Missing Man's Family Hopes for National Attention
By: CJ Cassidy

CHARLESTON, Mo. - The family of a missing Charleston man says they're hoping to get some national attention.

Tony Woodworth, 36, disappeared nine months ago.

Woodworth's family members say they've contacted John Walsh, the host of "America's Most Wanted." They say producers of the show say they'll look into the possibilities.

That's great news for this family who says they just don't know what else to do.

"I think someone killed him," Tony's sister, Teresa said.

Nine months after Woodworth's mysterious disappearance she and her mom don't know what else to believe.

Annie Black's T-shirt showcases a photograph of her and her son. Tony might be gone, but she says he's never far from her thoughts.

"Something's happened to my son and I know it," she said.

That's why she and her family now hope getting some national attention will bring them some answers.

"I want to know why hasn't these police found my son? If you're somebody like my son, been in trouble with the law, in jail in prison, that's just another person off the street to them," she said.

When I stopped by the Charleston Police station, I was told Chief Robert Hearnes was on vacation.

When I spoke with him last October, Hearnes said he was sending out Woodworth's information to police departments across the country.

"We want them to look for him because he's missing," he said at the time.

Hearnes also said foul play is a possibility but he couldn't track Woodworth because he didn't have a credit card or cell phone.

Back at the Woodworth home, the family huddles together on the front porch, hoping they can someday move past the sadness that surrounds them now.

"We just need closure. Bring him home and let our minds at rest. We get no rest now," Teresa said.

She also says the family spent most of the $2000 they offered before as reward money on their search for her brother.

If you have any information you think might help, please call the police nearest you.

Family Wants Help Finding Missing Man
By: CJ Cassidy

Updated: Oct 30, 2007 07:58 PM

CHARLESTON, Mo. - Three weeks after her son mysteriously disappeared, a local woman hasn't given up hope of finding him.

Tony Woodworth, 35, of Charleston went missing back on October 11th.

His family now has a $2,000 reward up for grabs to try and get information.

So far they've heard plenty of rumors around town, and some of them are pretty ugly, but no one including the police has any idea what happened.

Now, Woodworth's family hopes you came help them bring Tony back home.

"Somebody's done something to my Tony. Somebody's done something bad to him," Annie Black said.

She called her son a real momma's boy. She said he's so close to her; he tattooed the word "mom" on his right arm. He's never stayed away from home without calling her first.

"I have heart trouble. Tony wouldn't do this to me. If he's out here, he knows what was going on he'd come home," she said.

Woodworth's family hopes people going about their business see the posters they've put up. They're tacked up in gas stations, grocery stores, even city hall, and one clerk says it's hard to miss them.

"They're everywhere. Everywhere you go. People say 'Oh there's that dude that's missing,'" Amber Riley said.

Charleston police printed off posters of their own, alerting departments across the country. Chief Robert Hearnes said foul play's a possibility, but they can't track Tony Woodworth because he didn't have a cell phone or credit cards.

Still, Hearnes doesn't want people to think they've given up the search.

"He's had numerous run-ins with the law and we have information he has been a drug user. I don't want that to influence people. We want them to look for him because he's missing," Hearnes said.

Tony Woodworth's mother hopes all this attention and the reward money helps someone remember something.

"Somebody out here knows. If they would just tell us where he's at, I could bring him home," she said wringing her hands.

Woodworth's other family members say at this point just knowing what happened to Tony would bring them some peace.

If you have any information you think might help, call the Charleston Department of Public Safety a call at (573) 683-3737.

CHARLESTON — Police and family members are searching for a Charleston man missing since Oct. 12.

Tony Woodworth, 35, was last seen about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12 walking in Charleston, according to Charleston Department of Public Safety. Woodworth is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on both arms.

“He just disappeared,” said Woodworth’s sister, Teresa Woodworth. “... They say that he’s out there partying, but my brother didn’t go nowhere.”

Woodworth said she last talked to her brother around midnight Oct. 12. Since his disappearance there have been several rumors about her brother’s whereabouts, Woodworth said. One of those is that someone has shot and hidden him, she said.

Annie Black said she last saw her son in the early evening Oct. 11.

“I don’t know anything. All I know is I want my son home,” Black said. Like her daughter, Black doesn’t think her son left town, she said.

“I think something’s happened to my son. My son has never took off like this without calling me,” said a choked up Black.

Before he went missing, Tony Woodworth had had just been released from house arrest, his sister said. “He wouldn’t take off; he loves me and his mom too much,” Teresa Woodworth said. “He’s been in and out of prison all of his life so he wouldn’t leave.”

Woodworth said her brother spent time in prison for burglary.

Meanwhile, family members are putting up fliers throughout the area and are offering a $2,000 reward, Woodworth said.

“We would like the person responsible to come forward and bring him back,” Teresa Woodworth said.

Black said the police have been searching for her son, but they have no leads. She believes there are people in the community who know what happened to her son.

“There’s rumors ... bad ones,” said Black, who began to cry. “...They know where my Tony’s at. It’s so cruel they won’t talk. I just want to bring him home.”

At press time, no further information was available from Charleston DPS. Anyone with information concerning Woodworth is asked to call the Charleston DPS at (573) 683-3737.
