I don't know about the rest of you but I never expected this hearing to last as long or be as involved as it is. I've been trying to go to some of the other sites and read up on it so I'll share what I've found and if anybody else has more, please add it.

Some of these charges were dropped Friday, but it's unclear to me which ones. I think it was 5a and 5b, but I'm not sure.

Lawsuit Information
(http://www.halverson4judge.com/lawsuit/) Three writs here..Pdf format..

File 2 is particularly interesting in that she basically states that she did not specifically name other judges in the same situation about which she is suing because they "...do not seek to uphold the Constitution and are willing to obtain additional salary through any means including an unconstitutional process..."

Is it any wonder she's so popular?

ETA: BTW, these are posted on HER website.

Controversial Races Could Bring Out Voters For Primary (http://www.lasvegasnow.com/global/story.asp?s=8827396)

Sounds like interesting politics out there in Nevada....

".... And while turnout is expected to be down, there are some races that may bring you out to cast your vote.

They are the candidates who make headlines -- a family court judge accused of sexual misconduct with a child. A suspended judge currently under review. And an assemblywoman whose domestic disputes have played out in the media."

"Like the fight for District Court Judge Department 23 -- held by embattled Judge Elizabeth Halverson.

"The publicity surrounding this case and just the negativity surrounding this case, I don't think she can escape that," said Sebelius.

The allegations include falling asleep on the bench, talking to jurors and abusing her staff. "When they see that kind of behavior, I think they see this is somebody we don't want on the bench, and I predict that... they'll throw her out," said Sebelius.

GOP Assemblywoman Francis Allen has also had her troubles, including an arrest for allegedly stabbing her husband, leading up to a nasty divorce.

In a campaign mailer, she blamed her husband for "recent unstable, even volatile, behavior."

To make matters more interesting, he later claimed he stabbed himself. "

"And Family Court Judge Nick Del Vecchio is accused of sexually abusing and harassing his own step daughter. He has denied any wrongdoing, but citizens will have their say in the election booth.

"This is the kind of behavior, the kind of tawdry behavior that voters just recoil from, even here in Las Vegas, where the standards are a little bit looser," said Sebelius."

Here's another article I find interesting. I wonder if Judge Halverson's husband can even vote for her.

Controversial Voters -- Felons -- Eager to Vote (http://www.lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=8827494)

"There are some controversial voters -- felons. Recently a policy change by the Nevada Secretary of State has made it much more difficult for them to regain the right to vote. "

Hearing for Judge Halverson Wraps Up (http://www.lasvegasnow.com/global/story.asp?s=8849824)

"After seven days of testimony, the disciplinary hearings involving Judge Elizabeth Halverson have concluded. On Friday, Judge Halverson finally was able to present her defense. "

Seven days of testimony and still no oral closing arguments for a hearing that was supposed to be completed in FIVE!

"...FINALLY ... able to present her defense." Seemed to me she said everything she had to say in her defense AT LEAST twice!

"Another main witness was a familiar face in local legal circles. Former District Court Judge Don Chairez says he and Halverson went to law school together and he called her and recruited her to come to Las Vegas to be his law clerk when was first elected to the bench.

Chairez says Halverson was an excellent lawyer who worked to raise standards of legal work in the community. "

He also said that Halverson didn't get along with some of the people in his office.

This is a really interesting document.

Judicial Performance Evaluation - 2008 (http://media.lvrj.com/documents/Judicial_Report_2008-CivilCriminal.pdf) This is a PDF document.

I haven't gone back to count but IIRC three of the Justices were NOT recommended for retention.

I'm really sorry, I hadn't seen them over here. I "found" them either for myself with searches or over on the InSession board and wanted to share them. I guess I'll just keep my findings to myself from now on since I always seem to be behind on them.

Bail has been set... $113,000 -- strange amount.

Judge sets bail at $113,000 for Edward Halverson (http://www.examiner.com/r-2111421~Judge_sets_bail_at__113_000_for_Edward_Hal verson.html)

"Edward Lee Halverson, 49, wasn't released from jail and a judge set bail at $113,000 today on domestic violence-related charges after he allegedly beat his wife, Judge Elizabeth Halverson, with a frying pan last week.Judge Douglas Smith set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 25.

Smith said he had no conflicts with Judge Halverson. "I don't know Judge Halverson," Smith said. Edward Halverson will have a public defender appointed. He asked to be released to his cousin, Scott Lewedag, who lives in Las Vegas, but the judge refused based on his prior felony record, including felon in possession of a gun. Smith also banned Halverson from going closer than half a mile from his wife, who has 100 staples closing her wounds." ... more at the link
