The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help finding a 71-year-old Summerville man who may be endangered.
Authorities say Hal Baker Sr. was last seen at his home at 105 Earl St. on Friday. They say they do not suspect foul play at this time, but they're concerned because of his age and because he had been acting in a disoriented manner since he was involved in a recent car wreck.
An incident report says he left items at his home that he would normally take with him.
Baker is described as a white male, about 165 pounds and 5-foot-8-inches tall. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office non-emergency line at (843) 873-5111.

Did he drive a car or just walk away? If he drove, he could be anywhere! Hope he is found safe!

It just breaks my heart when the elderly go missing. Somehow we just don't seem to pay as much attention to them because IMO we still veiw them as "adults" and don't realize that they actually become more vunerable w/age just as our children are vunerable because they become so young. In some cases as they age, their minds regress and they become children all over again and need to be watched just as closely.
I pray this man is found safe.

Missing man found dead

KNIGHTSVILLE - An elderly man missing for nearly four days was found dead Tuesday afternoon on his ex-wife's land next to his Earl Street residence.

The body of Hal Baker, 71, was discovered about 12:45 p.m. in a wooded area of the Scotch Range Road land, which Baker used to own, authorities said. The ex-wife's husband found him, said Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

Baker had been missing since Friday night, when he was last seen at home about 6 p.m.

A police report showed that Baker seemed disoriented after a recent automobile accident, said 1st Sgt. Michael Miller of the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office. He was in poor health and had wandered off in the rural area on two or three prior occasions, Nisbet said.

"It appears to be that he was in a forgetful state, but we're doing a forensic autopsy to rule out any foul play," the coroner said.

He said no wounds could be seen. The medical examination is scheduled for today.
