We have just been advised that as early as tomorrow, IH 10 coming out of Houston will be converted all lanes one way towards San Antonio. This is per our local news stations. Hotels are already filling up North of Houston heading towards Tyler and Dallas. With the possibility of the storm going towards Houston (remote chance), hotels are also beginning to fill up here in San Antonio or rooms reserved.
In Texas, when a storm is coming such as Gustav (and like Katrina), we don't stay around to watch.
I put this up for anyone from the LA and Texas borders. I have no info going the other way.
My prayers are with everyone that may be in the direct line of where this storm may hit.

As of 5 pm yesterday all the hotels & motels here in S. AR were full to capacity. Apparently people are heading further north into AR now, trying to find a place to stay. If nothing else, Katrina and Rita taught more people to get out of harms way before things get bad.
I pray for everyone along the gulf coast. This could be a bad one.

I was just watching a New Orleans press conference. They have a mandatory evacuation of the west bank going on currently. They are expecting this storm to be as bad as, or worse than, Katrina. It has expanded to a 900 mile footprint. It is currently a category 4 hurricane. It could even become category 5.
God bless the humans and animals in the way of this monster storm!

When I was watching our local news about an hr ago, all lanes on IH 10 W towards Houston were being used for evacuation. If this storm hits New Orleans again, I'll just leave it at that. There is so much beach erosion on the coast that the storm will go a long ways inland this time with rain and tornados....more than last.

Just saw a press conference, Gustav may make landfall tomorrow, Monday. Mandantory evacuations ordered for New Orleans, trains and buses ready and this time you can take your pets with you. Council people are going door to door in their districts. Everyone on the coast please evacuate. They are calling Gustav the storm of the Century. Parts of Florida are already receiving damage from the outter bands. Here in North Alabama we had people arriving at hotels yesterday and 3000 guardsmen on standby and I expect the Governor to declare state of Emergency this am. I'm praying for everyone!

Having gone through Dolly earlier this summer, NO is really doing a good job with evacuations. We did not have any evacuation, we chose to go to a hotel with our pets. It is good that NO has made plans for both people and their pets this time around.
Having to evacuate and then be stuck with traffic jams would be very frustrating only to have your precious gas being used to idle and go nowhere for hours.
It would be exciting though to cover a hurricane as a news story.

I'm praying for everyone who's going to be effective by Gustav. It breaks my heart that LA and MS is going to be hit again. I hope everyone here who lives in that area has evacuated. Audie, I'm saying a special prayer for you Dear. I hope you are in a safe place.

I just wish that they would have started those mandatory evacuations on Saturday morning. I hope they have enough time. All roads are clogged going out of NO from both the West and East!
My prayers are with everyone in the path of that storm.

We have had people coming in on buses and driving in to San Antonio since late Friday night to the Port of San Antonio Shelters. We expect at least 5,000 which was about the number or better we had last time. This doesn't include people who may have checked into hotels.

It looks like Gustave has moved alittle more to the west. My family and I have a safe place to go here in Hancock County. We have a storm shelter (we call it a storm pit) in the ground and there will be about 30 of us in it. We stayed in it for Katrina. It's built into a hill, has two small rooms and a bathroom.
So far the weather is nice here....a little breeze and just slightly cloudy. I'm sure that will all be going down hill soon, tho.
Hopefully it won't be too bad but we are still going to stay in the storm pit. You just never know what could happen with these storms and I am not going to take any chances with three kids.
I'll check back with you all as soon as I can!

Gustav Speeds Up, Could Make Landfall Early
NBC News and news services
updated 7 minutes ago
NEW ORLEANS - With a historic evacuation of nearly 2 million people from the Louisiana coast complete, gun-toting police and National Guardsmen stood watch as rain started to fall on this city's empty streets Sunday night. Even presidential politics took a back seat as the nation waited to see if Hurricane Gustav would be another Katrina.
The storm was set to crash ashore late Monday morning, testing the three years of planning and rebuilding that followed Katrina's devastating blow to the Gulf Coast. The storm has already killed at least 94 people on its path through the Caribbean.

Anyone who might possibly be affected by this devastating storm, please be careful and safe. You are in my thoughts. :innocent0001:

I just heard on CNN and Fox that water is coming in over the levee at the Industrial Canal. They don't know if any levees have been breach yet. However, the same thing happened with Katrina.

The worst thing that can happen is if it stalls and it is predicted to stall in NE Texas, when Dolly stalled, we were in the center of it for 14 hours without electricity. Electricity can not be restored until winds are below 40-50 mph, they will not risk their crews to go out to work on power, we just had to wait it out. We knew crews were ready but the winds have to come down, at least everyone is evacuated or should be so power is not that big of a deal because those who need electricity have generators.
