Concerned Neighbors Find Cicero Woman Stabbed To Death
POSTED: 6:11 am CDT July 17, 2008

CICERO, Ill. -- Police continue looking for a man Thursday morning wanted for allegedly killing his wife and possibly abducting their baby from her west suburban Cicero home.
Yesenia Villalba-Honorato, 21, of the 5500 block of West 18th Place, was stabbed at her home and pronounced dead at the scene at 8:06 p.m. Wednesday, said the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
As of 4:30 a.m., police continue to search for Villalba-Honorato’s husband, Mario Puente, who is wanted for Villalba-Honorato’s slaying and possibly the abduction of their child, 11-month-old Leslie Puente, said Cicero spokesman Dan Proft.
Puente, 29, of 5517 W. 18th St. in Cicero, is described as a 5 feet 9 inch to 6 feet tall, 185-pound Hispanic man. He may be traveling in a gray or green 1999 Ford Explorer with Illinois plates X143269 or X143266, according to a release from Cicero police.
Cicero police have received information that Puente was near Denver, Colo., Wednesday, the release said.
Town spokesman Dan Proft said the "task at hand right now is working with other law enforcement is to try to track Mr. Puente down and see if he might come in to speak to Cicero police."
Proft said that he doesn't think the baby is in any danger.
"He is a custodial parent," he said of Puente, who he referred to as "a person of interest."
"We have no information or reason to believe the child is in any danger," he said.
Concerned neighbors entered Villalba-Honorato’s home about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday after not having seen or heard from her and found her body in a bathroom with multiple puncture wounds, Proft said. A weapon was also found at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday, the medical examiner’s office said.
An Amber Alert has not been issued as of 4:30 a.m. Thursday, but may be issued later Thursday morning, Proft said.
Anyone who encounters Puente should use extreme caution and contact Cicero police at 708-652-2130.

So far they don't think the baby is endangered would be my guess as to why no AA yet. Now that he's been charged with murder, that may change.

I do hope that child is safe.

Maybe they think to issue Ambert Alerts on the child the man would be spooked and could harm her. I pray he has taken her to someone who will keep her safe.
If this child is harmed this police dept will be severly criticized for not issuing an Amber on the baby.

there was a reason why no amber alert. It was because the child was missing WITH her father. :shrug1: I don't understand this either.
Last anyone seen this guy, he was in Colorado. My guess is he is in Mexico by now. And this poor child is with a man who either saw his wife get murdered or did it himself. Why else would he flee? That poor child......
Why the heck do we have this Amber Alert System in place if you cannot use the dang thing to begin with? Put out the amber alert even if this baby is with her father and ask him questions, and then if everything is ok, release the child back into his care!! :madranting94dp:
Too many dang laws protecting everyone's rights. Umm......JMHO

What an adorable baby. I sure hope they find this man. I can only think of one reason this man is missing. They should have done an amber alert whether he is the one who committed this crime or not.
Prayers to this darling baby and her mothers family. I wonder how long she would have been there if the neighbors had not done a well check on her.
When are these perverts goin to realize that the police will hunt them down and they cannot get away with their deeds.

Woman Slain, Husband And Daughter Missing
CICERO, Ill. (CBS 2) ― Cicero police are searching for an 11-month-old girl and her father, who is considered a "person of interest" in connection with the murder of the girl's mother.
As CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, Yesenia Villalba-Honorato, 21, was found slain in her home at 5517 W. 18th Pl. in Cicero.
Cicero police are looking for Villalba-Honorato's husband, Mario Puente, and their daughter, Leslie. Puente is a "person of interest" in connection with Villalba-Honorato's slaying, Cicero police said.
On Thursday morning, the photographs at the right of this story were released.
Puente is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 185 pounds. He is with Leslie, and might be traveling in a gray or green 1999 Ford Explorer, police said.
The vehicle has an Illinois license plate, either X143269 or X143266, state police said.
Concerned neighbors said they had not seen or heard from Villalba-Honorato in some time and entered the home to check on her about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when they found her body with multiple puncture wounds in a bathroom, Cicero town spokesman Dan Proft said.
Villalba-Honorato was pronounced dead at the scene. Cicero police recovered a knife, which has been sent to evidence technicians for appropriate testing, Proft said.
Cicero police are working with the media and other law enforcement agencies, and hope that Puente will "come in to have a conversation with Cicero police," Proft said.
"We believe there are some questions that he could shed some light on, related to the murder of his wife," Proft said.
No Amber Alert has been issued as of Thursday morning, Proft said.
"Mr. Puente is a custodial parent. He is not a suspect at this point in time; he's just a person of interest," Proft said. "We have no reason to believe the child is in any danger. That's an open question, and it may change as information becomes available, but that's where it stands right now."
Police have received a tip that Puente and his daughter might have been spotted near Denver, Colo., but this is only one tip and is unconfirmed, Proft said.
The public is asked to use extreme caution if they see Puente.

Fugitive returned to U.S. to face murder charges
Thu Aug 27, 2009, 03:41 PM CDT
Cicero, IL -
A Cicero man wanted in connection his wife’s murder last year was arrested by Cicero police Wednesday, after being extradited from Mexico, law enforcement officials announced Thursday.
Mario Puente, 30, formerly of the 5500 block of West 18th Place was wanted by the FBI and Cicero police following his wife’s death in July 2008, according to Chicago FBI officials. Yesenia Villalba-Honorato, 21, was found stabbed to death in a bathtub in the apartment she and Puente shared with their infant daughter, Leslie.
Cicero police immediately named Puente a person of interest in the death but were unable to locate him or his daughter. Police and the FBI worked to locate Puente in Mexico, where he had fled with his daughter.
After an international manhunt, Puente voluntarily turned himself into Mexican authorities in December. On Tuesday, he was extradited back to the U.S. and turned over to FBI officials in Houston. Cicero police took custody of Puente, who was charged with first degree murder Wednesday, according to Cicero officials.
Puente’s daughter, now 2, was unharmed. She remains in Mexico in the custody of the officials there.
