthonys and has never been a babysitter.

Lie #5: Investigators say, during the time after Casey claims Caylee disappeared with the babysitter, she told her boyfriend Caylee was with the "nanny" at Disney.

According to the police report, Casey admitted up to lying about working at Universal and to everything else except one. She still insists she dropped Caylee off at the Sawgrass Apartments unit for the babysitter.

I am going to be harsh, because I honestly think something is not coming together with the family dynamic.

The grandmother says that her daughter took the baby so she could 'bond' with her; yet says she is a great mother, then says, it has been hard for her daughter to 'bond' because of living with them.

The grandmother tells her daughter to 'wake the baby up' and bring her home, or she will call LE....obviously, the grandmother had reasons for making such a threat, because if she really believes that her daughter is a 'great' mother, why on earth would she make such a threat, and then follow up by calling?

I know I am a cynic, when it comes to a story like this, something is horribly wrong. The grandmother has to know that her daughter lied throughout the interview with police, also, where has the daughter been working? How was she getting money if she was let go from Universal studios? This daughter and grandchild live with the grandparents, I just can't believe they were so in the dark about their daughter.

Well said Tracian, ICAM

When Casey left with Caylee where did the Grandmother think they were going to stay or live? I mean if Casey wasn't working or even if she was, common sense says someone would ask where she was going to live? Did they keep in contact via cell or landline phone, wouldn't if they talked on the phone she ask to talk to her granddaughter?

Like you said there are so many questions and so far many things are not adding up for me. .jmo

I do recall her saying she wanted to bond with the girl which I find strange. I think the mom is holding back on what she knows about her daughter b/c she loves her and doesn't want to believe she did anything to Caylee.

I'm a grandmother. If my son was in this position I would be at the jail finding out where my grandchild was. I don't know if they will allow her to visit her daughter but the daughter may break down and tell the mother if she doesn't already know.

I agree, I think the grandmother knows something more about her daughter; a person does not all of a sudden become a pathalogical liar, unless perhaps the daughter has some kind of drug problem.

Isabella brings up a good point:

If they were living with the grandparents, where did the grandparents believe Casey and her daughter were going to live? If they were that close, I would think that Casey would show her mother and father the place they were staying for such a long period of time.

Many questions.

Sorry I am coming in here late, but why did it take so long for this case to garner any attention. I receive posters from the NCMEC and found it odd that they just sent the girl to me two days ago and I looked at the missing date and thought to myself, WHY was this not released immediately?

I think there is a good explanation as this thread was just started a couple of days ago also and news just started talking about it as well.

Why so long?

Says search is expanding but seems to just include the original area, I thought maybe the were looking outside of the backyard/grandparents home area.

Hello Micky, I am new to this case but reading a post by Faith this is what her post says post #3

There was a delay in the reporting of this incident to the Sheriff’s Office. On July 15, the grandparents reported Caylee missing after confronting Casey regarding their granddaughter’s whereabouts and discovering she had not been seen by them or their daughter for well over a month.

My understanding and I could be wrong is that the girl Caylee has not been seen for a month but the mother Casey and Caylee had moved out so the grandmother didn't realize she was missing until July 15th, as soon as she did then it was reported. .jmo

That's upsetting. News conferences mean there's new evidence and since they're still in the backyard, I think we know what it's going to be.
I was thinking it would have been stupid for Casey to bury her in the back yard, but maybe she wanted her buried in a place that made Caylee happy, ie; the play house. I think Casey is dealing with this by convincing herself that Caylee is at the beach or Disneyland.

Since 8 a.m. Friday, a forensics team has been using rods that they place in the ground to see if there is anything under the dirt.

The police chief also recently announced that investigators have found abnormalities in the dirt, but would not elaborate on what was found.

Cadaver dogs have also been brought in to aid in the investigation.

Six to 10 deputies continue to search the backyard area. Meanwhile, two more remain outside the Anthony's home, patrolling the area to make sure the potential crime scene is not compromised.

Police have not released any information to whether their search has resulted in any leads, but do say the girl's grandparents remain cooperative in the investigation.

After thinking about this for a while. The cadaver dogs picked up a hit last night in the back yard. YET THEY ARE STILL SEARCHING. That means IMO they haven't found a body yet, right? Casey borrowed a shovel about a month ago from the neighbor for an hour. Mrs. Anthony just stated that there were some bamboo out there they were saving for Caylee. (Odd)

I don't buy the bamboo story. I think the child may be deceased and she was going to bury her in the backyard BUT the ground was too hard to dig deep enough. Therefore the dogs picked up on the body scent that was laying there waiting to be buried. From what I know about these dogs they do not mess up. So, Casey took the body somewhere else.

Can I ask a question...

The grandmother had not seen Caylee in about a month but do we actually know if anyone saw Caylee during that time until the Gandmother report her missing?
Is it possible whatever happened to Caylee it could have been in the last few days or so? Or it is certain whatever happened was on June 9th?

Cadaver Dogs, Investigators Search For Missing 2-Year-Old In Backyard

http://www.wftv.com/2008/0718/16920141_200X150.jpg

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- With dogs, shovels and manpower, investigators searched the backyard Friday of the home of the grandparents of a missing 2-year-old girl. Detectives said 22-year-old Casey Anthony has told numerous lies about her daughter's disappearance.

There's been no sign of 2-year-old Caylee Marie at the home on Hopespring Drive off Chickasaw Trail (see map). Investigators checked a new spot in her grandparents' backyard after a neighbor told them Caylee's mother had borrowed a shovel recently.

During a press briefing early Friday afternoon, investigators said they can't speak with Casey Anthony anymore because she has hired an attorney and it would be up to her to reach out to them with any information.

"Well, we spent the first day of the investigation with the mother prior to her arrest. We talked to her for a couple of hours. The initial information she gave us, we followed up on. Since her arrest, we have not had any contact with her," Sgt. John Allen said during Friday's press briefing. "We can't go back to the jail and talk to her at this point. If she were to contact us and indicate that she had information, we would certainly go back and talk to her. She's had an opportunity to tell us anything that she knows."

Investigators brought a cadaver dog back to the scene around noon Friday to check a spot toward the back of the backyard, in an area where there are some bushes. The fact that the dog was on scene is a sign that they haven't seen anything yet, but sometimes the evidence in a case like this might not be visible to the naked eye. Still, investigators were remaining optimstic.

"Just because we're here with cadaver dogs doesn't mean we're giving up that Caylee's not alive," Sgt. Allen said.

Investigators also pointed out late Friday morning that the grandparents' house is not the only focus of the investigation. Investigators said they have also searched Casey Anthony's vehicle, but did not disclose if they found anything.

"At this point we're still looking. We still have additional investigators and detectives. The others are still working on following up on leads they are still getting. [The grandparents' home] is just one facet of the investigation," explained Capt. Angelo Nieves, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Another possible lead came in late Friday morning from down the street, where a little boy thought he saw a toy in his yard that didn't belong to him. Investigators, though, don't seem to be shifting manpower in that direction.

The 2-year-old's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, is being held without bond in the Orange County jail. She's charged with felony child neglect. She had her first appearance in court Thursday, but did not say much to the judge.

I read somewhere (I will have to look it up) that someone saw her on July 12th. I can't recall if they saw Caylee or both mom and daughter. BRB I will look for that.

If this child turns up dead at the hands of her mother I will SCREAM.

All missing child cases bother me, but this one is something special....I dunno, something about that gorgeous little girl and how well cared for and loved she appears to be. And how "strange" that mother seems. I would take that girl in a heartbeat.....I can only imagine the grandma's pain over this.

I wonder who is paying or is it a public defender?
So LE can't get near her now.

I hope her mother can go see her and hope she breaks down and tells the truth.

I also wonder if she did drugs, could it be possible she doesn't even remember where she left her girl, assuming she didn't kill her?

Girl Spotted On July 12

Some friends told the Anthonys that they had spotted Caylee on July 12 in a shopping area somewhere along the Orange-Seminole County line. It was not known who the child was with at the time. When she was last seen, Caylee was wearing a blue and pink outfit and white-rimmed sunglasses.

I think I heard the police say the shovel borrowing was around a month ago, so this is confusing, if Caylee was seen July 12th well that wasn't that long ago.

Maybe she had something buried she dug up to take with her because she was leaving? I don't know sorry for the silly theories

This is what I think, and I am not happy thinking this way:

I think that Casey didn't like that her parents were so involved with her life, I think that Casey felt that she was stuck, and Caylee was part of the problem.

It was reported that Casey had/has a new boyfriend, and because of other cases, such as Diane Downs, and Susan Smith, I cannot help but think that Casey (god this is horrible) got 'rid' of Caylee so she could start out fresh.

I have posted this before, but IMO, something is wrong in this family, I find it nearly impossible to believe that the grandmother, Casey's mother never had any concerns about Casey, apparently many other friends know Casey lies, but her mother seems oblivious to this, also, what was Casey's plan? Disapear? Show up in a few days and just keep telling her mother Caylees was with 'friends'?

I have a feeling that this case is going to have many twists and turns, and until the family gets a grip and tells LE what they really know about Casey and her life, her patterns, Caylee should she still be alive is at risk.

I wonder what Casey told the neighbor when she borrowed the shovel. I know if I am borrowing anything from a neighbor I will usually say SOMETHING about what I need the item for. Like, "Hey could I borrow your shovel.....I don't have one....I'm working in my backyard and need it to get rid of some stumps....." I'd never go over and just say, "may I borrow your shovel?" :duh:

Well Tracian you have to admit.......Casey has been arrested and is sitting in jail. Anyone in that situation needs an attorney, guilty OR innocent. (I play devil's advocate SO well...:67302:). I really can't say that her having an attorney makes "something just not right." Something IS just not right, but that is Casey's weirdness and this whole case. But I wouldn't put the fact that she has an attorney in the same category. Hope I'm making sense......not always sure I write exactly what I mean. :67302:

What would you think if she DIDN'T get an attorney? That everything is all hunky dory, she's probably innocent of any wrong-doing?

I think she is guilty of something to do with that baby's disappearance, but I can't fault her for getting an attorney. I can't fault the parents for hiring one.

This is where I draw the line:

IF my child was missing, there would be no way in heaven or hell I would lawyer up while there is a chance my child is still alive, and if I had nothing to do with the disapearance.

Oh, I think she absoultely needs a laywer, because she claims her child has been missing for a month and didn't bother to mention it to anyone, but by her not helping in the investigation, lying to LE, and if they are telling the truth, to her parents, I think the chances are slim that that baby is still alive.

IF it was my daughter, she could rot in a cell, and deal with a PD if my grandchild was missing under such circumstances, I certainly would not hire an attorney to defend my daughter if my grandchild, whom, was last with my daughter, is missing. The grandparents have effectively cut the investigators off at the knees if they truly believe that their grandchild is out there somewhere; but because of their actions now, I believe that they know much more about where Caylee is then they are letting on.

I don't give a rat's butt about Casey right now, except what information that she could give to LE to find Caylee, that is her only value currently.

Since yesterday, I thought that the grandmother was less then sincere, her account and her description of her daughter is contracting, and I also don't think that with the ease that Casey lies that her mother didn't know that Casey has issues with the truth, I don't think this just suddenly happened.

She said that Casey was a good mother; yet, she had to get away from her parents so she could 'bond' with her child...that makes no sense, a good mother is bonded with her child.

She said that Casey was a good mother, yet she threatened then called LE when her daughter, the good mother, refused to bring the child home when the grandmother wanted her too...Why? If she thinks that her daughter is a good mother, why would she feel the need to make that threat, and then follow through?

She said she cannot understand why Casey lied, but then hires an attorney to help defend her daughter, that was the last person to see that baby alive, and the lawyer is not letting her talk.

I don't know if they had a chance to speak to Casey at some point, but I do think and I thought the same last night, the grandmother is not telling everything she knows, at the very least about Casey.

I believe in the grandparents eyes she was a good mother. However, Casey may have not liked what was happening at the grandparents house regarding Caylee. Perhaps Casey got onto Cayleee and grandma/pa may say C'mere let me love you or something similar. OR perhaps the grandparents got onto Casey for how she was parenting, maybe they didn't 100% agree. OR, maybe Casey thought the grandparents were too involved with Caylee, meaning they took over.

Just guessing here.

Police Ask For Help; Fla. Toddler Missing 5 Weeks
Child Not Reported Missing Until Wednesday

ORLAND, Fla. -- Police have asked for the public's help in locating a 2-year-old Orlando girl who has been missing for more than five weeks.

Police said Caylee Anthony wasn't reported missing until two days ago.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies dug in the back yard of Caylee's grandparents on Thursday night, after a neighbor said the girl's mother, Casey Marie Anthony, borrowed a shovel from them about a month ago.

Investigators used search dogs, cadaver dogs and tools to comb the yard for clues.

"Just because we used cadaver dogs, it doesn't mean we are assuming she's dead," said Sgt. John Allen, at a Friday news conference.

Casey Anthony was held without bond on charges of child neglect and lying to the authorities.

"You left your 2-year-old child Caylee Anthony with a person who does not exist, at an apartment you can not identify and you lied to your parents and friends concerning your child's whereabouts," Judge John Jordan said during the bond hearing. "You didn't even report her missing until five weeks later and then only because the child's grandmother insisted."

The mother's boyfriend talked to ABC affiliate WFTV http://www.wftv.com/news/16906025/detail.html in Orlando and wouldn't say if he thought Casey Anthony killed her daughter.

"I don't want to say yes or no to that. I really don't know," Jesse, who didn't want his last name used, told the TV station.

The 22-year-old mother told police she dropped the child off with a baby sitter on June 9 and hadn't seen either of them since. She said she was conducting her own "investigation" in an effort to locate her daughter.

The girl's grandmother alerted police on Wednesday.

Investigators said they tried to question people at Casey's workplace, but she lied to them about working at a Universal Studios. Sources told WFLTV News that she even led investigators around the park, saying she was taking them to her employee locker.

"It's things like that which causes concern. This is time we could've spent trying to locate the child," said Sgt. Allen.

Search For Missing Fla. Toddler Caylee Continues
Forensic detectives find "abnormalities" in dirt
Last Edited: Friday, 18 Jul 2008, 3:28 PM ED

A forensics team is searching the backyard of the home where 2-year-old Caylee Anthony lived for clues into her disappearance. This is day four of the investigation.

The girl and her mother, Casey Anthony, lived with the girl's grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Friday morning, a forensics team has been using rods placed in the ground to see if there is anything under the dirt.

The police chief announced that investigators have found abnormalities in the dirt, but would not elaborate on what was found. Cadaver dogs have been brought in to aid in the investigation.

Six to 10 deputies continue to search the backyard area. Meanwhile, two more remain outside the Anthony's home, patrolling the area to make sure the potential crime scene is not compromised.

Police have not released any information about whether their search has resulted in any leads. They do say the girl's grandparents remain cooperative.

According to Caylee's mother Casey, the little girl went missing on June 9, but was not reported missing until five weeks later when her grandmother reported the information to police.

Cindy Anthony decided to call authorities when she had not seen her granddaughter in more than a month, and became suspicious of her daughter's excuses as to why.

On Wednesday night, police arrested the 22-year-old mother, charging her with child neglect, making false statements and obstructing an investigation.

Investigators say Casey told numerous lies which sent police to investigate dead-end leads. She told them that she dropped her daughter off at a babysitter in the Sawgrass Apartments in June and was unable to make contact with the sitter since then.

When investigators went to the apartment complex, the manager said they did not have anyone under the woman's name as ever being a resident there. In addition, the apartment Casey pointed out to detectives proved to have been vacant for months.

Investigators say Casey also lied to them about being employed at Universal Studios. She was fired from there in 2006.

On Thursday morning, Casey went before a judge for her first appearance. He determined that she would be held without bond.

By Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m., forensic team members began searching Cindy and George's backyard. Police said they got a tip from a neighbor that they saw Casey in the yard while her parents were away.

The neighbor told police the little girl's mother borrowed a shovel. Police have since seized the shovel as well as a computer from the neighbor. Casey's car has also been seized as evidence.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is if anyone has seen Caylee and Casey together, or if anyone has seen Caylee Marie Anthony in the company of another since June 9, 2008 please contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 1 800 423-TIPS (8477).

Grandparents' backyard no longer focus of search for Caylee Marie

Orange County sheriff's crime scene investigators use a shovel today to search for clues in the backyard of the home of Caylee Marie Anthony's grandparents.. (RED HUBER, ORLANDO SENTINEL / July 18, 2008)

Crime-scene technicians are no longer digging through Cindy Anthony's backyard this afternoon, after several hours of searching turned up no clues into the disappearance of her 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.

Calls are coming into detectives who are prioritizing which leads to follow up on first, Orange County Sheriff's Sgt. John Allen said at a 12:30 p.m. media briefing. So far, the local CrimeLine tip hotline has garnered about 40 calls since the story broke late Wednesday. The tips continue to steadily come in to the hotline and dispatchers are forwarding the information to detectives, said Barb Bergin, a law enforcement coordinator at CrimeLine.

A neighbor alerted authorities that Caylee's 22-year-old mom Casey Anthony -- who had stayed with her parents on Hopespring Drive -- had borrowed a shovel about a month ago. That's why deputies began searching the backyard and brought in cadaver dogs Thursday night and this morning in hopes of finding anything. Detectives removed a shovel from the neighbor's house.

"It's one of many leads we are following up on," Allen, adding he would no elaborate on those leads.

At this point, there is no evidence that shows Caylee may be dead, Allen said.

Investigators have not spoken to Casey Anthony since her arrest on charges of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.

Casey Anthony's lawyer criticized the Orange County Sheriff's Office efforts to find the girl, saying they should be trying to track down Zenaida Gonzalez - the woman Casey Anthony said was baby sitting her child the day she disappeared last month. The laywer, Jose Baez, suggested that Gonzalez and Caylee could be anywhere from Miami and Gainesville to Charlotte, N.C. or New York City and Brooklyn.

"We have reason to believe the person who was with [Caylee] has ties to those places," Baez said.

Captain Angelo Nieves, sheriff's spokesman, declined to respond to Baez's statement, but said law enforcement is doing all they can both locally and nationally to find the toddler.

While investigators probed the backyard, residents in the south Orange County neighborhood woke up to news crews and media trucks parked along their streets. Casey Anthony and her daughter had lived with her parents at their Lee Vista home until June 9.

Neighbor Diana Centeno, whose children have played with Caylee in the past, said the whole investigation is "just scary" and hopes Casey Anthony - the child's mother - did not have anything to do with the disappearance.

"This is tedious work, and we're going very slow," said sheriff's Sgt. John Allen, who heads the child-abuse and missing-persons squad. At one point, investigators shifted a playhouse from its spot in the yard and looked at the ground beneath it.

Detectives spent Thursday talking with possible witnesses and following up leads, including seizing electronic equipment from the Anthony home.

While deputies searched for Caylee, Casey Anthony did meet with her attorney at the jail.

Now, Cindy Anthony finds solace in her missing granddaughter's bedroom -- a place where she goes to hold on to the girl's favorite teddy bear and pray.

"I've found a lot of peace here the last few days," Cindy Anthony said. "There's an emptiness in my heart because she's not here."

Anyone with information about Caylee can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

Stench In Car May Be Clue In Missing Toddler's Disappearance

POSTED: 4:19 pm EDT July 18, 2008
UPDATED: 6:05 pm EDT July 18, 2008

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The search for Caylee Anthony in her grandparents' backyard turned out to be a dead end Friday, but a strong smell has led investigators to focus on an Orange County parking lot and a car that was found there.

The car was parked in a lot near State Road 50 and Goldenrod Road (see map) for a few days earlier this week. A business owner had it towed and it turned out to be Caylee's grandparents' car, one the toddler's mother drives.

The car or the parking lot might hold the only clues right now. Channel 9 has learned investigators came back to square one again Friday afternoon and searched for possible evidence at the place where Caylee Marie Anthony's mother had, for some reason, abandoned her car earlier this week.

While they didn't find anything at the parking lot, sources told Eyewitness News they might be finding clues in the white, 1998 Pontiac GT that Caylee's mother Casey left in the east Orange County parking lot. Eyewitness News has learned there was a stench in the car, which could indicate evidence of a body, but sources said investigators don't have any more than that to go on and they haven't figured out what the stench was from.

"We get information that comes in that sometimes suggests one thing, sometimes suggests another," Sgt. John Allen said Friday.

Friday morning, investigators brought cadaver dogs in to comb through Caylee's grandparents' backyard (see map) looking for anything that might explain what happened to her, all because a neighbor told them Caylee's mother had borrowed his shovel about a month or so ago, around the time she told investigators Caylee had disappeared.

Caylee's grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, said the shovel was for yard work and said Casey didn't have keys to the family tool shed.

"We have bamboo growing in our backyard. The only way to get rid of it is to use a shovel," Cynthia told Eyewitness News.

One of the dogs seemed to pick up on something, so police thoroughly searched the yard, under a playhouse, in the bushes and found nothing Friday.

"I got sick initially, because you get that thought, what if, but we knew deep inside there can't be anythiing wrong here," said grandfather George Anthony.

"If I have to go out myself, door to door, and look for this child, until the day I die, I will walk every inch of this earth and open every door and knock on every door everyday and I will look in every nook and cranny," Cynthia said.

The pair says they have faith in their daughter and are paying for her attorney.

Investigators, too, remained optimistic Friday.

"We're going to continue working in hopes that we find her alive, we find her alive and safe and sound," Allen said.

Caylee's mother apparently abandoned her car in the parking lot earlier in the week. When Caylee's grandparents found out two or three days later, it was then they also found out Caylee was missing and asked the sheriff's office to investigate. It is unclear, though, why Casey left her car sitting in the parking lot.

Casey Anthony's lawyer has said his client is cooperating with investigators, although investigators say that's not necessarily true. Attorney Jose Baez said Anthony has even volunteered to help investigators develop a composite sketch of the babysitter, with whom she insists she left her daughter with on June 9, the last time Casey saw Caylee. Detectives say the child's father died in a car accident.

Anthony is being held in the Orange County jail in protective custody, which means she doesn't have contact with other inmates. She's being held on a charge of child neglect, a third degree felony. She's also charged with making false official statements, which are misdemeanors. Prosecutors have 33 days to file formal charges.

Friends say Casey Anthony frequented nightclubs and most recently did events planning for a local entertainment company. She was a member of the Travel and Tourism Club when she attended Colonial High School.

Maybe Casey asked to use the computer as well. I'm assuming this is the same neighbor she borrowed the shovel from. I wonder if by "abnormalities" in the dirt they mean that she may've had Caylee buried there and then moved her? Maybe put a chemical on her to make the decomp go quicker? Just speculation on my part.

By Casey having an attorney I'm afraid that will hinder the investigation.

Thanks everyone for all the links that have been posted. I saw this story on NG last night but haven't had the chance to check in today.

Take a look at the video of Casey being brought into the courtroom. As she comes into the room through the doors, look at the expression on her face. IMO it's a smug 'half' smile that says she knows but she's not telling.

I also have a big problem with the grandmother. When NG was asking her questions about Casey last night, she bristled and said something to the affect of "I thought we were here to talk about Caylee, not Casey". That threw a big red flag up for me. Forgive me if it's been posted but, does anyone know where Casey was living after she and Caylee left the parent's house? I wonder if LE knows and if they have done a thorough search of the place?

There is NO WAY that an innocent mother who loved her child would drop that child off at a baby sitter's house and not hear from her again for weeks. WTH? When my son was 5, he went missing for 90 minutes and I was tearing up the country side looking for him. How do you go on living, thinking that someone has taken your child and disappeared?

Casey has told so many lies and led LE on wild goose chases and yet her parents are still protecting her. If it were my grandchild, I would beat the truth out of her if that's what it took. They know, like we all know, that Casey knows what happened to that baby! Caylee may still be alive, but if she is, I honestly believe that Casey has either sold her or given her away because she was tired of being a young single mother. I pray for the safe return of this precious baby that any one of us would have gladly taken to keep her from harm.

:1222423: Good thoughts and prayers are going out for you sweet Caylee.

Why isn't there an Amber Alert out on Caylee?

Yes, Casey's atty. said she has offered to help with a composite sketch of the babysitter. He also said "Casey Anthony's lawyer criticized the Orange County Sheriff's Office efforts to find the girl, saying they should be trying to track down Zenaida Gonzalez - the woman Casey Anthony said was baby sitting her child the day she disappeared last month. The laywer, Jose Baez, suggested that Gonzalez and Caylee could be anywhere from Miami and Gainesville to Charlotte, N.C. or New York City and Brooklyn.

"We have reason to believe the person who was with [Caylee] has ties to those places," Baez said."

If they have reason to believe anything, why aren't they sharing the information if they want Caylee found? BS.

I would say that Casey's parents have chosen protecting Casey over finding Caylee at this point, as sad as that sounds. By hiring an attorney, they've closed police access to her. Why don't they hire a psychiatrist to talk to her? Maybe s/he could get some straight answers. I am certain the police would not object.

An Amber Alert hasn't been issued because this situation doesn't meet the criteria - one being the amount of time that Caylee has been missing compared to when it was reported.

KittyMom

But they've already talked with Zenaida Gonzalez and said she's not involved. What's the point of a composite sketch? Unless now Casey is saying that maybe it wasn't this ZG. At any rate, how can LE trust anything that comes from Casey's mouth?

I just don't understand Casey's parents. I love my children, but, if LE were digging up my backyard and saying that my child's car had a "stench" I'd say to heck with her and focus on finding my grandchild. Unless of course, these parents are trying to stay on Casey's good side to get her to tell them where Caylee is.

I keep thinking of Scott Peterson. It always floored me that Jackie and hubby were blind to the fact that Scott acted the way he did because they treated him as so special and expected others to do the same. The Anthonys seem the same way.

But they've already talked with Zenaida Gonzalez and said she's not involved. What's the point of a composite sketch? Unless now Casey is saying that maybe it wasn't this ZG. At any rate, how can LE trust anything that comes from Casey's mouth?

As for grandmother saying there is a reason for no emotion...I can think of 2...psycho or drugs.

It's absurd-the apartment was empty for month, the atty. is just trying to take the attn. off of Casey by trying to get the police to look for another ZG.:madranting94dp: While he's doing this, Caylee is still missing. :(

Again, if the grandmother has more info about Casey and her odd behavior, why is she playing games?? Why doesn't she just say what the reason is? I'm becoming more skeptical of her by the minute.

The difference is that in this case there is at least a small glimmer of hope that Caylee might still be alive. They can defend Casey all they want once they get her to tell where that child is. Covering for her now is counter-productive in all ways. And it makes me think they either know or are fairly certain that Caylee is dead. :(

Web Sites Give Glimpse Of Arrested Mother's Life, Family Problems
POSTED: 12:23 pm EDT July 17, 2008
UPDATED: 11:40 am EDT July 18, 2008

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Since news of Casey Anthony's arrest broke, Eyewitness News has been working to find out more about the young mother. She has had no prior run-ins with the law, but online social networking websites do offer a glimpse into her life.

Many of Casey Anthony's friends and family maintain online pages and that includes Anthony's own mother, Cynthia. On her MySpace page, she describes intense love for her daughter and the missing granddaughter, but there's also evidence of the problems that crept into their relationship.

As news of Casey's arrest broke, Eyewitness News did some digging and found a number of photos of her out on the town on social networking sites. Little Caylee never appears in any of them.

Friends told Eyewitness News that Casey used several nannies to care for her daughter, but they weren't sure how she got the money to pay for them.

On the MySpace page set up by Cynthia Anthony, Casey's mother and the grandmother of the missing child, she lists her mood as "distraught." In one of her blog postings, she details the sometimes strained relationship she has with Casey.

"What does the mother get for giving her daughter all of these chances? A broken heart. The daughter who stole money, lots of money, leaves without warning and does not let her mother now speak to the baby that her mother raised, fed, clothed, sheltered, paid her medical bills," her blog posting reads.

According to more from that posting, Casey Anthony had also apparently criticized her mother for being too controlling and not giving her enough space.

Many of the online profiles have been closed off from pubic view since news of Caylee's disappearance broke. Casey Anthony's brother took control of his sister's MySpace page and it has been turned into a message board seeking tips about the girl's disappearance.

I disagree.
What sticks with me is that the attorney said he was working on developing a line of communication between Casey and her family. I think it was smart for her parents to hire him. I don't think they care about police access, she's more likely to talk to family than cops. I think a line of communication between Casey and her family will be more productive than open access for the police. A public defender would tell her not to talk to anybody, least of all the police. Casey knows that the attorney can't disclose what she tells him without her permission. Since the parents are paying him and they want Caylee found, he's going to work towards that goal while at the same time protecting Casey. She could very well cop a plea.
No, I think the grandparents are smart and this is strategic on their part. Even defending her could be part of the strategy. If they bash Casey on TV, she's not going to tell them anything. She needs to trust them. I think they are absolutely doing the right thing, maybe the only thing that will get Casey to come clean. There's only one goal right now, finding Caylee. It's much more important than punishing Casey. I don't think the grandparent's are capable of hiding Caylee's death to protect Casey.
However, I think they'll keep whatever promises they might make to Casey in order to coerce her confession, even if it means paying for her defense or visiting her in prison.

Not yet, but I did find this tidbit that Casey apparently wrote:

On one of the MySpace.com pages regarding Caylee, there is a blog, apparently from Casey Anthony, called the Diary of Days, which was posted on July 7. It reads, in part:

"On the worst of worst days, remember the words spoken

Trust no one, Only yourself.

This is odd. "They confirmed that the apartment the defendant mentioned had been vacant for 142 days Dave Turner let me into the apartment and I confirmed it was vacant. They ran several names in their system and found
a Zenaida Gonzalez who had come to look at an apartment on April 17th. She was never a tenant. They gave me a "guest card" completed by Zenaida Gonzalez which contained her cell phone number."

It's from the arrest affidavit. Somehow Casey knew that ZG exists and looked at that apt.

Here are some of the lies that investigators say Casey Marie Anthony told about the disappearance of her daughter Caylee Marie:

Lie: She last saw 2-year-old Caylee on June 9 after leaving her with a baby sitter at an apartment on South Conway Road.

Truth: That apartment had been vacant since Feb. 29.

Lie: Caylee's baby sitter, Zenaida Gonzalez, had been a family friend for four years and cared for Caylee for 18 months.

Truth: Contacted by detectives, a woman named Zenaida Gonzalez told them she never met Anthony or her missing child.

Lie: Anthony investigated Caylee's disappearance for a month instead of calling 911.

Truth: Two of Anthony's boyfriends told detectives she never acted upset or mentioned her daughter's disappearance.

Lie: Anthony claimed she had been so concerned she told two co-workers at Universal Studios her child had disappeared.

Truth: Neither person she named works at Universal.

Lie: She claimed she worked full time at Universal Studios -- the reason she needed a baby sitter.

Truth: Theme-park officials said Thursday that Anthony has never been an employee.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested Anthony, 22, late Wednesday on charges of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation.

"Based on the repetitive lies that the defendant has told, we do not know with whom the child is or even if the child is alive," wrote Cpl. Yuri Melich of the missing-persons unit. "As I received information, and relayed it to the defendant after her arrest, she continued to claim ignorance and, at times, laughed about the situation. She failed to show any outward signs of remorse or concern for her missing two-year-old daughter."

List of area's missing toddlers grows longer

Amy L. Edwards | Sentinel Staff Writer
July 18, 2008

Eleven-month-old Ta'Niyah Leonard went missing almost six years ago.

Trenton Duckett was 2 when he disappeared in August 2006.

Now, 2-year-old Caylee Anthony has joined the list of missing Central Florida toddlers considered endangered.

"There are a lot of missing children, but very few very young missing children," said David Finkelhor, a professor and director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center in New Hampshire. Finkelhor said if a young child has not been taken by a family member -- such as in child-custody disputes -- the cases are often homicides.

About 50,000 children are reported missing in Florida each year. Nationally, the number climbs to more than 750,000.

Ta'Niyah Leonard was reported missing in October 2002. Her mother, Miranda Jones, told police the last time she saw her daughter was when she dropped the girl off at her father's apartment. Ta'Niyah's father, Michael Lewis, told police Jones picked up the infant the next morning, and he has not seen the baby since. Neither parent has been arrested in the case.

Leesburg police investigating Trenton Duckett's disappearance say the toddler's mother, Melinda Duckett, staged an abduction and then killed herself. Duckett remains the primary suspect in her son's disappearance.

Thursday, Trenton's father, Joshua Duckett, visited Caylee Anthony's family to offer his assistance. "I've been through it myself," he said. "There's no reason anybody should be without their 2-year-old."

Caylee Possibly Outside Central Florida
Saturday, 19 Jul 2008

By Melissa DiPane
FOX 35 NEWS

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Could Caylee be in one of four cities outside of central Florida?

Thats what Casey Anthonys attorney, Jose Baez believes. Friday he said based on what Casey told him Caylee could be in Miami, Charlotte N.C., New York City or Brooklyn, New York.

He wouldnt go as far as saying shes been kidnapped but said the person or people who have her could possibly be found in those cities because caylee didnt just leave on her own.

VIDEO: --Mom's Lawyer Speaks

Its been 37 days since anyone has seen little Caylee. One of the few people who might know where she is and who shes with-her mom Casey-- is behind bars.

Baez says that is holding back the investigation.

I think her detention is hampering the search how can the police bounce evidence and leads and leads with her while shes sitting in jail its counter productive, he said.

Baez filed a motion Thursday asking a judge to grant Anthony bond so she can help detectives in the search for her daughter.

With the search reaching critical mass, we wanted to know why Casey didnt tell the truth when investigators asked her for information.

Baez says When all the facts come out it will be a little more understandable as to why where was a delay in time in this case.

Mom Staying Mum On Whereabouts Of Caylee
Friday, July 18, 2008

ORLANDO -- One conflicting story after another has created major obstacles for investigators trying to find Caylee Anthony.

News 13 spoke to University of Central Florida Criminal Justice Professor David Fabianic who said there are other high profile cases involving missing children, and mothers who lied to detectives.

He said there are some telltale signs that could lead investigators to believe Casey Anthony had something to do with the disappearance of her child.

"You have apparent disregard for the disappearance of this child. You have a five week period and she doesn't seem to be very moved by that. And this suggests something called consciousness of guilt," said Fabianic.

Fabianic said Casey Anthony's apparent indifference to the loss of her child could mean one of three things: 1) she is suffering from psychosis, 2) she is in shock over a traumatic event, or 3) she is hiding something.

Right now Anthony is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond, and has been ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

Orange County detectives are working to track down dozens of tips in their search for missing 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony.

Crimeline has been fielding calls since news broke of the toddler's disappearance earlier this week. Family members haven't seen the girl since early June.

On Friday, crime-scene technicians dug for the second day in a row in the backyard of the family's Lee Vista home on Hopespring Drive. Authorities used cadaver dogs but turned up nothing, detectives said.

A neighbor alerted authorities that Caylee's 22-year-old mom, Casey Anthony, had borrowed a shovel about a month ago. Detectives removed a shovel from the neighbor's house.

"We're not giving up that Caylee is still alive," said Sgt. John Allen of the Orange County Sheriff's Office child-abuse unit.

Cindy Anthony said she reported her hazel-eyed granddaughter missing on Tuesday when she learned Caylee had not been seen since June 9.

Detectives have received about 40 tips since Wednesday night, said Barb Bergin, a law-enforcement coordinator at Crimeline.

Allen wouldn't discuss the tips, but said investigators were searching for the girl in more than one place.

Casey Anthony told investigators she dropped her child off with a baby sitter named Zenaida Gonzalez on June 9. When she returned later, they were both gone. So far, investigators have not been able to find the woman who Casey Anthony said last had the girl.

Casey Anthony was arrested Wednesday night on charges of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.

Her attorney, Jose Baez, lambasted the Sheriff's Office on Friday for its efforts to locate Caylee.

"Police really haven't been looking for [Gonzalez]," Baez said. "They've been digging in the grandparents' backyard."

Why is this mother lying, why is she not telling what happend to that precious child. Why did the grandmother let 30 days go by, listening to all the different stories from her daughter. She asked to see caylee, her mom says oh, she's sleeping lets not disturb her. What! For 30 days you see your child but not your grandchild and alarms don't go off in your head.

I watched NG last night, that other woman Mitchell was on. Cant stand her, she didn't give the attorney for Casey any time to answer or fully answer before she cut him off.

I think Casey needs to stop these lies and get her daughter. Could something have accidently happen and she is afraid to tell?

This Zenaida Gonzalez person does not know who Caylee is nor does she know her. The address the authorities went to has been vacant since the end of February.

Frankly I'm very happy about the order for mental eval. Something is definitely not right with this mother. I do not feel for a minute that she is "just" a mother who killed her child. Her very odd (and transparent) lies and her demeanor, plus her background, make me think she has some VERY serious mental issues.

I heard last night that the father of this baby died in a car crash last year. I wonder if they spoke with his family, I'm just thinking out loud and hoping maybe they have her?? I haven't heard they had.

I am very worried about this baby. Especially since they searched that car with the stench coming from it and the car was last driven by Casey.

I'm very worried also. I can't remember a missing child case in a long time that affected me so much. This case is SO bizarre, and that baby is SO beautiful. :frown:

Caylee Search Hits Street

Defense Claims Other Suspects

ORLANDO -- Family members of Caylee Anthony took to the streets Saturday, hoping the public will be able to aid in their search for the missing 2-year-old.

Caylee's grandparents are handing out fliers, hoping anyone will have information on the girl's whereabouts.

The family also released new home video of Caylee reading with her family.

The search for Caylee Anthony continues Friday, just days after learning the 2-year-old had been missing for more than a month.

The focus of the search Thursday turned to the backyard of Caylee's grandparents' home, on Hopespring Drive, where Caylee and her mother lived before the toddler disappeared in June.

Investigators brought out digging equipment and search dogs to home's backyard on Thursday. Detectives also removed items from the home Thursday, and also took a shovel from a neighbor's home.

They suspended their search in the backyard Friday afternoon.

Although they are no longer searching at the home, deputies said their search continues.

"Although we're here and y'all are here, we actually have detectives in other places following up on other leads. So it's important that everybody understand that we want to keep it out there in the public. That if anybody has information about where Caylee is, if they'd contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office," said Sgt. John Allen from Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Caylee's grandparents are being extremely cooperative in the investigation, saying they just want to find Caylee.

Anthony’s Lawyer Says There Are Other Suspects In The Case

Right now questions are being raised as to whether Casey Anthony had anything to do with her daughter's disappearance.

For the first time, we're hearing from Casey Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, who said there are other suspects in the case.

In addition, Baez said he plans to reveal evidence that will exonerate Anthony once they get their time in court.

Meanwhile, a motion was filed Thursday to get her bonded out of jail after a judge denied her first request this week.

He said Anthony has undergone psychological counseling while behind bars, but mental illness is not a factor in her defense.

Baez said Anthony's first priority is finding her daughter, despite some sensationalized media reports.

"She's doing her best to keep it together and to assist in any way she possibly can because now is not the time to lose it,” said Baez. “She needs her composure and her ability to think so it can best help Caylee."

Baez said he is outraged that Anthony is still in jail considering she has not been charged in connection with her daughter's disappearance or harming her in any way.

I was thinking yesterday that Caylee has Casey's last name, not her fathers (unless his is Anthony also). It makes me wonder if the fathers parents even know she exist b/c we haven't heard from them.

You're theory is plausible.

Good Morning all! I have been trying to catch up since yesterday!

I believe Casey did something to that baby. I think that is why she is acting the way she is.. almost mental. I think it is her mind recovering from the shock.

Casey tells everyone about this ZG, but yet the apartment hasn't been rented since Feb.?:shrug1:

What is really strange is the mention yesterday of Casey needing time to bond with Caylee. It sounds to me as if Gma played a huge role in raising Caylee, and that happens alot now days. But why was Gma not more suspicions earlier??:0009:

:francis: This one is driving me crazy.. I want Caylee found.. unharmed!

She claimed Universal Studios.

Casey Anthony told detectives she worked at Universal Studios and identified people who could vouch for her -- another lie. The apartment Casey Anthony identified as the place she left her child with Gonzalez in June has been vacant for five months

You're theory is plausible.

Or it could be simply that they hadn't gotten married.
