This is a tough one. I absolutely believe the parents have every right to name their child what they like. OTOH I do feel really bad when I hear some just way out there name. I always worry that the kid will get made fun of. But, in the end it is still the parents right. Friday IMO is not really a bad name. Heck Tuesday has been used for a girls name for a while. What about the fact that some kids have names after months of the year(June-August-April-May).

Or gems, like Diamond, Ruby or Pearl.
I wasn't aware that anyone had anything to say about what name you use for your child.
I too agree Wheezer, this child must live with the ridicule of others who may think his name is silly. Children can be cruel, so I don't know I would want Friday for a name. Heck, that boy may just change it when he gets old enough. :francis:

"Friday" is far from the "silliest" name I've heard in recent years. :girl_haha:
Just check the Birth Notices in your local paper. I'm always struck by those who use a name with missing letters, e.g., K'lee.
Anytime I read about unique names I'm always reminded of a family I knew when I lived in Texas. When I first met them the wife (a beautiful young woman BTW) was expecting her second child, first daughter's name was Tamara (pronounced ta MAR a). When the baby was born her husband insisted on naming her YESTRADA. (I teased him about having her nickname become "Yes" when she got in highschool.) Not long after they had another daughter who was then named TADA. The mother pronounced it TAH dah but he called her Today. Sure enough, yep, another daughter came along and was promptly named Ada (A day) (the mother had her tubes tied while still in the hospital, she told me she didn't want him starting on the days of the week.)

April May, but June will.
My SIL had twins - boy and girl. I said she should have named them Denise and Denephew.

I read about this and there's something I'm not clear about. Did this Italian couple name their child "Friday" or the italian word for Friday - which is "venerdi"? I would think that it's the italian word, which I actually like as a name. People could call him "Ven" for short. It's original but it's not like they named their kid "weasle" or "rat" or something mean. Any name can be mocked.
The Government should really stay out of it, imo.

Also Autumn and Summer are popular names for girls.
I don't see anything wrong with the name Friday. I've seen far worse. And yes, there was an actress named Tuesday Weld a long time ago. I think Tuesday is worse than Friday. Oh and remember Joe Friday? On some TV cops show?

Frankly, a far worse pet peeve of mine is parents who name their children normal names but with VERY abnormal spelling. :71541:That, to me, will be a stigma for them forever. NO ONE will be able to spell their name correctly without being told.
Some examples:
Brittneigh (Brittany)
Jezkah (Jessica)
Lynndah (Linda)
Branddie (Brandy)
Misdee (Misty)
And I could go on and on. You get the picture.
