That stupid ********* judge. What was he thinking???? NO man would ever regain custody in such a case. We'll be reading about her killing the kids within a year.
I'm so mad I could bite a nail into pieces.

You and me both.
Yeh it's real great for her to get her kids back.....she murdered their daddy. Uh huh.
Stupid judge!
This DISGUSTS me. She isn't FIT to be a mother. She relinquished that privilege when she shot her SLEEPING husband in the back! :madranting94dp:

Hi KittyMom/ Savannah Star
I totally agree with the both of you expressing you comments about' blankety blank judge.:groan:
I remember following this case on then COURT TV,her smooth slick fast talking lawyers and a very stupid jury laid the ground work for all of this.
The prosecution pointed out that her husband was sound asleep, she was not in fear of her life at that moment, she could taken her children to the police or another place and let things 'cool off'
Her oldest daughter testified against her for the prosecution and the defense couldn't shake her.
MW did a mimium 6 months.
The two youngest children will more than likely be told the truth by their older sister, that their mother murdered their father,in cold blood while he was asleep.
Of course when all 3 children are much older, they will be able to read the full account through court transcripts.
Mary Winkler murdered her husband while asleep, she will go her grave with this;and what ever nonsense she tells her children, they will see through it.
Mary Winkler has already destroyed their childhood and their teenage years and possibly their future.
Enjoyed talking to both of you Boscorelli

I also followed the case, as it was from my home state. I just couldn't believe she got a slap on the hand, like she had been charged with reckless driving, not for murdering her husband, as he slept. Boy, I'll bet his parents are livid, even though I read somewhere that they had forgiven her:shrug1:

It wouldn't surprise me if his parents forgave her. But that's not really the point, I don't think. She did murder her children's father, period. That in and of itself makes her an unfit parent, at least in my opinion. Apparently not the judge's opinion though.
I think the bigger issue is the problem of the difference in how male and female offenders are punished, in our present day criminal justice system. And this is only one case out of many where it's so obvious. A father would never ever gotten custody of his children back in the same circumstances. I've seen this time and time and time again.
I feel so sorry for the Winkler girls. :1187603408.CR.Mothe In my opinion, Mary should have gotten LWOP. :madranting94dp:

I wasn't trying to make 'any point,' about the deseased parentf forgiving MW. It's just that I wonder how they could. I know they are christians, maybe that's it. I'm just saying I don't know that I could forgive anyone that killed my son, in cold blood.:shrug1:
I agree she should not have custody.

My fear is for the children. IIRC, Patricia expressed fear of Mary. I also remember reading an expert (Keith Ablow, maybe) that said that in his opinion Mary was a danger to others.

Absolutely.
I'm no fan of Ablow, but I agree it's a definite possibility she could be a danger to those kids at some point in the future.
Better safe than sorry, I say.

If they forgave her, it's undoubtedly because of their Christianity. And I understand that, I understand how and why a Christian can forgive a heinous act. But that forgiveness does not protect the children from future harm. Nor does it negate the need for punishment for one's actions. In this case, murder.

Good Morning Savannah Star
Your post says it all;but let me take it one step further. If MW were truely remorsefull & repentant, she would want her 3 children to have a chance to put this tragedy behind them, grow up and mature into healthy adults.
Since I am not from the STATE of TENN.I am very unfamilar with their civil/domestic laws.
There is a case in FLORIDA 1990??? where a 10 year boy 'divorced his mother' because of her drug habit and WON. THe boy was able to legally change his surname, taking the name of his adoptive parents.
Hopefully the Matthew's parents can regain custody.
Christian forgiveness is not a quick 'ok sure I'll forgive you'
and act as if nothing happened.
The person must change their whole way of life doing a 180 degree turn.MW imo should be in prison, she murdered her husband. There must be RESTITUTION
Matthew's parents can as CHRISTIAN forgive MW for the murder of their son;which is all well and good. MW is the person;but the heinous act of COLD BLOODED MURDER of a man sleeping;can only be forgiven by CHRIST;as I said before if MW were truely repentent.
Between a very stupid jury and a fast talking slick lawyer, got her an EZ PASS card out of prison;but the community in which she lives, her children knows the TRUTH.MW is a MURDERER.
If MW's conscience & subconscience is not 'seered';maybe just maybe the murder of her husband will haunt her,naw at her,rob her of peace every day of her life.
Nice talking to you,as always Boscorelli
This bothered me. I was never completey convinced Mary should not have served more jail time since she did shoot Matthew in the back and left him lying helpless while her children was in the home. I do not know if there was abuse in the home, but if there was Mary had choices other than killing. Now she has custody of the children. I only hope her "ugly" never shows again.

Not me. Didn't surprise me at all. I could tell by the way the jury let her off, bought her lame story and the sympathy of her supporters in the area. How pathetic is that.
I couldn't stand the smirk on her face during the trial. How awful for his parents from beginning to end and doubly so for the poor children to be forced to live with the murderer of their Father. Deadbolted the door and left him dying on the floor, no less. Sickening. One of these days she'll get hers.

That she had other choices is an understatement. True unjustice in this case.
Ugly is what she is inside. That won't change.

Judge Issues Preliminaring Ruling In Winkler Case
Last Update: 8:47 pm
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. (AP) - A West Tennessee judge said Wednesday that the majority of community donations after a Tennessee minister was slain belong to his three children.
But the judge in Huntingdon asked for more information before he makes a final ruling.
Carroll County Chancery Court Judge Ron Harmon commented from the bench following the three-day hearing involving the children's mother, Mary Winkler, and their paternal grandparents, Dan and Diane Winkler.
At issue is what to do with $11,000 remaining in an account.
Mary Winkler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 2006 death of her husband, the son of Dan and Diane Winkler.
More than $226,000 has been collected for the family. Mary Winkler objected to how it's been spent.
