I think it is time for a federal investigation, into the FLDS. I also think current members of the FLDS should testify, I don't know what they would say or if they would say anything at all. I think it shouldn't be one sided, and it seems to be shaping up that way. As always JMO/IMO.

Senate Will Hold Hearing Focusing On FLDS
CBS 7 Staff
July 16, 2008
A senate committee will hold a hearing in Washington, D.C. on alleged crimes involving the FLDS polygamous sect.

ITA. It's past time.
I just wish some of the photos that accompany the FLDS news stories could be of all the cowardly men who've run away and disappeared, leaving the women holding the bag.
Pictures of the FLDS women and children run alongside stories about federal probes and investigations in Texas don't sit right with people. IMO, it looks a whole lot more like religious persecution when the women and kids are featured vs. pics of Jeffs, Willie J., the intimidation crew in Hildale/Colo City, and other MALES of the sect who are the ones actually running the show.

Yes, I would rather see pics other than the women and children as well. Speaking of the men, where did the big wigs go? No Merrill or Wendell, just Willie Jessop the only one quoted in the papers and the only one with his pic being taken.
I would rather see the men taking the brunt of this. I don't think they will though. I don't know that it would matter if they showed up to testify anyway, they generally don't have much to say, as far as I can tell. I read somewhere that Rod Parker said, they were going to stop quietly resisting and start fighting (in a legal sense.) I'm just paraphrasing, can't remember where I read it.

Golly, I felt bad that those two hateful posters ran you off the IS board. I really enjoyed your insightful comments, but I do understand because they were beyond exasperating.
The FLDS have certainly manipulated the media coverage to their best advantage, using Willie and Parker as their mouthpieces. It would be so great if these MIA men could be found and exposed. The general public must understand this is not religious persecution.
Here's hoping that with Reid's investigation and the Tx grand jury, some of their crimes and filth will be exposed.

Senate hearing set to talk about FLDS, polygamy crimes
By Ben Winslow
Deseret News
Published: Thursday, July 17, 2008 11:45 a.m. MDT
Among those invited to testify are Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard and ex-FLDS members. Shurtleff told the Deseret News on Thursday he may not be attending.
FLDS members have not been invited to testify, but planned to show up anyway.
"We've become an easy target because we've been polite," said FLDS member and spokesman Willie Jessop.
Well, contrary to what Willie professes, they have NOT been polite. They've taken every opportunity to bad mouth and lie about anything and everyone. Not to mention his threatening and bullying of the media, women, and children.

Hi Roux,
Thanks for the nice compliment. I actually took a break from both boards (IS and this one) because I was getting to the point of not being able to control my own tongue ... er, I mean, my own typing fingers. (Unlike the FLDS, I take responsibility for my own actions and don't claim persecution, LOL.)
Anyway, I had a nice cooling off period and plan to mind my P's and Q's from here on out!
It's great to see some familiar faces on the FLDS threads here. I've got fingers and toes crossed that something productive comes out of the 7/22 session in Texas.

Willie's a good multi tasker, though -- gotta give him credit for that. He can huff and puff and be righteously indignant, while hosting a persecution pity party, while threatening paybacks and lawsuits, while bullying and intimidating FLDS followers behind the scenes, while appearing before the media in Texas, while supervising his underage construction workers in Colorado City, while being husband and father to who knows how many 'wives' and children, while reassuring Jeffs he's 'on the job,' while jockeying for higher position within the cult.
Impressive, no?:rolleye0001:

I do have to say...when you can't seem to find the rest. Willie is there front and center. He hasn't run and hid under a rock, like some others. What being a spokesmen for the FLDS will do for him in the long run, I surely do not know. It is an interesting twist however, to see one of the men speaking up.
I wonder if he will have anything to say to the media in D.C., or will he be in Schleicher County for the grand jury? Maybe he will still be in Utah, fighting Bruce Wisan and the UEP. Sure seems to be a lot going on in the near future, I wonder how far he can stretch?

lotty ... good point. At least King Willie is around, which is more than can be said for the majority of high ranking male members of the sect. He either has very little to hide, relatively speaking, or he's so cocky he doesn't realize he's exposing himself.
Willie does have a lot on the docket in the near future as the one and only FLDS'er willing to speak out. As for his incentive to be so front-and-center ... who knows. Perhaps Warren had one of his change-on-a-dime special revelations for Willie that says he can ascend to that 3rd level of heaven or whatever by being the sect's spokesperson. Or maybe Jeffs promised Willie another half dozen 'wives' when all this blows over.

Seriously I've thought all along that he must not have too much damaging in his life or they wouldn't have put him front and center. For all his bluster and blather, I would really like to see them sue Texas or have to refute testimony in Reid's hearings or the Grand Jury. Willie Jessop has new role in FLDS church
ABC 4 News/June 6, 2008
By Brent Hunsaker
COLORADO CITY, Arizona (ABC 4 News) - Since authorities raided the FLDS Eldorado, Texas ranch back in April, Willie Jessop has become the official spokesman for the secretive polygamist religion.
You've probably seen him on every channel and network. He is quoted in newspapers around the world.
So who is Willie Jessop? Many assume that he's an ecclesiastical leader or even Warren Jeffs' right hand man, but he is neither. Jessop is Jeffs' bodyguard.
"Willie was always the strong arm," said private investigator Sam Brower. "He was the guy who showed up just to intimidate people."
In his home community along the Utah-Arizona border, he's known as "Big Willie" or "Willie the Enforcer." To those who no longer believe in Warren Jeffs, he is known as "Willie the Thug."
He showed up at trials, including the trial of Warren Jeffs. He showed up in Eldorado following the raid. At first, he remained in the shadows. Then he started to share the microphones with Salt Lake attorney Rod Parker.
It was Jessop who announced that the FLDS church leadership was apparently ready to give up the practice of marrying underage girls, a practice that Jessop had denied any knowledge of the week before.
"The church will counsel families that they will never request nor consent to any underage marriage," said Jessop.
Ross Chatwin is a former FLDS member who grew up with Jessop and faced him down when he was kicked out of the church.
"If they say 'counsel' then they're just playing a game and they plan on continuing with underage marriage," warned Chatwin. "And it really worries me when Willie gets up there and starts saying that 'I don't know of any underage marriages.' That's an absolute lie."
"They will put him up front because he's the type of guy that will say and do anything," said Brower. He said that the real leaders of the polygamist group, Lyle Jeffs, William E. Timpson (a.k.a. Willie Jessop), Wendall Nielson and Merril Jessop, are all in hiding.
Willie has been left to be their voice to the outside world.
"His role is to be out there, keep talking to the public, keep talking to the media, while the real leaders vanish," said Brower

I would not believe a word that any of them say. I am glad that Harry Reid has pushed for the senate committe meeting. I do not think it is going to go very well if any of the FLDS show up. He will not like hearing what UT,AZ. NV or any other state has to say about this group. He will make up another lie to suit his needs.
I look forward tohearing the senate outcome, as well as the outcome of the grand jury in TX. I have thought for a long time that Willie is nothing but a scape goat.
I have to wonder why Warren thought he needed a body guard. Has he made someone mad at him that would want to kill warren jeffs. He is not a very nice guy in my book but who has be so ticked off to want to kill Jeffs?
If Willie thinks he is going to become leader he is sadly mistaken.
These men are cowards in my book to let the women take the brunt of what has happened in TX. These men will get their dues on of these days and they deserve whatever comes down on them

I agree with all of you, that Willie isn't there for the integrity and virtue of the FLDS. I am sure he has plenty to hide.
This is the first time a man has stood up to speak for the FLDS, when they are in hot water. Maybe it is because he is still living in Utah and not YFZ. Maybe Parker suggested that someone be a spokesman. It sure does make things interesting.
When Willie publicly stated, the FLDS would no longer participate in underage marriages, all I could think was, what the hey? Why now? They had been through this many times and never said they would stop. Of course right after that we started hearing about WJ's daughter.
I'm just wondering how big of a hole Willie will be able to dig, before someone FLDS or Parker, tells him to go home and be quiet. For once we actually get to hear one of the men comment and respond, and if he is representing the whole FLDS, he will be quite busy in the very near future.

lotty and grammybears,
I'd like to hear Willie's explanation for the latest information about Teresa Jeffs ... the fact that records were uncovered at YFZ that show without a shadow of a doubt she was 'married' to Raymond Jessop the day after she turned 15 - and her own father officiated at the wedding. Anyone care to bet whether or not she's had a child? I'd bet the house on it.
I'd also like to hear Willie's explanation for the very, VERY young girl (possibly as young as 11) Warren 'married' himself that very same day.
I'm not sure what makes me angrier at this point, the under age 'marriages' which are clear indication of child sexual abuse, or more proof of the constant, non-stop lying by the FLDS. The most perverse sort of behavior, handed down by God - according to Warren Jeffs. It's despicable, IMO.
Jeffs is right where he belongs, for life. And I sure hope the authorities are actively looking for Merril Jessop, Wendall Nielsen, and all the rest of the FLDS hierarchy who have run off to hide to avoid prosecution. They all need to do time, and I don't care what the FLDS'ers want to call it - religious persecution or whatever - as long as they get the message loud and clear that their behavior is illegal and they WILL be held accountable.
Hopefully from that the women will catch a clue that not only are they allowing themselves to be used and abused, but they're dooming their own children to the very same treatment.

Shurtleff, I think would be a good person to hear from. Hatch sits on the Judiciary Committee. I have read bits and pieces over time about him being in that area, something about him going to one of the FLDS church services (IIRC.) I don't know what would happen if Orrin Hatch could or would testify.
IIRC it never seemed like there were many voters from that area, not a lot registered and fewer that actually voted, but the only things I remember reading reports about were local stuff: school board, mayoral, city councilors.

Hi everybody. I know it is late at night but I can't help coming in here and checking on updates. I was hoping we would hear more on what is going on. I think that Willie's ego is so inflated that he thinks he can get away with what he says. I thought it was pretty funny when he came out and said there would be no underage marriages on one hand and on the other hand he denied there was ever any under age unions. He has to be the most laughable person. Now they are saying they are going to attend the senate meetings. I have to wonder if they will be kicked out of the session. Just like he showed up at President Bush's daughters wedding to give him a letter. Does he really believe think these are plausible happenings? How they FLDS think they can threaten anybody who gets in their way just blows me away. They are a group of people who have no regard for the law and will do and say anything to get their way. In a lot of ways this group reminds me of the mafia. I sincerly so hope that the senate committe finally will get involved and do something about this group. The women of this group have been so indoctorated that I believe it would be very hard to take their children and leave this group. They have so many children that it would be scary for me to be on my own, but I am one person who does not allow anybody to tell me what to do. Somehow these women have got to get a backbone and do what is right for their children.
I was just reading an article at cnn.cm thad had an interview betwee Dr Phil and Larry King. Dr Phil says that the children living in these compounds are in emminent danger living with this cult.
I don't think it could be said any more clearly than that. I believe these children are being systematically abused from the moment they are born.
On the issue of Teresa Jeffs, there was an article and I will have to find it again but authorities did say that she is living in an apartment with her two year old child and her mother and sister.
So imo this goes to show that she and this cult lied to authorities about her having been married. She also said she had no children but lives with her child. If my calculations are right then she got pregnent close to the end of her 13th or start of her 14th birthday.
The more I look at things the more disgusted I get with this group.
I was also reading about the trust took over the UEP and it was said that none of the property was to be sold or moved and did they do, they went under the cloud of darkness and removed the feed grains and all other equipment related to their farming and dairy equipment and made them disappear
There is no way that this group respects the law. I am so glad that the latest happening went on in Texas. When there was issue with Utah I cannot remember why they said they would not prosecute in Utah but there is no reason they should have told this group that. I am glad that Utah did have a verifiable case with Elissa wall and was able to move ahead with the charges to get Jeffs found guilty. Now with what is going on in Texas with what they have recovered with the raid I believe they will be able to bring charges against these men who are breaking the laws. If they have to threaten the wives and spiritual wives to bring the men to their knees in justice so be it. I am not usually vindictive or taking such a hard stand but I think it is time the the justice system takes no more self pity for this and makes them play hardball about what has been going on. I know that I and many other people do live within the law and do not do things against the law and sure as I am sitting here if any of us did break a law we would be made to face the punishment.
One more thought and I will shutup for tonight, but I think when someone said the the reason Jeffs may have gotten so sick is because he knew what the DNA's are going to show. He is smart enough to know that with the dna they will be able to match up the children with him being the father. Onllly time will tell but I suspect that this whole organization is going to fall apart pretty soon. Also those men that are missing they will be able to match up their dna with the children. I think that their are older children belonging to these men and all they have to get half and pull it all together.
Well I have said enough. I hope we hear good news in the next couple of days with the grand jury.
Good night everybody

I was over at IS today and got a lot of good informations about the hearing. It was reported that the police right there when Willie got into a yelling match with someone there. Alot of informations that came out was very heart bnreaking about what has gone on with the FLDS, but from what I read it was information that the senate committee needed to hear about this group.
I have read some over at the IS boards and those other two posters have not been there. I don't know but they maybe upset about the indictments brought down. Who knows?
I guess time will tell what will happen. Harry Reid suggested that even though polygamy issues are state issues but brought up the idea that maybe there need to be a federal offenal offense instead of just state.
Hopefully we will hear more and they will be able to bring this group to their knees.

Of course, GGW! Those clean-cut, neatly dressed women and children certainly look pure and innocent. The men running and hiding is so telling - cowards is right. They're tough and assertive when they're telling their women and girls to 'keep sweet' - but when it comes time to justify their actions, they turn tail and run.

This has probably already been said, I'm about 10 days behind here :girl_haha: , but that's Willie's job. Willie the Enforcer is known for the fact that he'll do just about anything - and it appears that means anything. :rolleye0001:
Going up to the mountains shortly to camp. Will be back Sunday.
See everyone then!:happy0207:
GGW - are you up in the mountains again this weekend? I've been lookin' for you. :000a1:

Many of the FLDS men and women who have been kicked out by Warren remain loyal to him, which is beyond me. But I wonder if he isn't worried about some of the men whose kids and wives he reassigned to other men might not come after him. Mr. Knobby Knees looks like he'd either run or faint if you said "boo!" loud enough. :frown:

That is very possible. It is beyond me how these people can put their entire life over to this man. Then to kick men out and just hand their families over to another man is just so ick to me. I am sure Jeffs is worried about these families coming after him and imo they rightfully should. I just cannot even imagine living a life so devoted to one man and living as if they are in the 1800's.
All I can say is Jeffs has and had a lot of nerve to control these people the way he did and probably still does.
These people seem so gullible in a way to me to do the bidding of Jeffs and believing that he is in prison on trumped up charges. They are going to find out one of these days that they have been completely duped by this man.
Does anybody know when or if we will hear something about the senate committee meeting?
I would sure like to know what is going on.

I've been so caught up in the Caylee Anthony case that I forgot about the hearing!!!! :thud2:
GrammyBears - I'm sure that this is going to be very difficult for many, the FLDS way of life is all they know, but I absolutely agree that it needs to be done.
I am sure they will have a hard time. But they chose to follow this guy. Jeffs is going to have to answer to a lot come judgement day. This group may have no choice but to disban and learned the hard lessons of life. Something should have told them that they were being lied to. I feel bad on one hand but on the other hand they chose to live this life style and now they are going to have to deal with it.
I am sure these husbands and fathers are nothing but cowards. But eventually they will be found just like their fearless leader was. They will have their day in court. I am sure Jeffs is sweating bullets now after they got his DNA. I really believe that is why they ended up taking him to the hospital and imagine finding nothing wrong with hilm
