CAYLEE ANTHONY UPDATE #2 July 23, 2007 – 6:00PM


The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to follow up on all tips relating to the Caylee Anthony investigation. All tips are evaluated for their veracity and then, if warranted, prioritized for further investigation. The agency has received hundreds of tips during the course of this ongoing investigation.

Information that Caylee Anthony was send boarding an aircraft at the Orlando International Airport is currently being investigated. Any information generated from this tip deemed credible to the case will be made public at the appropriate time.

Investigators continue to ask anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Caylee Anthony to call Central Florida Crimeline at 1.800.423.8477. Callers with information on this case may remain anonymous.

We have no additional information to offer you on this case today. Any breaking news will be provided immediately as it becomes available.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office conducted a press briefing at 6:00 PM July 24, 2008 where a brief statement addressing some questions that have been posed throughout the day was delivered.
Per Florida State Statute 119, we must satisfy media requests for an inspection of public records. In respect to that law and several media request, we have made the 911 calls pertaining to the Caylee Marie Anthony investigation available to the press.
Both 911 calls have been redacted per F.S.S. 119 requirements and are accessible on our website at http://www.ocso.com. Access to those recordings can be made by clicking on picture of Caylee at the top of our main page. We want to reiterate that the investigation into this incident is ongoing and our direction is for anyone that has information regarding the whereabouts of Caylee to call CRIMELINE 1 800-423-TIPS (8477).
Investigators continue to follow all leads in reference to any sightings of Caylee and will prioritize them based on their credibility. We will continue to release information to the public on those sightings based on the reliability of the tip. The FBI continues to follow-up with out of state leads and FDLE is following up with leads within the state in this endeavor.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to review all evidence in this case and will follow-up on any viable leads. We need and sincerely appreciate you continued support in our ongoing effort to locate Caylee

CAYLEE ANTHONY UPDATE #4 August 4, 2008

Thank you for being here this afternoon the Orange County Sheriff’s Office wants to reiterate that we continue to make ourselves available in an effort to spur anyone that may have information as to the whereabouts of Caylee Marie Anthony to please step forward and make the call that may lead us in the direction of this beautiful child.
There has been much thought regarding any evidence and forensic testing or lab work that is on-going. We will not be able to verify the substance of those items and or the results.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation offered the assistance of their office shortly after the inception of this missing person investigation and we have enlisted their lab for the examination of items as they are gathered and submitted. We will not offer verification on lab items as this may be detrimental to the on-going search for Caylee. Any public discussion of these items will be in accordance to FSS pertaining to Public Records, court proceeding or other venue as has been past and current practice in furtherance of this case.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to interact with the Anthony family in an effort to exhaust any recollection of information that will assist us. They met detectives here again this morning speaking with the lead investigators for several hours. Detectives will continue to review the content of these discussions. Statements regarding a letter have not been verified and detectives are unaware of this document.
The tips that have been received are being dealt with and are prioritized on credibility and quickly dealt out to additional team members for follow-up. As with any case of this magnitude we also receive tips that are unreliable and deal with those accordingly. Detectives have been pulled from other units on an as needed basis to work on any tip, interview or follow-up that is necessary. Suffice to say that no effort will be spared in an attempt to exhaust any investigative method and technique.

Not sure if that is live data and the new charges mentioned today, but I am a legal assistant and I think those were the original "charges" the new "charges" will be just that, new and IMO new bond hearing, new pleadings, new everything. I could be wrong, as I'm not a lawyer nor do I claim to be one, but I think that's the way it is - somebody correct me if you know for a fact I'm wrong.

The investigation into the disappearance of Caylee Anthony continues to be the highest priority for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. As you already know, our primary objective in this investigation is to locate Caylee. The fact that Casey Anthony has bonded out of jail changes nothing in our investigation and our determination to resolve this case. The simple fact of the matter is, people charged with crimes bond out of detention facilities every day. The only constant that has changed in this case is that Casey is no longer incarcerated in the Orange County Jail. Our investigation continues. We will continue to provide you with updates on this case immediately as they become available.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Caylee Anthony is asked to call Central Florida Crimeline at 1.800.423.8477 immediately.

CAYLEE ANTHONY UPDATE #6 August 26, 2008


several inquiries have been received regarding the August 22, 2008 termination of an at-will Orange County Sheriff’s Office employee.

An at-will or probationary employee must meet performance standards as established by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Lying to investigators during the course of any investigation is unacceptable and reason for termination.

Former Deputy Sheriff Anthony Rusciano was contacted and interviewed twice regarding an on-going criminal investigation and provided inaccurate and incomplete responses during those interviews.

Upon being confronted regarding his knowledge of the facts surrounding the issue at hand he admitted to lying to investigators.

We once again confirm that we have received and expect to continue to receive forensic results from evidence in that case from at least two forensic laboratories.

As we have previously stated, because of the sensitivity of this ongoing criminal investigation, we will stay the course and reserve our right to withhold any and all evidentiary details until such details become a matter of public record. We can affirm that every piece of evidence returned on this case is being carefully reviewed by investigators assigned to the case and the Orange/Osceola State Attorney’s Office.

Our primary objective in this ongoing investigation is to locate Caylee Anthony.

Capt. Nieves will be available to discuss this information with you in our downstairs lobby, Central Complex – 2500 West Colonial Drive – until 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM today.

Sheriff Beary donates $5,000 in drug forfeiture money
to assist Texas EquuSearch team

Sheriff Beary will announce a $5,000 donation in forfeited drug money to assist the efforts of Texas EquuSearch, the non-profit search and recovery organization who came to Orange County to assist in the search for Caylee Anthony. The highly specialized, high-tech search and recovery team has been and continues to be an invaluable asset in the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing effort to locate the missing three year old. Volunteers working under the direction of EquuSearch are searching locations considered to be areas of interest by Sheriff’s investigators. While their efforts have not led to the recovery of Caylee they are quickly and efficiently eliminating areas that investigators are interested in.

Employees and volunteer groups associated with the Sheriff’s Office may soon be joining EquuSearch’s search effort as early as tomorrow. Up to 80 alumni from the Sheriff’s Civilian Police Academy will be participating in the search as will a number of civilian agency employees. We have also received word that a number of Loyal Order of the Moose members from the Orlando, Azalea Park, County Line, Kissimmee, Pine Castle, and South Lake County Lodges will provide much needed manpower for the search.

Sheriff’s Investigators have filed additional check fraud and theft charges on Casey Anthony early this afternoon. Two counts of uttering a forged check, two counts of petit theft, and two counts of fraudulent use of personal identification. Volunteers needed for Caylee Anthony Search

The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive invaluable support from the Texas EquuSearch team that has come to Orlando to assist in the agency’s effort to locate Caylee Anthony. The agency continues to receive calls from citizens wanting to assist with this ongoing effort. Texas EquuSearch and the Sheriff’s Office are seeking volunteers to participate in searches for the missing three year old on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (September 5, 6, and 7). Volunteers are asked to meet at the search command center at 6317 TPC Boulevard before 8:30 AM. Volunteers will be given maps of the area and assembled into search teams. The daily searches will continue until dusk/dark.

We also continue to receive calls in reference to the specific nature of evidence recovered during the course of the Caylee Anthony investigation. As has been the policy during the course of this or any ongoing investigation being conducted by this agency, the Sheriff’s Office can not and will not provide details regarding the specific nature of criminal evidence it has recovered or expects to recover during the course of the investigation.

We will endeavor to provide you with the most recent and up to date information on this case immediately as it becomes available. Whatever information in released throughout the course of this investigation will ultimately be posted on the Caylee Anthony portion of the agency’s web site.

CAYLEE ANTHONY UPDATE #12 September 11, 2008


Investigators have not made an additional arrest on the defendant and cannot provide any projection on case developments until it is proper to do so. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office as received multiple inquiries pertaining to the information that was released this morning by the Orange/.Osceola State Attorney’s Office pertaining to the charges that have been levied against Defendant Casey Anthony.

The information charged by the State Attorney is in regards to the economic crimes cases that the defendant was arrested for on 8/29/08 and 9/03/08 respectively. The information charged will speak for itself and we will not be able to respond to their consolidation as this is the purview of the SA. I have included their release as a courtesy for those who may not have it.

The Anthony residence on Hopespring Drive continues to receive media, protestors and curiosity seekers attention at every turn in this investigation. While we recognize an individual’s right to express their views, we want to remind all involved that the residents (parents/children) of this community also have an interest in going about their business with as little disturbance to their daily lives as possible. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office will handle the calls for service with this in mind and we will not disrupt an otherwise legal action unless it is a violation of law. This includes any infractions and violations that are observed at the time of our involvement or reported to us, if appropriate. Sheriff Kevin Beary remains committed with protecting and exercising all proper enforcement efforts to this end.

We are requesting that any reference regarding the location to call in tips be sent to www.cfcrimeline.com where the caller can click on Caylee’s photo and provide the information the caller feels is pertinent. We have made this request previously, but continue to see the telephone number advertised. We are making this request because the telephone lines are receiving calls that are clearly not regarding any viable tips, but are speculative and assisting sleuths who are offering their ideas, and occasionally it is also mistaken for the particular programs call-in line. Anyone wanting to provide monetary assistance can donate to Crimeline.

Charges were filed this morning in the criminal case against defendant Casey Marie Anthony. Additional information regarding court dates will be provided at a later date. Attached are the charging documents.

No calculation has or will be made on potential sentences if these charges result in convictions.

While the State understands the importance of this information to the community, this office does not want to create the type of publicity that would lead to a change of venue. Therefore, we will not comment further on the case itself.

Remember, these charges are only allegations and do not constitute a proof of guilt. Ms. Anthony has the right to a trial by jury and is cloaked with the presumption of innocence.

Until legal discovery is disclosed to the defense, there are no public records.

Tips released

On Tuesday 1700 pages of new evidence that contained over 4200 tips were released. The tips consisted mainly of sightings of Caylee throughout the country called in by psychics. Some ranged from the possible; the toddler is in South Carolina, to the bizarre; that the girl has been cremated.
