Bigfoot Trackers Say They've Got a Body

EXCERPT

Two Northern California men and two Georgians say they've got a body, a photo and DNA evidence pertaining to the elusive forest-dwelling man-ape — and that they'll reveal all at a press conference in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday.

EXCERPT

It’s more than 7-feet tall. Weighs over 500 pounds and walked upright -- three "Bigfoot" seekers, including a Redwood City man, Wednesday claimed they have proof that they have found the body of the elusive creature in the wilds of Georgia.

And on Friday, at a news conference in Palo Alto, they say they will present DNA evidence to prove the carcass of “Rickmat” is that of a bigfoot.

Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, Georgia residents who lead Bigfoot-tracking expeditions, say they found the body of what appears to be a Bigfoot in the woods of northern Georgia and will join local Bigfoot researcher Tom Biscardi at the news conference, according to Robert Barrows, who is publicizing the event.

Among the creatures's other physical characteristics of the body -- according to the hunters website -- http://www.searchingforbigfoot.com/ -- were flat feet similar to human feet. Its footprint is 16 ¾ inches long and the length from palm to tip of the middle finger is 11 ½ inches long.

I would dearly love for there to be Bigfoot's in the world since it would add a little magic to it. A 7 foot tall 500 lb. creature that had evaded capture, or even solid evidence in North America, for hundreds of years would be just wonderful. I'm very skeptical, since according to what I understand they aren't going to actually be showing the body, at their press conference. Until someone comes up with either a corpse or better yet a live one it is going to be very hard for me to believe.

Here's an interesting article about the story from Scientific American.

Bigfoot Experts Skeptical of Body in Freezer
Friday, August 15, 2008
By Paul Wagenseil

Hooray! It's Bigfoot Day!

At 12 noon Friday Pacific Daylight Time, 3 p.m. on the East Coast, renowned Sasquatch seeker Tom Biscardi plans to hold a press conference in Palo Alto, Calif., to divulge photos and DNA samples purportedly pertaining to a dead man-ape found in the Georgia woods.

But even Bigfoot true believers are growing skeptical of Biscardi's claims, especially after seeing the photo of the body, viewable here.

"This body has little to do with Bigfoot and everything to do with a Sasquatch costume that someone developed after watching too many gorilla movies," warns Loren Coleman, who runs the influential Cryptomundo blog devoted to strange and unknown animals. "The teeth that seem to have been placed in the mouth could be my late mother's false teeth."

Matthew Whitton, a Clayton County, Ga., police officer on medical leave after being shot on the job, and Rick Dyer, a former corrections officer, say they shot the seven-foot-seven-inch creature in the forests of northern Georgia in July.

As for the Bigfoot body in the freezer, says Meldrum, "it just looks like a costume with some fake guts thrown on top for effect."

An online Halloween-costume store, TheHorrorDome.com, based in Port Washington, N.Y., sells a full-sized Sasquatch suit that strongly resembles the thawed-out corpse, right down to the height.

"It definitely looks like our costume," owner Jerry Parrino, who's been keeping track of the Bigfoot body story, told FOXNews.com.

Two things stand out about Biscardi's claims: first of all, that he's not going to be presenting a body — and in fact claims to not even know where the body is — and secondly, that the DNA evidence he's promising won't be accompanied by a "chain of custody" that details where it came from and how it got to the lab.

In other words, all he may have is photos — which don't appear to be too convincing.

Does anyone actually think that if someone did get a "bigfoot" that they wouldn't take numerous photos of it, close up shots, etc. and tell about it while they still had a body to tell about? This is a farce.

well that was interesting. cant say I am convinced yet. I will say if this is a hoax they have taken it to far. I dont think you will see "mainstream people" touch this untill it is proven one way or the other.. I for one think it would be great if it is real. but a bit scary. they would have to be smart creatures to have kept away from people all this time.

My take....

the bigfoot people probably have some kind of money behind then or they can get it from a wealthier bigfoot person...

I would have had some quality photos. Laid out nicely and shots from the front and the back. If you had a true bigfoot...wouldn't you take him to a funeral home for safe keeping? Would you throw him in a box of sorts becoming more mis-shapen by the moment? With a hose in it?

I've heard he is thawed or frozen. Geeze..screw a funeral home...I'd call the Smithsonian so they could preserve him properly.

I want to believe it but I don't...

I have to agree with you. They simply aren't handling this like people who have one of the greatest scientific finds in the past couple of hundred years.

I've actually given it some thought the past couple of days after their claim was made public. The only rational thing to do if you found a bigfoot carcus would be to call the police, to get the remains into the hands of forensic experts who would know how to handle the body properly as quickly as possible. Nothing else to my mind makes any real sense.

Good morning. Sorry, but your link didn't work for me. I did watch the press conference yesterday and was impressed with the apparent sincerity of the guys.

As for not posting here, I've been consumed by the Judge Elizabeth Halverson hearing since it started. Since the testimony finished yesterday I may be out and about a little more now... while I wait for the commission's decision.

I certainly didn't mean to ignore you.

You know, guys, I definitely agree that these guys didn't react to their "find" the way I would have, but on the other hand, they had a pretty credible rationale for what they DID do.

As far as calling the police.... I'm not sure that would be my first reaction either. If I found the deceased carcass of a bear, for example, I wouldn't call the police... besides, one of them IS a cop.

Since they claim it was not a "fresh" kill, freezing it was probably not too bad a decision to stop any further deterioration. I certainly wouldn't have any experts phone numbers readily available and I wouldn't want a 500 lb. decomposing critter laying around while I figured out WHO to call and then somehow made them believe I was serious.

I had to laugh out loud (literally) at the thought of driving up to the local funeral home with that critter and explaining I wanted them to handle it for safe keeping... :s1gyahoo: and I'd think it might take some doing to get the Smithsonian to take such a call seriously.

Now, as to pictures.... from the Press Conference yesterday I got the impression that there ARE other pictures available.

Now, all that having been said... am I convinced this isn't a hoax? Not completely, but I'm still trying to have an open mind.

Bigfoot Body Revealed to Be Halloween Costume

EXCERPT

SearchingforBigfoot.com owner Tom Biscardi paid an "undisclosed sum" to Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, the two Georgia men who say they found the body, for their frozen corpse and the privilege of trotting them out in front of TV cameras.

At the same time, Biscardi sent self-described "Sasquatch detective" Steve Kulls back to Georgia to check out the body.

Kulls, it's safe to say, was severely disappointed.

Here's what drives me nuts. I'm not a big believer in cryptozoology, but I do believe that there is some chance of bigfoot existing, somewhere in the United States. Not a large chance but a legitimate chance that it could be true. There are even a few serious scientists open to the possibility, however as long as clowns like these guys keep perpetuating hoaxes, it's going to make it very difficult for people to take the possibility of bigfoot seriously, and conduct honest research to determine whether or not bigfoot exists or not.
