KENT, Ohio -- A Kent man has been missing since 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Brett Preston, 27, disappeared from his home on Hudson Drive. He was wearing a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. He does not have an ID, any money, credit cards or a cell phone.

Friends and family are concerned that Preston may be in physical danger because he was the victim of a head injury, and is on psychiatric drugs.

Preston is also new to the Kent area, and has no friends or family here other than his roommate.

Preston is 6 feet tall and weighs about 165 pounds. His hair and eyes are brown.

If anyone has any information, call Kent Police Department at 330-673-7732.

About me:
About me. Where to start. I am really rather simple. I enjoy things that are delicate and fragile and things that are indestructible and concrete. I like ideas, for instance, how they blossom like flowers but can be crushed like eggshells under the weight of a heavy foot. Or the sound of birds in the morning calling my spirit to life breathing light and life and love into me. I enjoy riddles and rhymes and poetry and prose and silence. I enjoy solitude as much as I enjoy being held. I dislike olives and cabbage and would eat just about anything else under the Great Sun. I am the son of Susan and David Preston. I am proud and confident of the son I have become. About me. How am I not myself?

Brett is missing we need help
Date: 2008-08-13 20:50:24

Our friend Brett, Jeff's Personal Assistant went missing just yesterday. It is horrible and Jeff is very upset. so upset that he cannot use his abilities in any right way.

It sounds very ironic, but it is really happening and Jeff is at his wits end.

Please pray for him and send him love.

Do you know anyone in Kent Ohio, or anyone with bloodhounds or track dogs that could be brought out there?

~ Thank you ~ Thank You so much

This was an email that we received....

A website has been set up to show updates on the case.

We were hoping for the Kent PD to help out, but they have made misplaced
comments about Jeff's personal and professional life and his intentions.
Later they seemed on board, but our last talk with the night shift lieutant
proved our fears were correct. They have stopped the investigation, leaving the
file pending.

RJ
Some details

We just called the Kent PD.

One officer told us that a bloodhound or other track dog was needed, but that
the Kent PD didnt not have that type of Canine Unit.

We have since found various institutions that are ready to give a search dog
equipped for this kind of category. Officer S starts the shift at 3PM. So we
left a message in the morning to let him know the news. And then called him at 3
and a couple times more. He never came back to us.

The officer's lieutenant corrected officer S's statement by alluding
there was a misunderstanding. As he was officer S's supervisor he knew that
that was never said and the do have a K9 but because brett went missing in an
urban area he could be anywhere and all the scents were mixed up and he could
just have gone in any other residence are just walked out of Kent, which he made
sure was the most likely scenario.

I explained that organizations like NOSES, EquuSearch, you name it, need to
invitation from the PD "acting" in the case. He didnt want to have any
of that. And he will not stand in the way of any search dog or search and rescue
team trying to find Brett, but the Kent PD is not involved and officer S had
never insinuated differently.

He encouraged us to call the metro park rangers and other state or county
agencies or private agencies, but we are on our own.

I AM PERPLEXED......and all this after being stalled, because earlier today, in
the early morning this is what happened

Channel 5 reporter calls up the Kent PD to ask if a case was filed. The
dispatcher told him that they could not confirm or deny. Even though we had
called the night before with officer S and with the dispatcher and were
confirmed that the case is open. Also we heard first hand from Jeff that he had
filed the case at 2pm (24 Hour mark).

The poor reporter, Jonathan, had to sit at the station for over an hour and was
given the run around. Ultimately he was told that a case indeed was there, but
no information could be given.

So Channel 5 interviewed Jeff, poor Jeff devastated and the interview aired.

More and more leads for dogs were coming in, and they were asking about the
involvement of the PD. We gave them the name of Lieutenant Administrator Cole
who we were told is the detective on the case, but everyone inquiring got the
voicemail. We later were told it was officer S who is on the case. The officer
that had suggested that the bloodhound would be a perfect help for this, but
that the PD didnt own one.

So we started calling the station where we heard that only officer S can speak
to us,and that he was to come in at 3pm. We stand now corrected. Even though
various people were told that officer O was coming in at 3, we "should
know" that police officers dont work around the clock and that he was off
duty. (we talk 5 or 6pm now, 3 hours into officer S's shift). When I let him
know I knew his shif times, he corrected his statement and made sure that I knew
he had the day off.

ALL our waiting had been in vain.....My opinion -> PD is coming across a
missing person case and they have never done this before. They are trying to
thward it and scare of the people by interrogation technics and personal
comments. When a lawyer calls the office and Jeff's friends start calling
the news and the PD gets calls from the news, they have a little meeting and an
internal "gag-order" by lack of a better term, is issued and only
supervisors and adminstrators are allowed to speak. All is to be hushed up and
channeled up to the chief and just below. The PD is to deny anything without
saying it wasnt said, but rather that there is a misunderstanding. In the
meanwhile the Chief of Police and the media staff are preparing their political
statement and will give one if forced to do so.

We were not really annoyed that much by the rude comments to Jeff and his
person and profession, not so much by being put down by the dispatchers, but
more by the unwillingness of actually acting on this case. The 30 people
department (*i am guessing*) cannot spare one car, one officer to find a missing
person on foot, or even invite officially any search and rescue team......What
is so important that this gets a low priority. I am not listening to the Police
radio, but I have to conclude they gave up and if it was one of their daughters
that went missing hiking, or there son that left the parental residence in an
instable state, they would spare what they could.

I am baffled

thank you
RJ

Body identified as missing Kent man
By Kathy Antoniotti
Beacon Journal staff writer
POSTED: 03:20 p.m. EDT, Aug 18, 2008

KENT: A body recovered from the Cuyahoga River on Saturday is that of a Kent man who was reported missing last week, the Portage County Coroner's Office said today.

Brett Preston, 27, of Hudson Drive, was found after a CXS worker on a passing train spotted his body in the water.

Danny Baker, a family friend, who came to Kent from Tulsa, Okla., on Friday to help in the search for Preston, said the body was near an area where he frequently walked.

Preston's partner, Jeff Baker, reported to Kent police on Tuesday night that Preston had been missing since early that afternoon, Danny Baker said.

Danny Baker and Jeff Baker are not related.

Danny Baker said Jeff Baker was concerned because Preston had left the Hudson Drive home without money, credit cards or a cell phone and was taking medication for a brain injury he suffered in a traffic accident six years ago

Preston and Jeff Baker moved to this area from Colorado six months ago to open The Healing House, a spiritual counseling service, Danny Baker said.

Authorities told friends and relatives, who were gathering in Kent from across the country to mount a search for Preston, that they had a tentative identification of the body ''through his clothing and a pill bottle that had his name on it.''

News releases were sent to the media last week asking for help in locating Preston. Texas EquuSearch was forming a mounted search when the body was located, Danny Baker said.

Portage County Coroner Roger Marcial said there was no evidence of foul play. The body was taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner's office, he said.

An autopsy was to be performed today. Results will be issued in four to six weeks after the completion of toxicology reports, said Gary Guenther, an investigator for the medical examiner's office.
