There is no reason that this dog had to die. The punishment that was handed down was too weak, imo. It breaks my heart that he died, especially the way that it happened when it all could have been prevented.

The $250+ fine sounds insulting, however, his removal from the K-9 unit and the associated $10,000 a year pay cut sounds pretty darn good to me. :zm10:

This makes me sick - HOW does somebody leave a dog, especially such a large dog, in a car? Ach.

I tell ya....I didn't re-read all of this article, but I've been keeping up with this story. There is NO excuse for what he did. K9s are police officers. This guy let his partner die. It would be like handcuffing a human partner and locking the doors to where he couldn't get out during the summer in the high 90's and leaving him in there for a few hours. He should have been charged with murder. If a civilian had of shot the dog, while the dog was on duty, the civilian would have been charged with murder, not an animal offense. Same should have been true in this case.

And Mary you are right, these amazing animals are much like a shepherd. He would have or should have known his dog wasn't with him. That isn't something you forget!!!

Can ya tell I'm still pissed off? ughhhhh

Rightfully so. Even when I take one of my dogs to the vet, I can barely get out my door before they're on top of me, trying to get out ahead of me.

No excuse. None. Zero. Zip.

Even if his dog was in the back seat, which he probably was, that still isn't an excuse. I would imagine, he had Marco in the back and just locked up the car and went inside. Marco probably wouldn't have had a chance to follow him. But I bet he was looking out the window expecting his partner to OPEN THE DOOR AND GET HIM OUT!!!! If he was going to leave him in the car, the car would have been locked with the a/c on....but he didn't do that.

haha.....who said I'd play around with bats?????

I just cannot understand why it would be murder if a civilian killed Marco, but it is just cruelty to animals and a slap on the wrist (which essentially that is what happened) when he kills his own partner. As a police officer, I hold him to a higher standard. I expect him to take care of his partner and not allow something this stupid to happen to him.

I'm totally outraged!!

Most police officers and their partners are more like family. This guy apparently just didn't have any feelings, or any freaking common sense.

I like the $10,000 per year pay cut, but he should have been charged and prosecuted like anyone else, and then kicked off the force forever.

Run free at Rainbow Bridge, Marco. :1222423:

Inexplicable stupidity!!! What??? He forgot!!!? He didn't realize how much time had passed!!!? Maybe he was smoking a joint while he did his chores. Was he tested for drugs? And he wasn't fired. I don't understand.:1187603408.CR.Mothe

This clown is still going to be a police officer? I think I'm gonna be sick. He ought to be spending a couple of years trying to defend his honor in the shower at a state prison, instead he is still going to get to wander the streets with a gun and the ability to arrest people? The world really is insane.

No, it wasn't even that, Gib. He went into the office for 4 hours, I believe it was, and when he came back out, Marco was dead. It was in the 90's and the doors were shut and the windows were up.

There is no excuse for this. If they weren't going to charge him, which they aren't, they certainly should have taken his shield from him!!!

Ugh, that means another police dog was killed by his partner this summer. :( There's never a good excuse, but this is just complete bullsht!

That is exactly what he did.....he killed his partner.

I don't know if he wanted him dead or not, but it is inexcusable!!! Look at parents that leave their children in the car because they "forget" and the child dies. This was his partner, just like any other partner. It was murder of a police officer whether intended or not.
